I didn't have high expectations for the i3 EVO. I have a higher end iRobot vacuum and purchased this one for my upstairs. I wish it were a bit smarter with mapping things out while vacuuming. I had to send it out a couple of times to map the area, then I was able to tell it to avoid certain areas. The i3 EVO was smart enough to not fall down stairs, though it looked like it was going to hurl itself off the top stairs. It was about 1/3rd of the way off before reversing itself the first couple of times. Now it stays on the edge of the top stairs and is smart enough to not get too close. I'm able to control the i3 EVO with both Alexa and Google Home, I don't have issues commanding either assistant to send the vacuum out to individual rooms or the whole upstairs. People wanting a good, first robotic vacuum or a secondary one would be fine with this. It isn't as fancy as iRobot's more expensive models, and I do think it is worth upgrading to get the charging dock/bin combo, but this does the trick and works great with pet hair.

However, the aforementioned chair has lead me to order one of Roomba's way overpriced markers to keep I3 from running under the chair. The WiFi is not really relevant for our situation, as we are retired and count pushing the "Clean" button as exercise. Perhaps WiFi has some utility in setting up a cleaning schedule, but that's not important to us either. Bottom line: The simpler your floor plan, the happier you'll be. If you have more than one goldendoodle, you will probably want the selfcleaning base. If your internet connection involves a hotspot, be prepared to scratch your head and experiment a bit. I think one of the videos addresses this situation, but I still put several hours into the setup, only to discover it wasn't going to do much for us. The Roomba I3 will give you a cleaner house.

I had an older model a friend gave me that was definitely on its way out but enticed me enough to look into a newer model. I love the ability to connect with my phone and I can have it start cleaning while I'm gone, and also can set up a schedule to have it clean certain days of the week. It does a fantastic job picking things up off the hard floor and overall is relatively quiet. I have primarily hard floors throughout my house but the bedrooms have carpet. The master bedroom is the only room that is actively used and needs regular vacuuming. It states that it will also work on carpet (and my vacuum had recently broken, so I thought it would be nice to just get a newer robot vacuum with carpet capabilities) but it really does not do a fantastic job with carpets. So I caught an i3 with canister on woot and decided to replace the older Neato D75 botvac since the sensor had quit. It was delivered and I set it up in the hallway, connected to to wifi and sent it on a cleaning run. It did ok, in 2 rooms but then said it was done and kept passing by the base. I thought it just needed to map the house. I sent it on a mapping run and it did map the entire house (single story, 6 room + hallway). Once again, it failed to find the base after passing by it multiple times. I made sure there was nothing close on either side as well and tried again, same result. If I told it to vacuum in specific rooms it would do just fine, other than being unable find the base. I contacted iRobot and they reviewed the logs, and stated that it appeared it ... It has only returned to the base once out of over 15 cleaning/mapping runs and it only able to dock if I set it facing the base and within 2 inches. Otherwise, it will simply pass by multiple times until it gives up and parks BESIDE the base. Even as I write this, I've sent it on yet another mapping run and while the app says its returning home, the vacuum still appears to be "mapping" a room. If it's complete, it's hard to tell as it keeps running into the side of the base then going several feet the opposite direction. The only reason this deserves the one star I gave it is for the self emptying capability. The attached video cuts off a bit short but at the end, it turns and goes back into the another room, the opposite direction of the base.
Had mine for a couple of years now. Not as pleased as I would have hoped. It does seem to effectively clean the areas covered. However, the "intelligence" of the unit is GREATLY overstated. It constantly gets stuck on the rails of my patio slider doors and can't seem to figure out that maybe it should avoid these. Supports suggestion was to PURCHASE the area avoidance sensors. It sends me a message (on my iPhone) that it's stuck but I get NO audible notification, so unless I am actually looking at my phone I don't know it's stuck. All notifications for the app are enabled on my iPhone. Support said this was a problem with my iPhone yet I get notifications from all other apps. Submitted issue to support and they sent out a new base, but it does the same thing. Have followed cleaning instructions for sensors in the base and the robot but nothing seems to address this issue. While it IS nice to NOT have to manually vacuum, the fact that it takes 5 hours is a disappointment. I can pull out the manual vac and do the job in about 30 minutes. It says it's MAPPING but does not really seem to know where it is at. It just seems to roam randomly around the house until it bumps into things. I expected more.

We decided to spend the extra money as Roomba is the "Gold Standard". When we got the robot, it took about 3.5 hours to map our house, and when looking at the map it seemed fairly accurate. Now, every time we send it out to clean a certain room, it usually ends up lost on its way to the room, or on its way back home. It is constantly getting stuck under the table and chairs, and getting stuck on the ledge of the sliding door. The solution to this is to spend MORE money on a virtual wall? With 100% solid surface floors in my house (wood and tile) plus 2 cats keeping the floors under control meant vacuuming and then microfiber dry mopping every other day. That was only 80-90% effective in controlling the cat hair and litter debris. The Roomba runs only twice a week and the floors look marvelous. The little brush on the side goes around furnitures legs to whisk off cat hair, it goes under my sofa and chairs to seek out any fur clumps that are hiding. It transitions easily from hard wood to throw rugs and over door thresholds between rooms. And the cats are not afraid of it! The sound is just a low gentle hum. I bought this vacuum because my girlfriend got a dog and I have struggled with allergies super bad. Best dog ever, worst shedding ever. Nothing she could do could keep up with it. Absolutely insane amounts of hair, quickly. I was worried about it taking care of the carpets in her apartment, along with the area rugs over the carpet. We have been doing a double run every night for the past 2 weeks and the hair is gone. It has had a few glitches here and there that don't affect operation. But they probably can be solved and are most likely an app issue. The robot cleans those areas, just doesn't show up on the map when it updates when something moves. Did a remap, same thing, but it cleaned the spot it mapped that was formerly blocked off. This thing is a monster ... It gets under the couches insanely well. I don't think I have ever been able to last 2 days in this apartment with the dog, and it's been easy to be here for a week once I got this in here. Basically just clean the rollers out every day because they get tied up with stuff and get a decently good map. Yes, the thing sounds like a jet engine when it vacs itself out, but it's less than 10 seconds. She would run the Dyson way longer than that. Dog doesn't even care that this is running. I have spent 400-500 bucks on random junk motorcycles to build and machining tools that I have eventually built to build other things. This thing is literally the most impressive thing I have ever bought. It's better than any vacuum I have ever seen.Just spent the last hour and a half watching it, waiting for it to f up. Perfectly fine. I really thought I was going to return it and design my own that actually worked because I was mad, but nope. This works. I can't even think how to modify it. That never happens
Roomba was recommended to me years ago by a friend. So I purchased one of 600 series, but the machine did not recognize black or dark as a barier and was bumping on my kitchen furnitures. I put spongy bumpers on it to ensure no damage to my furniture. At that time no wifi was needed to use the machine and I had no problems with a cleaning coverage, Roomba came with a virtual wall, which was helpful. The floor is an open concept L shape with two small walls. All open, but this machine was consistent and was never lost. I purchased i3 machine from Costco and used it yesterday. So here are my observations after one-time use: pros if i3: - better vacuum - recognizes black and white and slows down when approaching a wall. Does not see "thin" black objects, such as legs ... Bumps in them all the time so I have to consider to put sponge-bumpers on it again. - I noticed people are commenting that it is noisy, but all vacuums are noisy, This one is the most quiet of all vacuums. Cons: - Roomba is circling / cleaning mostly around the base and does not go beyond 4 - 5 meters from the base. Starts in a 2 ft around the base, then moves on to another area, goes forward then comes back to around the base and cleans again the same area around the base. Yesterday I noticed it cleaned 10 times same spot (that was clean even before I started vacuuming), and didn't go past these 4-5 meters of the base. So the pattern is : cleans around the base, then moves forward, comes back, cleans again around the base, then goes forward to different area, comes back to the base again, and it was repeated 10 times. - I am not sure how to set up the machine to clean another areas. I probably would have to physically carry Roomba and start a manual cleaning. It it a waste of time and battery to cover the same area 10 times and other areas are not even touched. - I was hoping for full floor coverage. suction than 600 series. Cleans well, comes back for missed things.
