Installation is as straightforward as one would expect from KitchenAid - it easily fits onto the power hub of any KitchenAid stand mixer. The attachment has been well designed to maintain stability even when the mixer is operating at higher speeds, which is a common concern with many mixer attachments. Performance-wise, the Shave Ice Attachment is a game-changer. It makes perfectly fluffy and fine shave ice akin to that found at professional dessert shops. Whether you are using it for desserts, to chill drinks, or even to present your appetizers in a creative way, this attachment offers fantastic versatility. The speed and consistency at which it shaves ice are impressive, making it a practical and time-saving appliance in the kitchen, especially during the summer months. The Shave Ice Attachment comes with a stainless steel blade, adjustable for different ice textures. This is a thoughtful addition, giving users the flexibility to create either coarser ice for cocktails or finer shave ice for desserts. The blade's durability and performance are commendable, even with frequent use. Also, as the attachment uses the power of the mixer, it might not work as well with older or lower wattage models. Ensure that your mixer has enough power to drive the ice shaving mechanism efficiently. In conclusion, the KitchenAid Shave Ice Attachment is a well-built, high-performing addition to your mixer. It's a must-have for those who love hosting and presenting their guests with restaurant-level dishes and desserts right from the comfort of their home. Despite some minor cleaning inconveniences, the versatility and overall performance of this attachment make it a worthwhile investment.

A Little Bit Of Aloha

Shave Ice, an emblematic staple of a Hawaiian vacation, can be yours with this attachment and is an easy way to trigger those memories. It is surprisingly easy to use and clean and creates the fine shavings of ice needed for making shave ice. A rather large amount of ice goes in to making a single serving and the package comes with containers to make 4. The ice discs can be made in advance but require a 10 minute tempering when unmolded to ensure correct texture. This minor issue is easily overcome with some advance planning; just make a batch or two in advance and leave the discs in a plastic bag in the freezer. Other than making the ice discs, my only issue with the attachment, as with many KitchenAid attachments, is the height. Some type of support is required to raise the receiving vessel in order to prevent the shave ice from spewing all over the counter. Regardless of these issues, it is a terrific addition if you ever have a taste for Shave Ice.

Cold treat from our stand mixer!

I was excited to try this attachment for our KitchenAid. After a few uses I am happy with the product, but there are some features that could be expanded on in the future from KitchenAid. I'll start with the positives. My kids loved shaved ice, and we live in Texas, where its unbearably hot most of the summer. Having an option to make them a cold treat on hot days from the comfort of our home is a huge plus. The ice has two different cutting blades you can use, for different texture. We tried both, and my kids seemed to like the fine setting the most. This product requires you to use their ice molds, which are suitable for about a single serving of shaved ice. It includes 4 molds, which are well made. The issue with this is it recommends 12-24 hours to freeze the ... MoreI was excited to try this attachment for our KitchenAid. The ice has two different cutting blades you can use, for different texture. We tried both, and my kids seemed to like the fine setting the most. This product requires you to use their ice molds, which are suitable for about a single serving of shaved ice. It includes 4 molds, which are well made. The issue with this is it recommends 12-24 hours to freeze the ice. That's a long time to wait for some ice, and with only 4 molds and a family of five it took a little while to have enough ice for everyone to have a good serving size. Since the first use we have started freezing molds, and placing them in bags in the freezer, allowing us to use the molds and have extra ice "pucks". It would be nice if a couple of extra molds were included with the product. You have to use your mixer at the highest setting while shaving ice, so it is a bit noisy, but that's not really a deal breaker for us. This thing is also pretty large, and takes up a lot of room while on the mixer, and also while being stored. So, if your not planning on using it a lot, and you are tight on storage space, this might not be a great option. Overall if you don't mind the space, and the extra time to freeze ice pucks this product does its job well, and I'm sure we will use it many times over the coming summer.

Easy to set up, easy to use

I love shaved ice, and as we get into summer, the idea of getting a shaved ice unit was super compelling. I used to own a shaved ice machine which worked by hand cranking, and was excited to upgrade to this unit.It is fairly easy to use. The shaved ice attachment fits right into a standard kitchen aid mixer. The unit comes with four containers with lids for you to freeze your shaved ice / ice flavouring. It suggests freezing for a few hours, and then allowing the puck / container to to thaw for a few minutes to pop up your frozen flavouring before using. To use, just attach the unit, and put in the disc (fine, coarse), add your frozen puck, flip the dial, and it shaves through your puck quickly and effortlessly.Overall I found the unit easy to use and the ... MoreI love shaved ice, and as we get into summer, the idea of getting a shaved ice unit was super compelling. If there was one drawback, I'd say shaved ice pucks are a bit on the small side. Each puck is a single serving, so you may want to pre-freeze, pop out a number of units if you're using this for entertaining or an event. Overall happy with the unit!

Fantastic quality, no added cost of a motor

Watched a couple Youtube videos to get the swing of the sequence of operations, but it's very intuitive. Just be easy on it and don't force the parts. They click together easily once in the right alignment. Ice puck should be brought up from freezer temperature (which could be 0°F) at room temperature for a few minutes to get a glassy melty surface ready for the blade. The kit comes with (4) molds and one set takes 12+ hours to freeze, so the chore of harvesting every 12 hours is something to keep on top of if prrparing for a large gathering. Each puck lasts about 16 oz. (or one tall glass) of prodessional quality fluffy snow. For roughly $80 + $20 for an extra set of molds, this is a better deal than buying a carnival type machine to take up tons of storage space. ... MoreWatched a couple Youtube videos to get the swing of the sequence of operations, but it's very intuitive. Good for home use produces a finely shaved ice

I think this is a great product for at home use.Pros: creates fine ice for snow cones, works very quickly, convenient and doesn't take a lot of time to make a dessert. It's very easy to clean, and comes with multiple ice freezing containers.Cons: to make a decent sized shaved ice you need to use at least 2 pucks. Initially it is very confusing to put together. The directions and the symbols ok the machine don't quite make sense. More detailed instructions would be nice. The blades are very very sharp and they are not covered. I cut myself taking it apart and putting it away. The ice pucks need to be frozen on a completely flat surface because if they are not frozen totally level you will lose ice.Overall this is a fun machine for home use. Once you get the hang of it usage isn't to hard. This is not a machine I would let children use as the risk of getting seriously cut is high. I wish kitchen aid sold syrups as I made my own and there is a learning curve with that.

ICE ICE BABY!

Incredible accessory add on to my kitchen aid mixer. Our family loves shaved ice when we see it available locally or on vacation. We never thought about having the options of having it at our own home. This device comes with easy to use and care for instructions. It snaps on securely just like the other accessories that kitchen aid has for their mixer. The ice goes in on the top and comes out very smooth below right into a bowl or cup. Considering its only ice and pure water, the cleanup process is very minimal. Safety instructions are also included in the thorough manual. The box itself has clear understanding of the product and its design. Very sleek and modern looking. Start off slow to get used to it. Add your flavors to the shaved ice and ENJOY. Comes with the standard warranty as all kitchen aid products do and considering you need a kitchen aid mixer to use this accessory, you should know that the brand knows how to take care of their customers for customer care, if needed. The quality is superior with this brand and very pleased with the overall product. Can be easily found online market places and some stores locally that you might have to seek prior to going. Makes a great gift for a holiday like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and of course the holiday season. Highly recommend. Great addition to our kitchen. The design is sleek and modern looking. It is not loud at all considering its chopping up ice into smooth shaved ice. Great innovation overall.

Ice and Treats CreatedThis attachment is the bomb! So far, I have used just ice to see the difference between the blades. But I make other treats with juice, tea, and other liquids. If it’s a liquid or semi liquid I have been freezing it and shaving it. My next experiments will be rice pudding, banana (mashed), and apple sauce. As they are freezing now. I'm trying to avoid chemicals and junk, this way I can make my own frozen treats with less worry. If I had kids, they would love it too. It's so fun! If you like frozen treats, you would love this too. Some examples of flavors I have made: Vanilla milk, chocolate milk, peanut butter chocolate milk- PB powder (all with almond milk), various juices like orange juice blends, blueberry juice blend, Matcha latte, Mint ... MoreIce and Treats CreatedThis attachment is the bomb! If you like frozen treats, you would love this too. Some examples of flavors I have made: Vanilla milk, chocolate milk, peanut butter chocolate milk- PB powder (all with almond milk), various juices like orange juice blends, blueberry juice blend, Matcha latte, Mint tea, chocolate mint tea, date shake (blended dates with almond milk), ice- then I put strawberry syrup over it, orange juice blend with almond milk (I hope it will be like a creamsicle), and the thicker experiments I mentioned above.I found that it is easier to mix the flavor concoctions in a glass cup then transfer it to the cup mold. As the cross in the bottom affects stirring. But the cross is needed so it fits on the pusher.BladesI would say that I would use the coarse blade for mixed drinks like margaritas and Mai tais. I like the fine blade for things like juices and teas. However, creations shaved with the fine blade seem to melt quicker than ones made with the coarse blade.I am glad that you can buy additional blades as I may need them in the future. I've been using this attachment at least once a day because it is hot here in Arizona.Cleaning and ObservationsEasy to clean. I hand wash it, but it’s so easy to rinse because it doesn't get too messy. The black pusher- I just wipe it with a moist paper towel and rinse the other clear parts. Then air dry.The cups take the longest to clean especially if you have something sticky like chocolate syrup in it. As sometimes it settles to the bottom during freezing (which is the top of the ice puck). I give them a good scrub with my nylon scrubby soap brush. Then they are clean. Not a big deal. You can get "knock off" cups on amazon and I believe you can buy more from Kitchenaid. So, I now have 8 cups to experiment with different flavors. Thus far, I haven’t made the same flavor twice. The cup molds hold 175 mL of liquid max, which is about 5.5 oz or 11 Tbs/ 33 tsp, which is near to ¾ cup. I haven’t had any issue opening them after freezing. But sometimes the puck takes some extra finessing to get it to release from the cup mold. I haven’t had to put them in warm water yet though. They usually come out just fine from squeezing the sides and placing them on a plate and pressing the bottom. The attachment is semi loud, but it is not nearly as loud as a blender or food processor. But it’s done quick, so it doesn't really matter. So far, my main complaint is the fact I keep getting brain freezes. I’ve had this attachment for about a week, maybe less.As of now I have used this attachment more than the mixer itself. I have a bowl lift mixer btw. I highly recommend this attachment especially if you live somewhere hot and it is late spring and becoming summer. I’m sure kids and pets would love the frozen treats that you create with this attachment like I do. Freeze broth for pets? If I had a pet, I would give them shave ice chicken broth in the summer. So many possibilities!

The perfect gift for summertime entertaining!

Let me start by saying I am a fanatic for shaved ice, slurpees, slushies, ALL OF IT! So this attachment is a must for me.
