The '61 SG is already a famously "sick" guitar for rock, blues and metal. The tone is amazing, and along with the looks, inspires when dialing in Black Sabbath and Cream tones, not to mention Freddy King, and yes modern metal imo. This Demo was as described, and really, is what one would expect when buying a new guitar from a brick and mortar store where other customers have handled it before finding a home. Sweeetwater really stands out, especially on being able to see the exact guitar -new and "demos" -- you are getting before it's delivered. Thank you!

Great guitar and great service. David my gear advisor was very helpful. The first one sent had a blemish and was quickly replaced. The replacement was spot on. I love the way it looks, feels, sounds and plays. The SG has both form and function. The guitar is comfortable to play and rivals my Stratocaster in that regard. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

I am pleasantly surprised that these reviews Iāve been seeing are legit. This is a great guitar that is so easy to play with great speed. The neck is what you expect from a slim tapered neck and the fret work is flawless. Iāve always had to condition the neck and do a basic setup on everything with the exception of Fender. They seem to always get it right. The condition of this rosewood is spot on. The finish is flawless. I canāt find a thing wrong with this guitar. Way to go Gibson. You finally hit a home run. If you're buying and enjoying an SG you're probably aware it's a unique and quirky instrument. The body is very light despite being all mahogany and it does suffer the classic neck dive and tuning stability issues common with Gibson guitars. But these are aspects of the guitar more than negatives in my opinion. It's a classic shape. It's very light weight and plays easily. If you don't like the Les Paul because of its chunky neck and thick neck pocket you may be pleasantly surprised by the thinner neck and upper fret access of the SG! It tends to be a darker sounding guitar with it's all mahogany body and neck with rosewood board and classic nickel fret wire. But I'm nit picking here. With volume and tone controls for each pickup you get a lot of control over the sound of the guitar. If tuning stability is an issue try pencil graphite or Nut Sauce to lube the well cut (usually well cut) nut. Gibson is unfortunately known for let's say less than perfect fit and finish on their instruments. You will probably see imperfections in the paint job and finish if you look closely enough. That's just par for the course with Gibson. But I'm a Gibson fan. They make instruments that don't sound like anything else and the SG is one of those iconic rock and roll machines! I highly recommend it!

There's too much good to write about this SG to be honest so to summarize I can't even call this guitar a rock and machine id call it a musical weapon. It sounds absolutely phenomenal which for me was the most important part. I'm used to strats which id been playing the last 18 or so in terms of playability, it def plays different but it plays really nicely. It has a lot more pop and feels stiffer. The finishing and everything else is top quality as well. Guitar is beautiful. Not only does the guitar sound awesome with literally any type of gain, but the cleans are extremely nice sounding as well. I`ve been playing guitar since I was eight years old. I have owned an American Standard Strat, a Les Paul Studio and Traditional Pro III, and an SG Special. For my style of playing (blues rock), this SG is it for me. The tone is insane, the 61 pickups are perfect, and this is the first guitar that I didn`t need to get completely reworked by a luthier. The truss rod was perfect from the factory, with zero fret buzz. I adjusted the action and it`s ready to rock. Gibson has fixed their quality control issues. If you love that 70s / 80s overdriven sound, this guitar will not disappoint. I`m glad I waited until I could afford this model because you don`t want to buy an SG twice, this is the one.
Everyone has cherry and black, not me:-)Great guitar but needed a few things. Blank TR cover replaced with one that said Standard.Selector ring rhythm treble was printed in gold. There is nothing gold on this guitar.Replaces white plastic toggle cap with a real metal chrome one. Replaced vintage crappy tuners with Kluson non locking chrome ones. Now she is perfect:-)

All the clear plastic film was removed except for the little plastic thing between the neck and pick-up, there is a dent in the bottom bout, the frets are tarnished, the strings rusty and the set-up is about what you'd expect from a very low end guitar. I bonded with it right away so I'll likely be keeping it, though for this kind of money ($1933.00) after taxes I expected something with a higher standard of fit and finish.Don't get me wrong I love this guitar.
