Gibson J-45 Standard Rosewood - Rosewood Burst

This is Gibson's flagship acoustic, nicknamed The Workhorse. As you would expect at this price, the hand-made construction is very good, playability is easy due to the slim neck profile and the treble, middle and bass tones are well balanced, with a strong bass. The colour and finish is perfect, with rich colours on the top.It comes with a plush hard case, a signed Pre-pack Checklist, a D'Addario Humidipak, a cleaning cloth, truss rod key, second strap button (to install as you see fit) and even a Gibson branded keyring!The J-45 has quality all over it - a guitar for life. But before shelling out the cash, you might want to compare it against its closest rival, the Martin D-28.

Can't put the J-45 down!

Coming from entry level Martin and Fender Acoustic's I made the jump to a proper Gibson Acoustic J-45 and am not looking back. Feel like this is the guitar I'd pick if I was at the Sweetwater store. I cannot put this guitar down it plays perfect and looks so beautiful. Quality instruments really make a difference in higher satisfaction to play and overall sound quality. Many thanks to Mr. John McWhirter for getting the right J-45 to my door and ensuring install and placement of the back neck strap button to my specs. John McWhirter and Sweetwater rock! If on the fence for a J-45, highly recommend. Worth the money due to my forever guitar. Cheers!

Excellent Guitar

I bought my Gibson J45 Standard a year ago, so I waited a year to write this review to see if my initial reaction to the guitar has changed. It has not. I had a Martin D18 that sounded great, but I never really warmed up to it. (I have another dreadnaught that is my go-to guitar, so parting with the D18 wasn't difficult.) I listened to multiple D18 vs J45 comparisons on YouTube. In every comparison, I liked the sound of the J45 better. As with any guitar, no two sound the same, so I tried several J45's until I found one that sounded good to me. There are many adjectives used in reviews to describe the sound of the J45 but to my ears it has a warm, deep, full, rich and resonant sound. I've read about Gibson's quality suffering in years past, but I see no issues with the quality of the guitar. The shorter scale makes it a little easier to play than a longer scale dreadnaught and the neck is very comfortable. I haven't used the electronics, so I have no comment on that. When it came time to make the purchase, GC matched the lower advertised sales price at another shop and gave me a good price on my D18 trade in. The Gibson J45 Standard is everything it's cracked up to be. I highly recommend it.

Feels like the one

Nothing fancy, just good ol fashion tone. Definitely is instantly recognizable. It's a new guitar, but it feels and sounds like I'm holding a piece of history. I'm definitely enjoying breaking her in. Not the loudest most robust sound, but that makes it better for recording and to sing along to. To me she sounds and plays a lot better with some regular phosphor bronze strings. Never been a fan of the strings Gibson's leave the shop with, so any time I test drove one it left me unimpressed. I've been playing for 20 some years and it took this long to finally feel like I got the right guitar! Gibson J-45 Standard Vintage Sunburst

This is my first Gibson acoustic guitar. I have owned and played Taylors and Martins in the past. But, I must say that this Gibson J-45 exceeded my expectations for a quality, great sounding guitar! This J-45 has such a sweet and balanced tone with a resonance that is very pleasing to the ear. I am now a Gibson fan forever. This guitar has a deep, rich bass with the mid-range and treble blending beautifully to create a great sound. After strumming a G chord in a quiet room you can hear the resonance last for a considerable time which indicated the solid, quality construction of this guitar. Gibson Montana J-45 Standard, Vintage Sunburst

I recently purchased the Gibson Montana J-45 Standard from PMT Online, and I am absolutely thrilled with it. The guitar arrived on time and in perfect condition. It was well-packed and protected, and it came with a Black Hard-Shell case.I have been playing the guitar for a few weeks now, and I am consistently impressed with its sound. It is clear, bright, and balanced, with a warm bass response. The guitar is also very responsive, and it projects well. I have been playing it in a variety of settings, and it has always sounds great.

Sound:Epically awesome! Need a severely well tuned (deformed( ear to hear anything discordant!Features:There literally is nothing I would change! As I already mentioned, the first guitar I’ve ever owned that was precisely saddled and nut balanced; absolutely no sanding or tweaking needed, the fretboard is soooo smooth and easy to navigate man; perfect width and length for this eclectic guitarist (blues, rock, county, Medal, folk, anything other than disco or rap!)Ease of Use:Compatibility is no issue whatsoever. I prefer analog (Tube equipped) amps with compatible gear- it’s performance will be epic regardless of recording equipment- the only thing that can hurt the sound and response of this instrument is the individual using it!????! That said, if you are a truly serious AF amateur, it would probably be the easiest to learn on because of well the fret board and strings respond with very little pressure at all, even with mediums & above. It comes with nice DAddario lights- I replaced them with Eddie Ball phosphorus Brass wire, I prefer Eddie Ball with few exceptions, I do like the DAddario’s better on the Jumbo and Fender acoustic in my quiver however!?? Personal preference always with stings.Value:Worth every dollar and properly maintained, this instrument will only become more sweet sounding as the wood matures with proper humility and increase in value- I suggest keeping it in its case with humidifier sound hole cover or snot wads.The Wow Factor:The classic GIBSON Dreadnaught lines, paint and beauty! It’s unmistakable in every way of being a Gibby Classic 45!Overall:The GIbson J45 is everything it’s long time reputation say’s it is! First off it’s Gorgeous, just a beautiful instrument; the playability is epically awesome, I did not have to make any saddle or nut adjustments at all! It was PERFECT out of the box- the first guitar I have ever had that happen! And it’s not a “one off” a lot of cats I have talked to who also covet this pristine sounding dreadnaught, have echoed the same thing- it appears to be constantly True from the Hummingbird up in the Gibson line. The electronics are professional grade A with very cool controls in the top of the sound hole: at first I thought: “WTF”, but after taking it out of the most beautiful hardcase it ships in, I went awwwwe; NICE! Most very sweet, it is way more convenient and easy to use! There are very few guitars for us “Lefty’s” to choose from; fortunately, both the J45 and Hummingbird come left handed. I advise unless buying a classic/ antique to roll with the J45 if at all possible. The pay as you play dialed me just right, no interest and it arrived the day after it was back in stock! (It does go fast-preordering recommend if their out, and if zZounds is out, probably everyone else is too, been there done that!????! There is not a Martin or Taylor within +\- minus $800.00 that sound or plays as well as this baby, not in the Left Handed options! The GIBSON Jumbo classic does at around $3,200. To $4,000 depending on availability. (I bought the Eppiphone J-200 EC, changed out the saddle and nut- stripped the POS wires; threaded in DAddario XT’s Nickel wound- BOOM! Sounds every bit as good as the Gibson G-200! The “G” not “J” G-200! And no, it does not roll that way with either the Eppiphone Hummer’s or J45’- not even close, including the G-series, Know that! So, there it is man, it’s the last guitar you will ever NEED! (Definitely not the last guitar you will ever want- once your looking at these seriously, you probably already have GAS or soon will!) Last note: on stage or in the studio, this is one of the most dynamic, crisp, full; robust sounding acoustic-electric guitars I have ever heard, especially at the high end, the hardest frequencies to really have dialed in without losing anything in the mids or low end)

For the price, expected immaculate quality . The guitar looks great and sound great , but the action was pretty high. There is some minor blemishes around the sound hole and the neck. They don’t affect playability, but you expect more from 2600£ guitar. Definitely would not recommend.

I got a very good deal on this from Andertons so I was very happy about my purchase.. however, when it arrived, I was a little disappointed, it looked gorgeous and immaculate but the strings were totally dead and the action was very high, it didn't sound at all like any j45 I'd played before so I was pretty upset and sure I'd be sending it back.I didn't want to be hasty so I left it a couple of days to mull over.I decided to risk the return policy by giving the truss rod a tweak, lowering the saddle and putting a new set of strings on ... and wow!! Night and day difference!! Overall:I can promise you, the Gibson J-45 is the most versatile, picture/sound perfect acoustic guitar money can buy. I’ve owned Taylor’s, martins, fenders, yamahas, and many more. Zero and I mean zero of the many acoustic guitars I’ve own/owned have sounded this great in every end. Vibrant highs, bassy lows, and the smoothest mid you can get. No wonder this guitar is basically the most recorded acoustic guitar in the history of music.
