I purchased this hair dye from my local Cub foods in the beauty/self care section earlier this month in shade # RR04 'Intense Dark Red'. Overall, this is a nice hair color product that is gentle, non abrasive and non drying to my hair, and one that I feel distributed color well and evenly to my hair. The price point is average for a product of this type, so I would consider the price point to be ok though not exceptional for this type of item. It did go e me different results than I had expected when looking at the color pictured on the box; it turned my hair much closer to a medium to deep brown rather than some for of red with hints of brown which had been more what I was anticipating when looking at the color and swatches pictures on the box itself. Overall this is a product I would somewhat, but not fully, recommend to others looking to self dye their hair at home.

This picture was taken a few years ago but I was so surprised to see it work so well and color showed up on my hair without me actually bleaching my hair. I only used 1 box and I could still see some black strands on the inside but I personally liked it and thus, kept it. This due is amazing to turn dark hair to a lighter brown color! Though I also want to note that this particular color (UL61) is super hard to find. They only stock it in 1 store (Walmart) near me out of all the ones I searched at. Also wanted to note that it didn’t make my hair dry or stiff but I also conditioned my hair a lot after dying it so maybe that contributed to the softness of dyed ... I am naturally blonde. My hair gets darker in the autumn and winter but however in the spring and summer it gets lighter. I like to have my color balanced out so I need a product that will work it’s magic. This product comes with easy to read instructions and everything you need to lighten your hair at home. I usually leave on 25-30 minutes. The color last with no fading.

Colorists are not given the respect they deserve; hair coloring is a balance of art and science. My hair started turning gray in my early 20s; I've spent years going to a coloring and experimenting with different colors, including black, various shades of blonde, and everything in between. The last several years I've went with a natural dark brown for convenience and out of necessity (I have had some health issues). Occasionally I will do my hair at home, this has become more frequent do to quarantine mandates. My daughter picked up this brand and helped me apply the color. The smell was intense, I don't think I've ever been more sensitive to a strong chemical odor than I was with this. The application was easy, a bit drippy, but wiped of my skin without tremendous effort; I always protect surfaces in the home. Unfortunately this product did not cover the grays at the root. My hair also feels quite dry and my scalp is a bit irritated. My hair is long, so I always use two boxes. The color at the length is a decent dark brown, but lacks the luster and shine I expected. My hair is healthy looking (as healthy as hair can be considering it is dead). I don't use extensions. I rarely use heat (less than monthly). My hair feels dryer than when I was seeing a colorist for balayage and other more invasive color options. While affordable, I will not repurchase. I've had much more success with other options. #hair #dye #grayhair #darkbrown #realreview #idonotrecommend #homecoloring
I love the L’Oréal Paris Superior preference hair color. I used the black color, which was not listed. I have a few greys, and they were totally colored. The scent is pleasant while you’re coloring your hair, so it doesn’t burn your nose or eyes. My hair comes out shiny and smooth, though I have naturally curly, course textured, long hair. I have to use two boxes to completely cover my hair when I go too long without coloring, but I usually go 6 months or longer. My hair is naturally dark to light brown, with red highlights in the summertime, and the black is a true black with the color on the box similar to the one I received.
I usually never do at home hair dye kits, I always go to the salon. But if I’m super desperate and neeeeeed a quick fix, this is what I get! Directions are super easy and getting everything ready is a breeze. Application is the hardest part, just because it’s hard when you can’t see everything or are doing it alone. It isn’t terribly hard though and the coverage is great. I did panic a little because for the first five minutes it looked a reddish color on my roots, but it went away and darkened like it was supposed to. It smelled really nice and I love the conditioner that comes with it, and is used for weekly treatments. It started to make my head itch towards the very end, but it wasn’t bad and I was actually surprised it didn’t itch way sooner. It also smells ... I used shade 3C cool darkest brown. The ammonia chemical smell was overpowering. Even with ventilation it hurt my eyes. Lots of fumes. The color deposited well and covered grays, however the undertone was a bit off. I specifically got this because it was an anti brass shade, yet my dark brown color looks golden in the light. I was hoping it would have a cool undertone. It especially looks golder on my roots (hot roots) than ends. I recommend adding to ends first then roots as heat from scalp can lift your color too much. My hair felt very dry immediately after use, but after a day or two is back in good condition. I may redye with another ammonia free brands soft black to neutralize the gold tones this one left behind.
I've made many concessions during the pandemic -- safety first! -- including my usual monthly salon visits. Too depressing to let the gray grow in, so I've been coloring myself, generally with L'Oreal. The formula is relatively easy to apply. It doesn't drip. (Not their fault, but I still have trouble with the back of my head.) I really like the conditioner that comes with the dye and my gray is covered nicely. The thing is, medium ash brown is darker than one would think. (I tried a lighter shade, which also had problems.) If I was confident in applying my own highlights, that would likely resolve the problem. All told, I suppose I'll continue for the foreseeable future.
