These locks are beautifully built, colored, balanced, and - when initially purchased - you can expect this lock to function as advertised at least for, maybe, 5 months. Purchasing three of these (to lock 3 different fence gates) I noticed that the less the lock is opened/closed, the longer it is functional ; however, for our one gate that is opened/closed daily, the lock soon failed to open reliably and required infusions of WD40 (or oil) in order to maintain its functionality. Eventually (2 days ago) the lock failed to open at all and (if attached to a gate latch) would need to be removed using bolt cutters in order to gain access. It came in a metallic blue which matched my Wife's VW bug. It was easy to use. You can reset the combination to your own and there is a really good Youtube video link that shows you how to do it,. The combination that came with the lock worked right away. It was simple. It allows someone with a vision problem or memory problem or dexterity problem to use the lock. The lock is hard and much harder than other combination masterlocks. It is great for an elderly person struggling with the fine motor and perfect eyesight you need when opening an old style padlock without your contacts. We tried a fingerprint lock and it did not work . This is much better. It is cheaper than fingerprint locks. Walmart will ship it free to your local store.

I emailed Master Lock about it, and here's what they said:"Thank you for contacting Master Lock, I am sorry to hear you had some issues with your lock. Unfortunately that lock model is not a model that is made for outdoor use, anything that can be used outdoors will say "weather resistant" or "weather tough" on the package. This would not be covered under the warranty so we would not be able to send a replacement. I am very sorry about that. I would recommend looking into a 175 or 1175 lock in the future. This is the second such lock I've purchased. I've had the first lock for several years, on an outside shed, and it has held up, well, and I am happy with it.It is a great convenience to be able to unlock the combination lock without any lighting available.The only down-side that I've noticed is that, from time to time, the lock will simply not open on the first several tries. The lock will eventually open; it is a sign that the lock needs some lubrication, so I spray some WD40 inside, and I'm good-to-go for another year, or so.

While it was in the locked position, I unscrewed three screws in the back. It came apart and now I keep the lock in a plastic bag. A lot of the moving parts are made out of plastic and the body is made out of zinc so the lock, as others have stated, is not durable. This is not "more secure than a standard combination lock" because people tend to own screw drivers and you can use a he'd wrench on the triangular screw heads and a flat head on the middle one. Neither my wife or I could find that combination to open the locks even though it's on the corner of the instructions in plain view. We love these cause when you get older you can't see the little numbers on other locks.
I had purchased 2 of these locks. With the first lock I had trouble changing the lock combination from the factory combination. After changing it, the new combination didnt work nor did the original factory combination work. With the second lock, I successfully changed the combination and noticed it was picky about when it wanted to open. I tried my combination a few more times and it eventually started to bind up. The dial no longer returned to center on its own and it did not reset by pushing the shackle down into the lock like it is supposed to. So now I’m stuck with 2 locks that dont even open. I would be sure to try it before sticking it on something its intended to secure. Waste of money
