My go-to for baking! This is a regular purchase for me as the best value butter I can find for baking. I prefer unsalted so that I can add salt as recipes require and love that I can get this in the bigger 500g size. Is this the nicest tasting butter to have on a fresh loaf of sourdough? Absolutely not. But I wouldn't expect it to be at this price point. I do occasionally put some on toast with vegemite and it's perfectly fine, but I wouldn't use this as a hero butter flavour in a bite/dish. I also appreciate the 50g lines marked on the packaging making it easier for guestimating weights - saving me from getting my scales out every time!

Essentials Unsalted Butter. Iām always working at converting recipes to be butter-free for my partner, so ironic to get a chance to try this sample and indulge; a generous sample too as I would usually buy the 250g size. I love a fully-Aussie product but very happy to try some NZ butter from our cousins out east. The fat content of 83. 6% makes it ājustā passable as a good cooking/baking butter which is more what I would use this unsalted version for. I tried it melted to dress some simple vegetables and, personally, cannot tolerate eating them that way at all! Adding a bit to olive oil for a simple pan-fried frittata was a hit as it adds a little more luxury to the dish (not too often ). Very okay melted and added to my usual batch of muffins instead of vegetable oils ā the texture is very pleasant and indulgent too. Very good in a batch of choux pastry too, ready for Easter. It has a good smoothness, but there are more smooth and spreadable butters out on the market albeit at a higher price than the $3. 50 for 500g ($7. 00/kg). Very happy with the quality of this butter for my purposes. I used to believe that the European-style white butters were supposed to be superior but I think I read that the yellow colours suggest a healthier diet for the contented cows delivering the raw product , so, I like the colour. My last Woolworths āessentialsā sample was a serious disappointment (chicken nuggets). This product is welcome on my staples list for whenever I need a good butter at a good price.

Baking Staple! As someone who enjoys baking, my fridge is never without unsalted butter and this product is both fantastic value and wonderful quality. Easy to locate in store with the other butter products, the simple red and white packaging stands out in the refrigerator. The helpful markings on the packaging make it easy to cut the correct amount for a recipe. This butter performs perfectly in all the ways that you want it to. It makes delicious desserts, cakes and biscuits. It whips up to make perfect buttercream too. We buy up big at Christmas time when we bake treats for our neighbours. No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Nothing added - just butter! The only way that this product could be improved is if it were an Australian product (it's made in ...Ā MoreBaking Staple! Regular for Baking but not Aussie product. This has been a regular staple butter for baking as it is usually the cheapest option per kilo equivalent price especially in the bigger pack BUT I am disappointed that it is not an Australian product???? I can't understand how it is cheaper to import it than make it here from Aussie ingredients. Woolies does have an Australian Butter option but it is more expensive than this imported one. I do buy the Aussie made branded ones as a preference if they are on special and come down closer to price per kilo as to me they all taste and bake the same, this one if there are no specials.
Nothing wrong with Essentials Butter. The Essentials Butter is what we buy 9 out of 10 times. We use it in stir frys, shallow frying or as a light smear to coat a pan etc - we also add some olive oil to stop the butter from burning. Even last night, a smear on some hot cross buns made for a tatsy snack Essentials Butter has no preservatives, Flavours or Artificial colours and is a product of NZ. No butter has a good health rating and this is no exception with just 1 star - so don't too much, too often The packaging has a handy measuring scale at 50g intervals but unfortunately the wrapping is not recyclable. A recommended product for those using butter. Thanks WW for the sample
I froze my block of unsalted butter... I originally froze my block of unsalted butter as I didn't have a need for it immediately and I had read how well it freezes. Yes, it does freeze well. I was cooking parsley sauce to serve with Corn Beef and I got my frozen butter out and cut of the required amount, made simple by the markings on the wrapper and then back into the freezer the remainder went. The portion I used melted nicely over a low heat and the completed white sauce was nice and creamy. I asked my husband if he liked it and I received his usual non committal reply of 'Yeah, it is good'... I thought it was very nice and particularly good with the already heavily salted beef. I love having it in the freezer and will slowly work my way through the block.
Good Value. This is great for making shortbread. Just as good as well-known brands but at a budget friendly price. I've always liked the markings on the wrapper making it easy to cut off the required amount without having to pull out the scales. (I'm lazy - I know!)Also good for slices and cakes especially if the recipe calls for unsalted butter. (I don't think I can really tell a difference in taste between salted and unsalted butter though). I use the wrapper to grease the tin or tray I'm using for baking.
Useful sample. It's always useful when you get samples of products you would usually buy. Butter is a staple in our house, my husband won't eat butter alternatives. We usually buy salted butter, as it's my husband's preference, but unsalted is handy for baking and such as well. This is made in New Zealand, whereas I usually try and buy Aussie made, however don't buying from our Kiwi neighbours either. Price is excellent and I love that it's wrapped in wax paper, so I can use it in place of baking paper to line baking trays so it gets 1-2 reuses before composting. Will deffinantly buy again when I can't get Aussie made butter.
Great butter for all your needs. Well what can I say?! I buy this butter regularly but was also lucky enough to get a sample as well. This is the perfect butter for all your cooking, baking and buttering needs. It tastes creamy like butter should and when softened it spreads well. I use it for all sorts of things. Baking, buttering, garlic butter, flavoured butter, cooking. It is as good as any butter on the market but doesn't cost quite as much. I also like that it is unsalted so I can control the salt content of my cooking. It is made from just cream (no added nasties!) My only gripe is that it is made in New Zealand when we have dairies all over Australia. Hmmm! But at least New Zealand is our country cousins so I can cope with that!
Tasty. I usually purchase the salted version of this butter. I don't believe there is any different in taste between brands. I enjoyed trying this to compare to salted butter, as I don't think you can really taste the 'salt' in the salted version. Comparatively, there is a slightly distinct saltiness to the salted version. I used this unsalted butter and made a garlic butter which was yum (no surprise)!I usually purchase salted butter as it's often preferable in baking - the slight salt content brings out flavours (e. g. enriches a chocolate flavour). I'd be interested to make two versions of the same baking recipe, with and without salt in the butter, to compare the flavour. Regardless, this is a great quality butter with an excellent price point. I always have a ...Ā MoreTasty. I usually purchase the salted version of this butter.
