Good sturdy cutter guard cover protectionNot so good pointsI found the unit quite heavy compared to my last Bosch one, also quite noisy and as other people have remarked the on off safety switch is a bit fiddly especially when you are not set to it the slightest movement and the cutter stopsTime will tell with reliability but if it’s usual dw quality shouldn’t be an issue

The Makita DTD 171Z with its added features, compliments my Makita drill and works effortlessly inserting and removing screws; much better than the drill. I am still learning the specific uses and abilities of this impact driver, but I am sure that I will master this with continued use..

I bought this impact driver by mistake after thinking my other impact driver had no work light but I have absolutely no regrets. The power and features of this impact driver are awesome - different speeds, torque settings and settings for bolts or metal screws. The variable speed trigger is actually better (in my opinion) than the other impact driver I have.
So far it has performed as promised. I am doing a home renovation at the moment and this Makita has way more grunt that the old one so I've had to read a manual to lean how to use it. Very pleased with its performance.
I can't believe I've battled with my old Makita impact for all these years! They have DEFFENETLY improved from what I've been used to.Having the extra power will take time to get used to, but over all I'm very pleased and glad I've upgraded.

This driver was much smaller than expected, but it does the job. I had some tricky self tappers to put into stainless steel and it worked perfectly. I was expecting to be able to turn off the impact, but that is not the case, although there are plenty of settings to cover most situations.
