Do not buy the Honda EU2200i. It was delivered, I put oil and gas in it as directed by the manual, opened the vent, and turned on the switch and choke as instructed. i use this generator for power outage. i reside in gulf coast areas and hurricanes are an issue for us. i used this generator twice. first use about 10 hours. second use about 22 hours. on third attemp generator would not start back up. my third attemp to start unit was only a few hours after using it the second time. difficult for me to give a review.i am very discouraged at this point. i will take unit in for warranty. if warranty process turns out okay. i may not be disappointed. i performed some diagnostics on my unit. i am getting spark, fuel delivery is okay, what i found is that the engine has no compression. 0 psi when performing compression test on engine. with 0 psi reading this unit is not going to start or run. I hope warranty takes care of my issue.

Home Depot did refund 100% of the purchase price. Anyway, when I ran the generators they that evening they seemed to work fine, although one took 8-10 pulls to start. An hour or so later I went outside to check the generators - one was putting out dense white smoke as if it was burning oil. The smoking slowed down after a while but did not stop altogether so I turned that generator off. Did not need parallell power from both because I was not running the 5th Wheel AC. We needed to depart for Arizona the next day so I did not have time or the inclination to drive 25 miles out of my way to have the Camper World folks look at the generator. Did not use either generator on the trip home. Drained fuel after arriving home and only used one or the other generator for about 3 hours per month until February 2019. Set them up by checking oil, refueling, etc while at the Copperstate Fly-In, Buckeye AZ to provide power for the 5th wheel. While setting them up I noticed that one had a large amount of excessive oil "gushing out" when I opened the Oil Dip Stick/Filler cap. Drained the oil, did not use it for a day and then fired it up. Seemed to work fine for 5-6 hours and then "sounded funny" so I shut it off and drained everything and prepped it for storage as per the manuals instructions. Knowing I would need it this weekend I took it to the Tucson AZ Camper World where the service/parts man spent a good deal of time checking out and running both generators. They both seemed fine so he suggested I take them home and run them for a half hour or so, shut them down and change the oil. If the suspect generator started smoking again he recommended I bring it in for potential warranty work - which I will do if necessary.Bottom line - make sure you double check whomever initially or subsequently services your generator. They can easily, as they did at the Edmond OK Camper World, over fill with oil - potentially destroying your brand new generator. I believe that I am and was lucky because I did not run this very tough and easy to use generator for any length of time - as did the very knowledgeable Tucson Camper World Service/Parts person. If you ever stop by the Tucson AZ Camper World Parts/Service Desk ask to speak to the retired U.S. Coast Guard Chief - he knows his stuff and enjoys helping his customers.Always check and re-check dealer maintenance and work, just like one should do with their vehicle. It is amazing how often they make mistakes - especially ones that can ruin your day and empty your pocketbook.I appreciate that Honda makes a very tough generator.Steve

For use on boat
14 December 2023

I bou.ght this generator for back-up power for my boat. When I plug it in the 2 reverse polarity lights light up on the boat. everything works fine when pluged into shore power. I tried 2 power cords and 2 new adapters. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong. I called Honda and they said take it to dealer. I asked to speak to tech, they said I could not speak to tech and if dealer could not resolve issue I was out of luck. So now I have a generator I can't use and no help from Honda. Sorry (no) customer support .

Honda EU2200i is reliable and quiet. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase one again. It’s very quiet. I like the Bluetooth capability to monitor the service recommendations, voltage and to stop the product. I wish Honda would build a companion generator with auto start.Pros:Quiet. Reliable. Starts after 4 pulls. Easy to transport.Cons: No engine oil in box (Engine Oil is $16 a quart). Generator Bluetooth range distance is limited. Oil was splashed over the engine cover when I opened the box.

Survived a pelican attack

Our Honda generator is 20 years old. We use it on our sailboat. After a couple of cloudy days, where the solar panels could not keep up, we plugged in our generator and put it on the swim step. 20 minutes later, I was in the galley when I heard a huge crash and the boat rocked. I thought we had been hit by a panga. I ran outside. A pelican had flown into the spreaders and dropped 30 feet to the deck. Eager, and unharmed, it started takeoff but needed an extra booster. It spied the red Honda and used it for purchase as it soared into the air. Weighing 30 pounds, with a wing span of 5 feet, it knocked the generator into the water with the extension cord attached. We pulled it up, took it completely apart. Sprayed water and corrosion block on everything. Put it back together and EVERYTHING works. Being under salt water for 30 minutes. Wow. What a machine.

Very Disappointed at this point

My brand-new generator (purchased one month ago) is today in a local repair shop. I read through the manual completely and carefully followed the instructions. The oil level is correct and I used gasoline preservative in the tank. I started the generator on two occasions about a week apart, it ran well; I tested it to power our garage refrigerator and it worked well. Afterwards, I drained the carburetor using the drain screw according to manual's instructions, and the minimal amount of gas in the tank had ample preservative in it. After about 10 days I attempted to start the generator with fresh gas and it refused to start after two hours of attempts and re-reading the starting instructions to go through the start procedure checklist. The local repair shop verified that I'd tried to start the generator in the correct way.I bought a Honda due to reputation but am disappointed in a brand-new machine malfunctioning even with careful attention to proper fuel etc. At this point, I could not recommend your generators. I do have a Honda mower which gets less care and it runs great, but I'm surprised a generator which is supposed to operate outside in often adverse, stormy conditions is so subject to breakdown.I have some mechanical experience doing my own oil and spark plug changes on mowerengines and my two cars, so I'm familiar with the care/maintenance of engines. I expected a little more toughness and built-in reliability from a new Honda generator.

Purchased from a small dealer. First the starter rope frayed so I shortened it and it did it again after a few pulls! Obvious defect in the starter that is tearing up ropes (not uncommon on old units). Dealer claims this is not a problem so wont fix it. Then ran rough for some time and then has very little power (wont run anything but a couple of LED lights) but now it wont start. Dont have heat in below zero temps without a genny, not fun waking up to 26 degrees in the house!!! I get they are busy and need to schedule a time to drive 6 hours for repairs but the dealer will NOT schedule for repairs so I am buying a harbor freight generator tomorrow morning.
