HP Thunderbolt Dock 230W G2 Wired Thunderbolt 3 Black

I have dual (4K Hp) monitors setup, and I was struggling with cheap adapters (i.e. switching DP to HDMI port) as well as using a travel version of docking station which has dual HDMI 4K 100W 60Hz. None worked and leaving my desk a mess full of cables and wires. After upgrade to this HP Thunderbolt Dock, it was a simple matter of plug in and go. Everything works perfectly! Leaving one cable only to plug into my work laptop (which has Thunderbolt 3). Still leave a few other USB ports available at the back for perhaps mobile phone charging (however it won't be fast charging given most power is drawn by the laptop charging and dual monitors). Recommend this product without a heartbeat for simply WFH dual monitors setup! It could be bothersome for some due to it's static humming sound in the background.

Same as the one I use at work and has "almost" enough USB ports. Supports 3 external monitors. All over a single USB-C / Thunderbolt connection. Nothing available for the similar cost comes even close.Beware touching the top - the whole top of the cube is a "power switch" and will put your device to sleep/turn it off (depending on your "power button" settings).

DON'T BUY

Horrible design! Big, bulky brick with cords that are impossible to bend. And I can't see how having a magnet (holds two cord ends together) is any good around all these electronics. I don't have that much desk space and had to rearrange my entire setup to accommodate the brick. Horrible all the way around!

Excellent Docking Station

Really appreciate this docking station. Its powered with a USB-C adapter and then connects via USB-C to my HP Elitebook 360. Gives me DVI ports (I have 2 DVI to HDMI adapter cables) to my 2 external monitors. Wired Ethernet port to my router. Basic USB ports to my webcam and keyboard/mouse combo. Its everything in one small package, doesn't take up much space. Do wish it had more USB ports, at least one more for external speakers, but I'll just add a USB hub.

Expensive, but I have 2

I am on my second high powered HP mobile workstation. This allows me to connect a single cable when I move from home to office, and it drives up to three monitors simultaneously. Be sure to order the right one: workstations that ship with 150 watt power supplies need this version. Lower power models can get power supplied from less expensive thunderbolt docks that will supply power over the thunderbolt cable. This version has a combo thunderbolt and power cable tethered together.

Great device for the home office.

Great device, works well with both my Windows and Mac laptops. I personally like the aesthetics of this much more than other similar devices and it keeps my workspace nice and neat. Having only to plug in a single cable to both charge my laptop and connect it to my office peripherals is super convenient and reduces a lot of clutter. Price wise it was much cheaper than comparable devices too so overall I'm very happy with this purchase. If you have Thunderbolt connectivity on your laptop I definitely recommend this device.

Great used dock, even for Lenovo Thinkpad

I'm running a lenovo laptop but this generally works great. I'd read some issues with Lenovo's own docks but experienced none of them with this HP model. Though it's not for everyone, I like the "tower" form factor on my desk. Having a semi-built in cord is also go value. Port selection is solid and it handles easily my needs - ethernet, usb ports, usbc-display port monitor. It has an internal fan, but it is reasonably quiet, especially in an office environment. I don't really notice it. The only issues I have with it are the power button only works for HP devices (fair enough) and I wish the Thunderbolt cable came out the back or allowed configuration to keep the desk completely clean. Not a bad little dock!

It's pretty simple and easy to use. Mostly plug and play. Some units with Audio may malfunction and need the audio module to be reseated for proper functionality. We came from Lenovo docks. The HP ones have a smaller footprint and integrated audio makes things a bit cleaner on the desk. The one drawback I can see is that the power button only works on HP machines (which makes sense, I bet the Lenovo power button only works on Lenovo machines), so with our Lenovo machines, there's a bit of inconvenience to some users. Overall it's been good. The integrated Thunderbolt 3 cable makes it easy for our end users to figure out where it's supposed to go.

Powerful and simply works with ZBooks

Great experience with this so far. I have an older ZBook G3 and newer ZBook G7. This works flawlessly with both of them. I might not have needed the 230w dock for my G7 though, looks like the USB-C charges it fine as long as I have the display turned off (I have it connected to 49" Super Ultrawide Monitor but use two DisplayPort connectors). I read people complaining about the top of this dock acting as a power button, and accidently turning their computer off. I absolutely love this feature, I leave my ZBook closed most of the time, and it was annoying having to open it to turn it on, now I don't have to.

Works as advertised; pricey due to power supply

This model is specifically for those with high powered HP notebooks--models that consume more power than can be delivered via Thunderbolt. As a result, this has a 230 watt power brick. So don't purchase this particular version if you use a computer that uses less than a 100w power supply. The unit works flawlessly and is an ideal companion for my HP Zbook.
