I've had this bad boy for a month now, and I can truly say that the upgrade from my old, beaten-down Fiio M9 to this has been so worth it! Sound quality is excellent (neutral), as is the battery life (just a 25% decrease after 8 hrs of continuous use playing FLAC files). I have never experienced any heating issues on the unit unlike an unfortunate few. The seller included a complimentary green Hiby lanyard to match my green R4 after I requested it, even though they did not guarantee that they could give me one. Thank you so much, LWH Electronics! Highly recommended!

I have to say that the Hiby R4 has no reason to be this good at this price point, but the R4 excels in features and capabilities of DAPs twice the price.I have been researching for a budget DAP for along time and after looking at SONY, Shanling and other budget DAPS, The R4 ticked all the boxes on what I wanted in a budget DAP, so I took a chance and bought the HIBY R4. Also, R4 has that really industrial mechanical coolness vibe to the DAP. I have to say this R4 does not disappoint. I originally came from listening to Hi-Res music from the iPhone dongle system, which sounded OK, but the R4 sounded amazing with my Letshoue S12 Pro IEM on 4.4mm balance connection. This is a definitely a buy for anyone interested in a budget DAP.

A wonderful DAP in this price range.R4 checks all the boxes for me.There were some reviews about R4 getting over heated. I haven't experienced it. I listen at 40-50 volume levels at low gain.Tried connecting external dac to R4 and it works flawlesslyIcing on the cake for me is MSEB, I'm in love with it and we can have MSEB at system level is a huge plus for me.I would recommend this to anyone looking for a budget but capable DAP. 5/5 for the product and as usual full marks to theaudiostore for their serviceBelow mentioned is my current setupMusic Source : Apple Music and Local FlacHeadphones/IEM : HD560s/Artti T10/ATH M40XDAC : Mojo2/Cayin RU6/Fiio KA13SD card : Sandisk extreme 512GB

I purchased my HIBY R4 from Music Tec and I give them the highest marks for customer service.I have a Sony NW-A306 I will use as comparison. The Sony is smaller and has a slightly more open soundstage. Otherwise they are sonically similar. The biggest problem with the Sony is the underpowered UI and the instability of the operating system. It is so frustrating that I sought out an alternative player and ultimately purchased the R4. The R4 is a bit bulkier and has a larger screen. The user interface is considerably more responsive than the Sony. There's rarely any lag when making adjustments. I use Amazon Music to stream most of my music. The sound quality is superb but the app isn't well suited for a small screen. The R4 is a bit bulkier and has a larger screen. The user interface is considerably more responsive than the Sony. There's rarely any lag when making adjustments. I use Amazon Music to stream most of my music. The sound quality is superb but the app isn't well suited for a small screen. It's difficult to navigate with many of the options truncated. The R4 sound is crystal clear with plenty of power and depth. The Sony has a built-in graphic equalizer, the R4 has a built-in parametric equalizer. The Sony equalizer is intuitive, the R4 is not. In fact the biggest complaint I have regarding the R4 is the lack of documentation. There's little to be found even if you visit Hiby's website. The R4 has frozen once since and I was unable to find the instructions on how to force shut it down until I stumbled upon a reddit post with the instructions. Fortunately the problem has not reoccurred. I was able to find some information by searching the web, - this is particularly handy for adjusting the parametric equalizer. There are many options with obscure labels, but once I had the instructions, I found the tool to be quite useful and I was able to precisely tailor the sound to my liking.All-in-all I am quite pleased with this music player. I think it's an excellent value and so far the best portable solution I have found.
I was lucky to get it as soon as it landed. i had selected Sony but on googling had a chance to know about r4.after buying Iam blown away. worth the money u spent. good battery and good response. no hanging. i have put 512gb card with wav Tamil songs. what i miss/ wish is rotating knob for volume control. I don't use inbuilt player but i use power amp. in built player has too many settings afraid i may detune, i use xm5 but using 3.5 jack. yes, its around 2x clarity than Bluetooth. volume I use is around 50/100, pretty loud. Any questions can ask me.
Prior to this, I used iPhone 12 & FiiO BTR15. My listening experience tells me that iPhone has one of the finest DAC inside: the timbre & separation is top notch. It is evident when I stream music from iPhone to BTR15 using Bluetooth. Also, iOS supports bit perfect in USB mode. BTR15 has excellent DAC & amp inside. All in all, that combo is the finest & very portable in my opinion. However iPhone has two limitations: Storage (Can't use SD card & probably Apple will never give an option, I used Emby as alternative, but not portable) and lack of excellent music player app on iOS.Coming to HiBy R4, can tell that it's DAC is not as capable as on BTR15 or iPhone. Timbre is not accurate and minute details are very feeble. However where it excels is its Amp quality. Class A amplification produces very natural mixing of different layers of sounds. Slight warmth makes music more musical (perfect for relaxing).SD665 is very efficient. No heat is produced if only DAC is used (BT mode) and battery too lasts longer than a typical android phone. However when listening using it's output jacks, Amp comes into picture & then it warms little & battery too drains slightly fast. I can listen 10-12 hours using 3.5mm on 32 ohm. While streaming Spotify using WiFi through BT on my JBL Flip 5, it drains very low (3-5% per hour).Software is little buggy. For example, if I switch from BT to 3.5 without pausing music, MSEB stops working. Also, MSEB was working on BT for 2 days, now not working. It keeps giving bumps. To me, it serves my purpose: on the go player with good DAC & Amp, with excellent software (MSEB, PEQ, Battery % limiter etc.), SD card & good looks (black beauty). When I am on the go, I anyway don't listen to minute details. And when I am in critical listening mood in my room, I can use it as digital transport with my Desktop DAC Amp.In summary, Money spent is justified if it serves the purpose, and it does so for me.
First and foremost, Musicteck was outstanding in the purchase of the Hiby R4. I recommend them significantly!I am new to the world of IEM’s and Dap players. For that, I decided to take a chance on an inexpensive player, before diving in deep. I’m not an android user (Apple) and have found the navigation to be easy. I also find the Hiby app easy to use.I have been in the 2-channel Audio world for 30+ years; however, I wanted to have a more intimate experience listening to music; so, I decided to try headphones. That was not a success for me, as the headphone was too confining for my wants. So, I decided to try IEM’s. I also wanted to use a DAP, as I didn’t want to intermix my phone with my music. The R4 provides a lot of sound qualities, along with significant ... MoreFirst and foremost, Musicteck was outstanding in the purchase of the Hiby R4. It's 2nd purchase from audio store, after using my 1st purchase 'Simgot ew 300 DSP' for one month on Samsung S23 ultra mobile phone. This time I bought Hiby R4 DAP along with 1 more iem and 'Audioculor case' to carry both on the go.It's been one month now, I can surely say Hiby R4 is best buy. I am using samsung S23 ultra, but sound quality of DAP is superb over mobile phones. The sound on bluetooth to various speakers (Car & JBL speakers) also very good.while searching on web, I came to know that It has two certification 'High Res audio' and 'High Res Wireless'.After month of continuous usage, Now, I can say that it's best decision I have made in my audio listening, exploring & experiencing journey. Now, recently I have bought 'Thie Audio Monarch MK3' from ... MoreIt's 2nd purchase from audio store, after using my 1st purchase 'Simgot ew 300 DSP' for one month on Samsung S23 ultra mobile phone. This time I bought Hiby R4 DAP along with 1 more iem and 'Audioculor case' to carry both on the go.It's been one month now, I can surely say Hiby R4 is best buy. The HiBy R4 is a well-made DAP with great features at an affordable price. The sound quality is great; you can improve it with the EQ settings. Certain plugins can help you find the best sound possible with this device.Upon ordering the black version of the HiBy R4 for my birthday, I was pleasantly surprised by the swift shipping, despite our location in Austin, Texas. While the Walkman is a good player, I've decided to keep it as a backup. The HiBy R4, on the other hand, offers a wealth of software options and a robust music file scan function. This function allows you to scan the entire storage at once or specific folders when adding new music, ensuring a secure and organized music library. You can add up to 2TB of micro SD card. I added a SanDisk 512 GB card. I copied the music from my Walkman to the new card and then scanned the music on it. The files were recognized by the HiBy with no problems. The only hiccup initially was that not all the album cover art was recognized. After some research, I found that you can fix this by a) making sure you have the cover art in jpg or png format inside the album folder and b) the file name of the art file is “cover.jpg” or “cover.png.” This will allow the HiBy player to display the cover art perfectly for your music. If you want to get into the DAP hobby, this is a great beginner DAP. The price is great for all the features it has. The build is premium, and it comes in four anime robot/cyberpunk styles. Do yourself a favor and get it!
This DAP is a game changer. Its basically an android music player with loads of power. It leans a bit warm than analytical but in terms of details it can retrieve a lot of details. Its a bit smoother compared to DACs like moondrop dawn pro or fiio btr5/7, KA17, etc.The added warmth when paired with bright leaning sets like the Quintet or Pilgrim gives a nice depth to the overall soundstage making it more holographic. But when paired with a bit bass heavy sets like the Estrellas it may feel a bit sluggish...I even run my Sundaras through them and it was awesome.I absolutely adore this DAP and you can absolutely get them.Additionally they have system PEQ and bit perfect playback even with apple music which is a game changer
