I've owned the Insta360 One R 1 inch edition 360° camera for over eight months, so I can confidently say that it is a fantastic piece of technology that has opened up new possibilities for capturing moments in a unique and immersive way. The first thing that struck me about the Insta360 One R was its compact and portable design, making it easy to take with me wherever I go. The camera is also incredibly easy to use, with intuitive controls and a user-friendly app that allows for easy editing and sharing of content. The footage is sharp and vibrant, and the ability to control the camera remotely means that I can capture footage from angles that would otherwise be impossible. Another feature that I love about the Insta360 One R is its built-in stabilization. This has made a significant difference in the quality of my footage, particularly when capturing fast-moving action or filming while on the move. The camera does an excellent job of smoothing out any shakes or bumps, resulting in incredibly smooth and professional-looking footage. One downside of my camera is its battery life, which can be a bit limiting if you're planning on using it for extended periods. However, the camera comes with a charging case that can top up the battery multiple times, so you can keep shooting without interruption. Overall, I highly recommend the Insta360 One R 360° camera to anyone who wants to capture stunning, immersive footage. With its compact design, easy-to-use controls, and impressive features, it's the perfect choice for anyone looking to take their photography and videography to the next level.

OK, so to qualify this review, let me say I've owned and used extensively several small 360 cameras as well as every generation of GoPro since they took film.I should also say that I returned the Insta360 One R and here's why...Firstly, simply comparing this to the beautiful images and flawless stitching of the One X, this camera is inferior in every way. So if you're looking for a 360 photo camera I'd say this isn't in the running.Secondly, the video again doesn't hold up to the One X... You can debate pixels, sensors and such until the cows come home, but having tested them side-by-side, I wasn't impressed. Now let's talk about build quality... The connections are flimsy, the pieces don't fit together snugly (as in you can see light coming through the other side)... I'd never even consider taking this camera surfing or in water at all without a full dive case.If you're looking for a 360 Action Camera, MAYBE this is for you... but I'd wrap it in a case with lens protectors because left naked you'll get one day of action before you accidentally scratch a lens and that my friends is not a good day.In 2020, the stabilization is as good as it gets, and Insta360's software is fantastic, as is their customer service but for me, this camera fell far from the mark, especially considering all the internet hype leading up to and following its release.

Have already brought this out and used on a chest mount more than a few times already and I absolutely love it! Yes it does get hot over time of being used I believe GoPro does it as well. I've compared this to GoPro's cameras and have decided on this OneR camera due to the fact its reliable to shoot and record. Just make sure you have a fast read & write speed micro SD card. I've had one which is a 256GB Sandisk UHS-I V30 for my drone and switched it over to the OneR makes a huge difference.Batteries I would highly recommend upgrading to the boosted (if you don't care about waterproofing) or buy extra batteries $90 for two extra and fast charger in which I did because it will keep the camera waterproof and my batterybacks will charge my batteries while im using ... Very steady and has its own app for editing before hitting post. Cool thing too is that it all stays in the camera!Microphone can be improved but its not terrible audio surprisingly. I still use an external mic on this but If I forgot to bring my external mic I wouldn't be upset about the audio on board.General things about the camera - Its modular! Its price is still hanging on tight so that means its worth it! Still continues to get major updates and I'm pretty sure any upgraded cameras would be parts if you have the brain and battery or be a big bundle for first timers!

I previously had a GoPro 7 and a GoPro 9. I found them to be frustrating little cameras. They froze, lost footage, and had short battery lives. I also could NEVER get the GoPro app to connect to my cameras even though I followed all the instructions. I will say that I like the Insta360 ONE R 1 Edition but there are several things that keep it from being great. The first part is that you have to use the app to operate it. I really don't like that I have to open up my location and disable my VPN. I also find the app difficult to keep connected to my phone, but at least I was able to connect it. One the good side, I find this camera to be easy to operate and it does not suffer from overheating. I also really like that I can transfer content from the camera to my phone ... The camera is cool but there’s some hidden downsides you don’t expect until going through it like me. My last comment is probably the most critical to this review.Buy one battery length because the cases only fit one size and it sucks to lug an extra case along with needing to swap it over. The extended battery has/had one real case option when I bought mine in the fall of 2020. It is the Ulanzi metal case. For the small batteries you get about half (45 mins one the 360 Camera. The Extended is 1 1/2 hours)The extended battery has two metal tabs that flip out but the mounting spot of the tab feels and looks like a weak point and when mounting the tabs bend inwards when tightening due to the fitment of the female side having too much play.I would suggest roughing ... I went to remove the scratch with a felt too dremmel bit and buffer. I accidentally heated it up to much and cracked the lens when I went pretty slowly, gently, and carefully. They offer no repair service for the 360 camera mod; nor do they offer just a lens for a diy. The replacement is $100 and they must know 80% of the cameras will develop a scratched lens with in a small time frame. Poor judgment on their customer service to have people that are spending a big chunk of money on getting a camera to need to completely replace something over a piece of glass. Imagine it like as if a cracked, or simply scratched, phone screen caused you to have to replace your entire phone at full cost.
By far, one of the coolest cameras I have owned in the action camera market. Just received the product today and got to test it out for a little bit (so will update this review as time goes on), but the one thing I really noticed was the level of stabilization on this camera is insane.Pros:1. Video Quality (5.7k 30fps)2. Flowstate 2.0 Stabilization is amazing3. The number of things you can do with the app is incredibleCons:1. Battery Life is still no more than an hour (but will try different settings to see average battery life)2. When connecting the modular pieces together, there is a bit of gap between the battery and the lens/screen, which I'm sure is fine since there is a seal between the connections, but at first I was worried if water would leak in ... Will update after running some water tests. Just kind of unnerving when first putting the pieces together if I did it correctly3. Screen display is small (which isn't an issue itself), but I have noticed flickering from booting up and sometimes going through the menu (occasional). I'm sure this will be patched eventuallyOverall, yes I recommend this product to those looking for great stabilization and video quality. I have also looked into the One X and Hero Max, and my personal opinion is that the One R is better than the One X in terms of video quality, but the Hero Max has slightly better video quality than the One R. However, in terms of workflow and editing, the app is incredible and easy to use once you get the hang of it. Can't recommend enough. Please let me know your thoughts on the product and if I missed anything, or got anything wrong and needs updating. Thanks for reading!
What a great way of recording travel, adventure, motorcycle videos.. giving a view that is different from the existing adventure cameras. I have found the image quality to be really good with great clarity and colour. The built in stabilization works really well, and when using the 360 camera module it gives your videos the gimbal effect without cropping the video. This is something that you can't get from a standard action camera On a motorbike the video keeps the background scenery level and perfectly stabilized, and shows the bike leaning into corners. If you use the 4K camera then you get the usual view with the bike image 'fixed' but the background tilting when the bike corners. If you use the 4K camera then you get the usual view with the bike image 'fixed' but the background tilting when the bike corners. The 360 camera also doesn't miss a thing because it records in all directions.. what I mean is that if a friend rides beside you then you can direct the 360 camera to take video of him while he is beside you and then follow him as he rides to the front of you (or behind). All while the camera is fixed into one position and you don't need to take your eyes off the road. I highly recommend investing in this camera to record sensational travel and action videos. The quality of the camera is superb, and it makes use of standard GoPro style mounts and fittings. It is also much easier to make videos than what I thought it would be and can be as simple as you need it to be. I also have high praise for Johnny Appleseed. They have been very quick to post.. I ordered late in an afternoon and received the item the following day. That's using priority post but I have ordered general items from others on eBay only to realise that it took them two days to get around to posting the item!! Also, JA has been very competitive compared to pricing elsewhere. So, to get a quality product, efficient and professional delivery and service and to know that you are supporting a healthy Aussie business is a good thing, I reckon.
To qualify/quantify my comments I must say how I use this camera: Mainly I use it for holiday and home movie type of footage, nothing sporty, certainly not professional. I feed or sometimes sync sound from a Zoom H1n audio recorder and very occasionally use built in mics, first two options are way better.Compared to Gopro (most obvious comparison) the image quality has a sufficient edge to justify me buying this camera especially in lower light. The stabilisation is good but has its moments, the gopro seems to have the slightest edge for walking (I try to avoid running). However the extra resolution of the One R one inch module gives a little extra leeway for further stabilisation in Davinci Resolve (also bought from Scan btw). The lens is fixed focus which is ... However the extra resolution of the One R one inch module gives a little extra leeway for further stabilisation in Davinci Resolve (also bought from Scan btw). The lens is fixed focus which is both a pro and a con, pro because there's no hunting, con because its depth of field is slightly limited closest focus is about 50cm, so fuzzy selfies if you don't use a stick, but after that it's pretty much pan focus..One of the big cons with Insta gear is that if you like to use a more professional video editor, in my case Davinci Resolve, in order to utilise "Flowstate stabilisation" you first have to put it through Insta Studio and export as H.264/H.265 or ProRes (take your choice), not a major thing but an extra step in the workflow. It's just an in and out process for me as I record in log, export ungraded and ultrawide then colour grade and distortion correct in Davinci.I use it in combination with Insta360 One X still a great 360 so didn't need the 360 module for the One R, GoPro 8, Osmo Pocket and Panasonic FZ2000. All work well together or individually for my needs and all have their own little niche. I would recommend buying from Scan as delivery was very quick and price competitive, I ordered batteries from Insta as Scan had none at the time I wanted them and they came on the very slowest boat from China, so choose Scan if you want things quickly. As a final note, I gave the product 4 stars as the firmware perhaps still needs a little work, good though it is, please bare in mind however Insta are very diligent about product improvement and put out regular firmware and software updates. I gave value as Average (3 out of 5), this might be me being a bit mean but compared to say M50 with kit zoom or Sony ZV1 both slightly more expensive but a world of difference in versatility and possibly better value for money than this camera which seems a bit steep for what it does, but then it's "horses for courses" as they say, and this one had the edge for what I wanted, which is a simple no fuss "run and gun" setup
I have had a few issues with the Insta360 One R that I know if I were buying it again I'd like to know that I don't think I was able to find prior to my purchase, some are differences in the models available and others are actual shortcomings with the camera.First, I really loved the idea of being able to put this on my Mavic 2 Pro and saw that they have a kit that allows you to do this. I originally sought to purchase directly with Insta360 prior to a trip (that got canceled due to the 'outbreak' on the day we left) but was told that kit/configuration wasn't shipping for 60 days, so I bought this 'Twin Edition' from B&H. I originally sought to purchase directly with Insta360 prior to a trip (that got canceled due to the 'outbreak' on the day we left) but was told that kit/configuration wasn't shipping for 60 days, so I bought this 'Twin Edition' from B&H. What I figured would happen is that I would purchase the cage/attachment for the Mavic at a later date. What I have come to realize is that the camera itself is a different configuration. The 360 lens portion for the drone configuration actually separates and is then attached to their specially crafted mount so that it plugs all together with the One R system. This was not told to me by Insta360 when I spoke with them last month and it took some digging to find out and I think that someone looking at the same thing might be aided in having this info. The shortcomings I have experienced so far have to do with voice commands and bullet time. Perhaps you've seen the videos of people spinning their Inst360's around on the end of a rope or using the sickeningly expensive selfie stick (Or narcisstick, as I've dubbed them). I swore I would never buy or use one of these things but for this purpose it looked like a fun effect to goof around with. I bought their dedicated Bullet Time narcisstick and, while it is a very well made product, the feature does not work for me as advertised and I have spent the past two weeks with the slowest tech support I've ever experienced trying to get it figured out. You're supposed to be able to swing/spin the camera around and create this 'fun' helicoptering effect on video. The camera has a dedicated setting for it and you'd think it would work as their promo videos show. For me, when I do it as the instructions state, the image is constantly flipping. Obviously they have a gyro sensor, much like most action cameras, that senses when the camera is right side up or upside down and will auto flip the image for you. There also appears to be an auto sensing setting in the settings and it produced the same results for me in either on or off. It creates a jarring video of constantly flipping image. The last is the voice commands. I have not been able to get any of the voice commands to work. Again, I've been trying to get an answer from their support but it takes days just for a reply which usually comes back with more questions that then take more days to hear back from (What firmware are you on?).... Days! Obviously I'm on the latest but it takes days after I give them the version number. I have tried over enunciating, though I don't feel like that's my issue. I have let other people try to see if it just didn't like my voice. I have even had text to voice speak the commands and nothing works.Other than that the camera is pretty cool and lots of fun to play with. Nowhere near the resolution or clarity that you get out of a Theta X but for goofing around it performs as expected.
