The iBasso DX170 is a practical all-round music player in a handy pocket format that will please both beginners to Hi-Res music and demanding music lovers. The two Cirrus Logic CS43131 DACs reproduce the sound precisely, rich in detail, finely resolved and with a beautiful transparency. The open Android 11 operating system makes installing and using apps particularly easy. The APKPure app is already installed on the DX170 and downloading and using apps such as Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, Qobuz etc. is quick and easy. Also pre-installed is the user-friendly Mango Player app, which clearly organises and plays music stored on the DX170. The many equaliser settings in the Mango app can be used to fine-tune the sound to individual preferences. Audio files can be stored on the 32GB internal memory. If necessary, the memory can be expanded with a microSD card. In addition to WiFi for using streaming services, the DX170 is also equipped with Bluetooth for wireless music playback to Bluetooth headphones or speakers. The DX170 can also function as a Bluetooth receiver to play music wirelessly. In addition, it can be used as a USB DAC and provide better sound quality on the computer. The menu navigation is very intuitive and the rimless, high-contrast five-inch touchscreen display delights with its excellent resolution and colour fidelity. The easy-to-grip rotary dial on the right side of the DX170 allows precise volume adjustment. The buttons on the side can also be used to pause, play, fast-forward and rewind music without visual contact. The high-quality aluminium housing with the slightly curved back fits perfectly in the hand and has the necessary robustness for daily use on the road.

The ibasso dx170 is a very good quality DAP. The sound is amazing. Streaming music with Amazon was fine but there were some delays in loading up music and images. Slight delays with other apps too due to limited 2gb of ram and cpu. The operating system uses 60% of the ram without other apps open but still worked fine. For an Apple user, this DAP allows the access to APTX and LDAC codecs for Bluetooth connections. Overall, a very good DAP for the price.

After trying the iBasso DX240 and hearing I would need to upgrade the Amp I decided to go with a less costly device. The DX170 delivers a higher quality sound experience than I expected from an entry level DAP.User OS is not great but once you get past the quirks and it’s a an over all great value for the sound, quality of build.Battery is ok. Would have been nice to have had the Mango OS that is on the DX240
It took me a while to take the plunge into the world of the DAP and I love it. I am totally enjoying my purchase of the iBasso DX170. It is very easy to use and sound amazing. I was able to add my songs from my old iPod via the micro SD card. The OS is slower than my iPhone but other than that I have absolutely no complaints. I think this player is a great entry point for a DAP without paying 1000$ or more.HeadAmp customer service was excellent. I will continue to buy from this company.
One of very nice DDAP/DAC, goes better with 4.2 mm to 3.5 mm male female adapter. How ever I also have Tempotec V 6 for me Tempo tec V 6 is stunning which I bought from headfone zone also
I think that this DAC removes entirely some sound ranges in order to appear more clear/clean, thus removing roll-offs; but only by sacrificing essential sounds. Rendering music melodies very tame and unnatural. I have seen many people claiming that this product has a ''natural'' sound, It does not at all. It is extremely synthetic.I do not recommend this product at all in terms of sound. I find it especially tiring to the ear. I tried to tweak the sound in every possible way; still disappointed by the results every time.If you are actually looking for a natural, open, melodic sounding device, I recommend against buying this item.
Good built qualitySound is ok… Shanling has a better sound quality at a lesser price
Awesome DAP! I really loved the warm sound signature of this DAP. The lows and punchy, the mids are clear and the trble just sparkles. It’s now way analytical or too dry. Its perfect for me. I am currently burning in the DAP. It sounds really great out of the box, i thnk it will sound much better after the required burn in time. Overall i am a very happy owner of this DAP.I think i made the right choice!
The title really says it all for the review.this is the 2nd ibasso audio product i own and i just really like their sound and quality of products.as someone who was very skeptical of daps (because our phones do everything), this dap has been my main for listening to music and just music only. i love how everything is just offline!things i like:- builld quality & colour (the blue is just gorg)- buttons & volume knob- android operated- sd card facility- mango player (the built-it music player, it is very very nice)- solid DAC & AMP build- amaze soundstage & just v v fun to listen to music with this- the fact that i can play music by folders & not depend on the default sorting system of the player- battery life -- you can get good battery life (1+ days) but ... MoreThe title really says it all for the review.this is the 2nd ibasso audio product i own and i just really like their sound and quality of products.as someone who was very skeptical of daps (because our phones do everything), this dap has been my main for listening to music and just music only. i love how everything is just offline!things i like:- builld quality & colour (the blue is just gorg)- buttons & volume knob- android operated- sd card facility- mango player (the built-it music player, it is very very nice)- solid DAC & AMP build- amaze soundstage & just v v fun to listen to music with this- the fact that i can play music by folders & not depend on the default sorting system of the player- battery life -- you can get good battery life (1+ days) but you REALLY have to playaround with the settings and offload/disable all apps. since i only have offline music in my DAP, i get good battery life. Before, when i tried wifi streaming my music, the DAP barely lasted.- the in-box type-a to type-c cable is solid! i love the length and the buildthings i wish were different:- providing a better cover than the in-box silicon one -- when it turns yellow, i have no idea where i'm gonna find a replacement- 2.5mm headphone jack instead of 4.4mm (this is just what i prefer)- improved battery life when streaming music online- wouldn't get hot like indian summer heat temps -- can happen when you're streaming, have more apps open in the background, wifi & bluetooth running all-time. it saps battery like crazy and also gets super-hot.things that the DAP may not be suitable for:- online streaming- using it like a phone attached to the internet all the timewell, if you've made it this far and thinking to yourself, what is the point of spending almost 40k on this if all you can do is listen to offline music and beyond that, your DAP just becomes a fancy paperweight, well my priorities were as follows:- a DAP that doesn't have a smartwatch's face for display (readability is key)- a DAP that could be held comfortably in one-hand like a 5" phone- an android-based OS DAP- a DAP with good build quality- a DAP with good internal storage (enough to run w/o hics)- online streaming is not a priority- your entire local music library in the palm of your hands- a DAP that you will travel with so good battery lifethere are good ones in the market but either they were too high a price for my needs or i had to give up on some of my priorities that i wouldn't call a "compromise".Basically - if you're in the market for a DAP, know your needs and specs as well. Do the research and foremost - you really need to want a DAP to even venture into DAPs in the 1st place! I really love mine & never looking back.
