I bought this for my almost 2 year old granddaughter. She is so obsessed with this that her parents have to hide it so she will go to bed. She has figured out the hiding spot and points to that spot when she wakes up! I love it that she loves music!

I truly did love the music box, we had one and this brings back memories from my son childhood. This was purchased for my granddaughter on her first visit to my home. My son enjoyed playing with it as much as his daughter did. We love the nursery rhymes from the innocent child’s life.

Like others reviewing this item, I remember this toy from when my young daughter had it in the 70s. It was purely wind-up/clockwork and there were 10 jolly, familiar nursery rhymes were chorused; so that children would eventually learn the actual words, and successfully sing along.I intended to send this version to a new youngster in the family.The quality of the plastic and moulding is good. The box and 'records' feel solid enough. The colours are bright and inviting.However, this reincarnation of the product is truly disappointing. And not just because it now requires batteries. A wind-up mechanism exists, but even when the 'player arm' is raised, the 'record' keeps turning. I bought this for my 18 month old grandson because during a recent visit he was carrying record after record over to my son and indicating that he wanted them played. He seemed to love the ritual and hardly listened to the music. I sent him this record player and my son and his partner say it is now his favourite toy. I cannot wait to visit so that I can see him playing his very own record player.
Although the record player looks identical to the original version (1970s?) it is very different in its sound production. The old one was like a music box in that the music was produced mechanically. No batteries. You had to keep it going by winding it up and the sound was the same sound that you get from a music box involving pins and 'plucking'. The modern plastic is much more shiny and very smooth compared with the old plastic. It still has to be wound up to turn the turntable but the sound is produced through a speaker using battery power. Therefore it sounds (rather disappointingly) different. Just received this to replace the one we have had for 35 years. I didn't read that this requires batteries, or I would have questioned more. I saw the "Authentic Reproduction" label and ordered it. Not even close to being authentic. The old Fisher Price Record Player operated like a music box with records that had little bumps to play the music. This is ALL electronic. The old one you would wind to play - this requires batteries. I am seriously disappointed.
We bought this record player for our 2 year old granddaughter for Christmas, because our children had one when they grew up and it was one of the best and favorite toys they had. It was played with so much that it wore out! They changed the records, wound it up and pushed the start button all by themselves.Well, someone got the bright idea to make it a mechanical battery toy and completely ruined it. It doesn't sound as good, isn't the same quality and, surely, isn't as much fun as the original toy. It isn't a "retro" toy when you take away what made it a good toy in the first place. Don't waste your money on this. Ours will be going back! you money...

Nostalgia Love. I love this toy. I loved it when It first got it as a kid and I love it even more now. It brought back such good memories of my childhood. I am so in love with this toy that I almost did not open the box and let my kids play with it. Eventually I did. At first, I was really bummed out because it was not working at all and that just made me feel horrible because it came with batteries in it. But. Those batteries were not working. Even though this toy is a wind up, it still needs 3 fully charge AA batteries. My batteries were not full charged as I thought they were, so when it did not work after I changed out the initial batteries I was still sad. But, this story has a happy ending. I have a four year old daughter that loves music, so naturally I got this for her and she loves it. It is very practical, you can store the discs on the back of the record player, it has enough room to store all 5 discs that come included. Also, it has a handle so that my child can carry it everywhere with ease and it is not heavy at all, and the size is just perfect to fit into her little backpack for when she goes to grandma's house. It is easy to use, I don't have to go back and forth changing the discs for my daughter, she can do it all by herself, and the discs have music on both sides, so it does not matter if it is upside down, it will still play music. The sound is great, not too loud and not too low, it is just perfect for our ears.
