I m glad this retired set is back. This set is a great ideas. It inspired me to swap out the ship to something else on day one. Lots of happy procrastination ahead from actual real life things....!!And one very small niggle, was that the monogram on the seal of the bottle was not of the original designer of the set, but the Lego 'redesigner', I felt that was a bit disrespectful.

I purchased this because I was excited to display the finished piece in my living room. It looks fantastic. I like the idea of a ship in a bottle, but find them a bit over the top, decor wise. The Lego version is cool, creative, and an awesome conversation piece! This was my first time building a Lego set. I found that everything was reasonably straightforward and doable, although the transparent bottle construction challenged me a bit. I found it impossible to connect the flat base of the bottle with the round corner pieces, and this made the overall construction of the bottle feel precarious. Not sure if I did something wrong, but in the end I got a fully constructed bottle that seems to be in okay shape. Legos have always been a 5 star product. But to go as far as to make this ship and then put it into a bottle, it is great. My husband has been building wooden and plastic model ships for years. It was disappointing when I heard this was discontinued, but I saw some here on e-bay that weren't crazy priced because unfortunately that is what people do, they jack the price up ridiculously when things are discontinued, something I will never understand, make a few bucks sure but to triple or more the price just not cool. Anyways, this is a great product, my husband enjoyed putting it together. He hasn't decided if he wants to do the light kit you can get for it.

The coolest pieces of the ship by far are the sails, which have a sea serpent crest printed on them (in fact, there are no stickers in this set, a definite boon to all).After completing the Leviathan, it's time to construct the bottle. Being almost entirely comprised of clear pieces, this part can be confusing to some degree; however, the instructions include a handy 1:1 scale "What You Should Have in Front of You" page to help clear things up. When the bottle is half complete the instructions have you pour the water components in, though I would wait until you're ready to assemble the whole thing a few steps later; there are over 250 water pieces and it would be easy to lose a few.The base is just as straight forward as the rest of the model and includes a nice nameplate, printed compass piece, two globes and two very rare purple minifigure head pieces which I have never seen before. If you're looking to add new pieces to your personal LEGO collection, these are must haves.With a pricetag of $69.99 and a piece count of 962, your price-per-piece comes out to a mere 7 cents per piece, which is very good. As such, it's more of a collector's set than anything else, as the lack of minifigures reduce the play value. I'm not complaining, though. When fully assembled the Flagship Leviathan is a wonderfully nostalgic nod to a far simpler and more mysterious era! It is definitely worth the money, and a (Cannon)blast to build!
Received this kit for Christmas with the matching Lego set and decided to build it together. This seemed much easier than when I readjusted the lighting after the model was built, but the instructions are intended for a built model. The set is already more fragile than most, and I struggled with keeping the masts and bottle pieces together while setting up the lights.I wish the provided pieces matched the brown color on the base, instead of black, but it doesn't look bad. Lights are a little too bright and I might modify them in the future. Really happy with how it turned out, just like the pictures. It's a great display piece and I look forward to lighting other sets.

After the ship the bottle is constructed, the base of the bottle has to be my favourite part of the whole build, it's complex but also an entertaining experience.. the walls of the bottle are then built up and midway the ship is placed inside on 4 jumper plates which is very very fiddly and required a fair amount of patience, the 286 trans blue 1x1 water studs are also added at this stage, the neck and cork and the shoulders are then attached to the rest of the bottle and this is the most satisfying part, lastly the stand is made, it is a fairly straightforward build and divided into 5 sections, the middle of the stand which houses the compass which is beautiful and reminds me of the Big Ben clock elements from a couple of years ago.. the front of the stand also has a 2x4 printed plate with the ships name in a classic nautical Rope style then the 4 corners of the stand are made and connect to the rest of the base. The final part is placing 2 decorative globes on the stand at each end and that's the end of the build. It truly is a feast for the eyes this, and it's a bit larger than I first thought to be honest! I know it had to be scaled down and in my opinion I'm glad it has been because at £70 it's an expensive set as it is.. also the fact that this includes some beautiful printed pieces (Wax Seal, ship sails, globes etc) is another welcome sight. Theres also some nice new pieces in the form of 4 4x4 plates with a quarter circle cut out. So there you have it.. it's a beautiful set and as a display piece it is absolutely perfect (this is purely a display set, there's no playset stuff here,, this one is for the AFOLS) It looks even better when displayed with the old fishing store.. only thing really letting it down is its price but a few VIP points can easily fix that problem. Thankyou Lego and a big thankyou to the fan designer for making this beauty a reality, once again reminding me why the ideas range is my favourite.

First of all, I love this set. It is, in my opinion, one of the the best sets Lego Ideas has released. I'm a big fan of "display only" sets because, well, I'm a 40 year old man and I don't play with muh Lego sets, so it's nice to see something so beautiful to display that isn't an architecture set or something my kids are begging me to play with.The instructions are clear and easy to follow and only took about 2 hours to assemble. It is, in my opinion, one of the the best sets Lego Ideas has released. I'm a big fan of "display only" sets because, well, I'm a 40 year old man and I don't play with muh Lego sets, so it's nice to see something so beautiful to display that isn't an architecture set or something my kids are begging me to play with.The instructions are clear and easy to follow and only took about 2 hours to assemble. There was a minor amount of what I call non-traditional building going on (for example, laying bricks in place without them being secure), of which I am not the biggest fan, but because the ship and bottle are not going to be picked up and jostled around I'm not worried about them falling out.I know folks have complained about the bottle design being flimsy, but mine wasn't. Maybe I'm just a better builder, but it held together quite well. I also read complaints about using smaller clear panels which supposedly obscured sight of the ship within. Well, the smaller panels were necessary to accommodate the ship sails which are built as such to fit into the tight dimensions of the bottle. There's a reason for why everything was designed the way it was and nobody, ever, anywhere is going to fail to recognize that the set is clearly a ship in a bottle.Overall, this is a beautiful set and a wonderful conversation piece. I got this set more as a desire to build something versus a desire to build THIS. However, after it's been on my shelf for a while, I've come to realize I'm darned impressed. The stand is a piece of art unto itself, with a movable compass, printed globes (which happen to be mini-earths!), and a well-adorned plaque reading "Leviathan". The bottle is well made, combining some very clever techniques to make a base and symmetrical build. The design of using normal square and rectangular plates on the bottle in order to lock it into the stand is also very clever. The cork is a little extravagant for my tastes, but I think it adds a good flair to the overall build. For me, I have added some candle flames to the cannons to give the impression of them firing, two clip pieces on the side to act as anchors, as well as a sloped piece on the bow to make it look more complete in the front. Overall, I am surprised at how much I have enjoyed this build.
