My old HoMedics massager finally wore out after about 10 years of much use. The interchangeable massage heads were oval and flat and covered a bit more body surface. The infrared heads heated up very well; you could really feel the warmth. I liked the fact that I could turn on the massager and heat the heads separate from the vibrating function. I ordered this online and received it quickly, but when I plugged it in, it only made a little buzzing sound and vibrated just a little, and it didn't change no matter what setting it was on. The heat worked, but the massager didn't. I'm assuming this is defective because I had an older version that had a powerful massage. After many years of use it developed a short in the power cord, and only worked intermittently, so sadly I had to toss it. This massager is still really heavy like my old one, but the grip handle isn't as ergonomic, and the plastic bits just seem like they are not as sturdy. Also,I should mention that this item was sent to me in a box with absolutely zero packing material. Just a box sloshing around inside a bigger box, also with no receipt or ... JUNK!!! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Like many others, I purchased this massager to replace a HoMedics massager which broke after more than 10 years. This new massager is severely under powered and it’s highest setting is not even equal to the lowest setting on the old massagers! Seriously, don’t waste your money! This item is useless and only gives a minor vibration, not even close to a percussion like advertised. Read the many reviews that say essentially the same thing. I did, but took a chance and immediately regretted my decision! This item is JUNK!!! Homedics lost another customer with this unacceptable item!

We've always used hand-held heated percussion massagers made by HoMedics. Our last one is still going strong, but runs loud and rattles. This model is similiar in weight and dimensions. The plus is that it's much quieter. There's an automatic 15 minute shut-off to prevent overheating. Fortunately, we bought two to allow for tandem use when one shuts off. The rubber grip handle is very comfortable and helps to absorb transferred vibration which might cause pain or discomfort when in use. Although this product can be used without assistance, it's much more effective with the aide of another person as the weight and angle can be awkward when applied onto the upper and lower back of the torso.
This Homedics hand held massager in black is fantastic especially with the added benefit of optional heat! It has just the right amount of vibration without being too rough on sensitive areas like the neck or feet and being able to add heat if needed makes it even better. A must have gadget for sore muscles and relaxation!
IF I COULD AWARD "ZERO STARS", I WOULD.GARBAGE. STRAIGHT UP TRASH. This thing did NOT even finish the first massage, that is how terrible it is. It worked for all of three minutes, and then stopped working. Now I am stuck with an overglorified paperweight that didn't even massage in the first place!Homedics USED TO make great products. Now? I'd stay clear away from them. What a waste of time and money...
The massager is heavy yet powerful on targeted areas. I can barely feel the heat function. My main complaint is how loud this is. Other than that this is pretty nice, strong, and sturdy. The quality of the material is good quality. I only gave this a three star because of how loud it is and I cannot feel the heat function.
I had bought a previous version of this over 15 years ago, it was starting to rattle so I wanted to replace it. I chose this one because it also included heat, a nice addition. Overall this does exactly as it is expected, I only have 2 dislikes. #1 the placement/type of buttons to operate are very unfortunate they often change setting because I am simply holding the unit. #2 the handle, my old version has a cushion grip, this is hard and has raised seams on the edges, making it uncomfortable to hold.
Purchased to replace a 20ish year old model and regret it.In comparison the percussion is too light even on highest setting. Controls poorly designed as when I adjust grip to aid pressure they are very sensitive and too easily turned off. The grip is too narrow and short hard for maneuverability.
It does vibrate. It does not "really" heat. It is heavy, for one hand. It is less usable than my 20 year old model. Use of 2 hands or a second person would be my suggestion for use. Will continue to look for a better design for my needs, leg and back tension.
