Lamy Safari Fountain Pen Medium Red

I bought this as a journaling/diary pen after I realized from using a Platinum Preppy that I liked fountain pens. This pen feels great in the hand; it's like writing on air, even with my weird non-tripod grip that I've adapted to it. Writing is actually something I enjoy doing now instead of dreading cramps.The pen's colorway pairs perfectly with Diamine Oxblood ink, if you like matching colors like I do. I recommend using un-posted - the cap has a surprising amount of weight.While I'm adding a variety of tools to my new journaling/planning system, this is the pen that I will use every night to consider the days I leave behind.

A good pen for those who like it dry

I usually enjoy wet nibs and inks when I write, but I've found myself impressed by the fine nib on this lamy. It's absolutely a dry nib, no doubt about it, but dry does not equal scratchy! Coupled with the LAMY black cartridges that I have a gross amount of, the pen actually writes really well.On printer paper, there was some bleed through, but no feathering (atleast to my standards), and this is also terrible printer paper. On FP friendly printer paper I'm sure it would fare much betterPerfect performance on Midori MD paper. I expected it to feel poor with the combined slight tooth of the paper, but it was actually pretty smooth.Tomoe River much the same as the Midori.Overall I recommend this pen to those who enjoy drier writing experiences and a finer nib.

A good sharp writer for cheap paper

I'm extremely new to fountain pens, so I don't have a lot of appropriate paper lying around. As a lefty, and one who wrote with roller balls until recently, I have developed a preference for extra fine pens that dry quickly. Thus, I picked up the extra fine version of this pen to focus on good performance on cheap paper and a writing experience similar to what I was used to.The line is clear and reliable for the most part. It has a nice feedback from the paper, though if you're looking to avoid the feel and sound of scratch on paper that might be a minus for you rather than a plus. Initially it felt oddly light, but I got used to the weight quickly. A great solid pen

Bought mine with a F nib and a converter. It's currently inked with Iroshizuku fuyu-gaki. I have no flow, skip or hard start issues. This is a solid pen and I use it on a daily basis for note taking.I love the color along with the black clip and black nib. It writes smoothly with some feedback and never disappoints. What's also cool about these pens is that it's reasonably inexpensive to replace the nib. The pen is also very easy to maintain and yes you can remove the feed section to thoroughly clean it. For removing the feed watch Brian Goulet's video on how to safely do it.Overall, a great affordable pen that won't disappoint.

An excellent pen with one fatal problem!

This should have been an excellent product.However, this pen has one FATAL issue for me! The triangular grip is a ******, ignorant and ridiculous design. Holding the pen instantly causes pains, discomfort, fatigues and actually pains in my fingers and hands.This design assumes everyone's hands are exactly the same, holding pen exactly the same way. No Lamy, that is not true. Come on, German engineering meant to be the best in the world but this one is failure in my view. Classic Safari Color Gets A Second Chance

The LAMY safari is a classic workhorse pen. The safari I bought in the early 90s is still going strong, and has needed the least maintenance of any of my fountain pens. The style and triangular grip may not be for everyone, but if they work for you, this pen is indispensable. They are equally great for writing and drawing.Terra is my favorite of the recent safari special edition colors, tied with it’s companion Savanna Green. These two colors were not big hits when the safari launched in 1980 and were quickly discontinued in favor of glossy finishes and less earthy colors. Fantastic beginner’s pen

This is my second fountain pen purchase and I must say I absolutely love it. When searching for my first fountain pen, I was originally going to get the LAMY Safari, but after seeing multiple reviews of people saying the tapered grip made it uncomfortable for big handed folk I decided to go with the TWSBI Eco. I’d get hooked on fountain pen writing from there, and then decided to get a LAMY, opting for the Al-Star for looks. As a 6’5 man with very large hands I can say that the idea of the tapered grip being harmful to big hands is a myth, and that these people are likely writing with a death grip and attributing the issue to the pen. New to Fountain Pens - Just buy it.

I was super excited to try this since it would be my first actual fountain pen and it did not disappoint. I've been using this consistently at the office and it hasn't let me down. The previous pens that I have been using would always skip and dry out but this one would write so well as soon as it was uncapped. The lines are pretty smooth and a little scratchy. (I prefer the feeling of the extra fine nib.) The ink that came with the pen wrote well on post its and computer paper with minimal to no bleeding/feathering. (I ended up buying two more lamy inks bc of this.) I do have sweaty hands and the ink does transfer and smudge so it's not bulletproof. You can't go wrong with this pen for the price and anything cheaper just isn't worth it for me.

To Write Again

While I did not excel at cursive, I did not do poorly either.Somewhere it fell by the wayside so I won't place the blame with anything or anyone one but myself. Recently a group of guys I associate myself with mentioned that he had a collection of pens, LAMY and others.
