Kaweco Special Mechanical Pencil 0.5mm / Brass

The brightness will not last 2 uses, unfortunately. The pencil surface will oxidate quickly.The surface coat is really weak, so it will not resist the natural acidity of your hands.Though the product is well constructed, the chemical engineering of the surface is poor, perhaps of the entire material...A really beautiful product for display if you don't plan to use it!

This a beautiful object, and lovely to hold–substantial, weighty. I'm an artist and it's not meant as a drawing instrument for serious drawers/sketchers though. The eraser is itty-bitty and after six erases, is gone. The only 0.77mm leads I can find are 2B and I'm a 4B user at least. Still, there is much to be said for sheer beauty, at least four stars worth.

You get what you pay for. This is not a cheap pencil, and its construction reflects that. This pencil reflects a lot when new, actually. It's a very striking brass top to bottom (even the cap is shiny brass) and very very well made. The mechanism inside is about as good as a mechanical can get. Enough said there. 5/5, super high quality, though beware it's a tad heavy compared to other pencils out there. For me, the heaviness is preferred for many reasons.Lastly, this pencil is brass. Not coated or painted. IT IS BRASS.It will eventually tarnish and will no longer be mirrored gold brass. The Special Brass is the only Kaweco pencil I would purchase again, but I would definitely purchase it again. Very solid feel. I prefer mine with a natural patina, but if you hope to keep the sheen, a bit of paste wax every so often should do it.

Feels very solid in hand and nice balance. This brass version of Kaweco Special can get a little heavy with prolonged use (say 2+ hours). It's in heavy rotation as one of my desk pencils, although I do use my Special AL more often. My handwriting is noticeably "prettier" when I use this pencil. Love the patina that develops after a few months. On a side note, it does smell a little like brass if that bothers you.

Solid look, solid feel

Solid metal case and mechanics, nice action. To my surprise it has O-Rings on both ends. Maybe it is splash or dust sealed. Short tip and reasonable weight makes me less afraid of dropping it compared to my Rotring 600. Original leads are fantastic for writing, but expensive. Plain brass surface looks easy to repolish if damaged.

Unusual, quality auto 2.0 mm pencil.

Nice weight, slightly lighter than might be expected for the size. There is quite a bit of empty space inside. No separate grip area, you just hold the smooth octagonal barrel. I don't find it too slippery in use. Push action like narrower lead auto pencils or (e.g.) Staedtler 925-25 2mm, not drop clutch lead holders. No eraser, can buy a chromed clip separately if you need it. Raw brass finish will patina with use and time which I like. Tip/knock are slightly darker after a while, so I guess a different brass/bronze alloy. Comes in a nice tin which takes 2 (so could buy the matching ballpoint or a thinner pencil as well).

solid weight. solid feel. great functionality. a bit slipery if youve got sweaty fingers like me. and its fantastic brass doesnt lend itself ot been marred with a pencil grip. but otherwise, its a true delight to write with.
