None of the pockets can be secured, which made this a poor choice for me. Where do I put my passport while traveling? My wallet and keys? Fine for when I’m going to work with my laptop and water bottle but not much else. I often find myself shoving my purse (with secured keys, wallet) in the main compartment. Aesthetically a good size (I’m 5’2”) and generally cute but really not very practical.

A small book bag that comfortably accommodates a handful of small books and a notebook or two. I would wish it had a couple of interior pockets for pencil/pen bags,It's comfortable to wear although the padding could extend a bit lower and be a bit thicker. The hardware works well.In all, I am perfectly satisfied with the purchase.

I love this bag. The pull string fastening takes some getting used to and is fluffing up a bit from being pulled. I’m hoping it won’t get any worse. I would prefer fasteners on the outer pockets as items could fall out. On the whole though it’s great. It looks lovely. I love the colour which is moonbeam.

I bought this bag for a trip because it advertised a 15L bag. But it was an 8L bag that I received.I Spoke to a customer service rep, who assured me they’d sent the wrong bag.So I paid express and reorderd the bag, while I returned the “wrong one” .One week later, the exact same bag shows up saying 8L bag with completely different dimensioned to what’s mentioned in the specs.I don’t believe that they have a “rose tartan” Herschel backpack in a 15L capacity, just in the 8L.I have Brough this up with the customer service, but it doesn’t seem like anyone’s done anything about changing the details.
Lovely ivy green colour, good size perfect for my volunteering role at a Wetlands centre in London. Holds my binoculars, lunch, jacket and more. Will also be using it on weekends eye. It took a while to get use to opening and closing it via the toggle. Herschel sent me a video on how best to do this which really helped. So, great customer service too.
It’s so pretty😍. It’s able to hold my laptop. I also got the matching laptop case and 3 pencil cases. The pencil cases are large enough to hold other stuff like make up, computer accessories, medicine etc. I purchased two pencil cases floral, and one red. These things, including the laptop with the case, my cooling station, 3 pencil cases, my walet, 16 OZ water bottle all fit in the retreat small. 👍🏽
I don't normally write reviews but I spent a long time looking for a backpack and was very excited when I found this one. I like the size, the style, and how it's made but it has one major flaw: the straps become very easily unbuttoned. If the bag is even remotely full or in transit, they do not stay clasped. I find this very annoying as I cannot tell when the bag is on my back during my commute. Even just the motion of lifting the bag from the train seat and onto my back - they do not stay secure.It would be much better if the straps were actual buckles. I wish I had noticed this right away, I would have returned for a different style.
Needed something to bring my work computer to and from home especially on rainy/snowy days. Love the durability of Hershel bags so I knew I wanted this brand. I feel I should've gotten the larger size tho, but it's fine. I hate the mechanism on the drawstring, took a while to get used to. I carry alot of things to work so I now realize I could've used the extra space of the bigger backpacks, but this is great for someone that doesn't carry a ton of things to work, this can also be a great weekend adventure bag, I'll be using it alot more for sure in spring/summer when going on really long walks/hikes.
Nice looking and sturdy backback. I have been using it for about 9 months and it was all perfect until it rained, for 15min… in London. The interior (including my laptop of course) was completely wet, I even had a small puddle on the side pocket. I had a similar Sandqvist before and this never happened. I was expecting maybe a bit of humidity inside but not this. And Im not talking about Nigara falls here, just a mid-heavy rain in London for a few minutes… with an umbrella… so really not great. If I knew this I wouldn’t have bought it
Even though I’m a reasonably tall woman;I’ve always found that most backpacks are uncomfortable on my body and cause some sort of pain when they’re heavy or if I wear them for long. That’s why I went for this backpack for daily use. It’s very comfortable to wear and doesn’t get very heavy because of the lightweight material and its size. I put my laptop without a case (but with its plastic cover) in the sleeve and it doesn’t feel dangerous. The front pockets are useful;especially for carrying a water bottle and a thermos. My only gripe would be the lack of an inner pocket to put my wallet and phone in;but that’s not really a big issue. The thin straps are sturdier than they look. The bag is ok under a reasonable amount of rain;I can’t speak to heavy rain or storms. ...
