I have a pair of the new play:5 that I wanted to mount high on our wall pointed down, and have 2 pairs of Flexson wall mounts for the play:1 that have served me well. So, when I saw they were coming out with wall mounts for the gen2 play:5 I went ahead and ordered a pair. When they arrived, the L-shaped piece that fits on the base plate and holds against the front lower part of the speaker to keep the play:5 from sliding off the front of the mount was loose in the box, detached from the base plate. The assembly instructions didn't mention having to attach the L-shaped front flange to the base plate, so I looked at the flange to see how to attach it. In both my mounts, the L-shaped flange is held onto the base plate primarily with tiny plastic posts < 1/32 in height; these fit into holes in the metal base plate, which is considerably thicker (about 1/8). There are also posts coming down from above that fit into the holes but these are very soft and flexible rubber, about 1/16 thick. In my brackets it is pretty easy to simply pull the L-shaped flange off the base plate, which I find of concern since I want them to be pointing down, and the play:5 is pretty heavy (14 lbs) and puts out a lot of bracket-shaking bass. I contacted Flexson on their web page form to ask if this was how it was supposed to be designed or I simply had received two with manufacturing defects (it happens), but have not heard back from them. As for any product that is intended to mount a heavy object overhead, I suggest that the end user should carefully look at this product when they receive it and consider whether it is designed and/or manufactured safely for their particular application.
Arrived quickly, product was easy to assemble. Great design. Giving only 4 stars as I was replacing an identical 3 year old Flexson unit used outdoors in a sheltered area that had rusted badly. One of two, the other is fine. I sprayed the new one with a clear lacquer hoping this one will last longer.
