This movie got a bad rap when it came out. There were parts that I was not happy with, but when you take into account the difficulty of making a film from a book with so much going on mentally it is really amazing what they accomplished. They also had Frank Herbert as advisor. It stands up well.

David Lynch's Dune has been a favorite of mine since its release more than 30 years ago. The Blu-Ray disc is a great upgrade from the DVD. The big budget now glows on the screen with the best view ever of the elaborate and beautifully designed sets and costumes. The extra features, which were not on my DVD, are a great bonus. There are features on the design of the sets and costumes, as well as filming of the special effects and miniatures, which were impressively state of the art in their day. Very happy with my purchase.

The company who performed the digital transfer did a horrendous job. They left in visible dust specs and the sound volume kept fluctuating. In regards to the release of the Blu-Ray disc, it comes up short with bonus material. The DVD version came with tons of extras and an extended version of the film. The DVD version included the original theatrical release and an extended version. If you already own the DVD version, I would recommend that you not bother upgrading to the Blu-Ray version until the studio does a better job remastering it and included the extras that were included with the DVD version.

This is a super weird movie. If you haven't seen it, recognize that it may not be for you. But in the "culty" world of cinema, this is a legendary and notable film (whether you like it or not!) for a bunch of reasons. As far as the film transfer, this is a solid presentation of Dune. However, it is far from a definitive version. I suspect, now that Dune is being remade, that this older Lynch-directed version will get a new release and will most likely be remastered in 4K. However, that edition will be comparatively expensive. Might be better to just get this version for cheap before it is replaced.
Mislabeled. This is Dune 1984, NOT Dune 2021. Ordered it as a gift b/c online product description says "Dune (2021)." It is not. Luckily, read the tiny (c)1984 on the back before giving it away or opening the plastic. Will return & find another gift quickly. Note the remake 2021 movie DVD actually doesn't release until mid-January 2022
The price was right. Less than the cost for a movie ticket. That was the good news. The movie to me was weird and the characters were not very appealing. Purchased it so that I wanted to see the new Dune coming out and comparing it. After watching this movie I have lost a little enthusiasm about going to the new Dune movie. One thing - I don’t believe the characters and acting can be any worse.
The movie Dune is loved or hated as a movie adaptation of Herbert’s book. My review is not of the movie but of the Blu ray. The features are awesome, the menu is great and the picture quality is remarkable. I have seen the digital version available on Amazon Prime and while it’s a digital transfer/version, the Blu ray looks better and the sound is better too. The deleted scenes are cool but don’t help with the storyline. The fx feature spots on the mind of David Lynch are really worth the price of the Blu ray. If you like Dune you’ll love it more on Blu ray!
I actually enjoyed this more than the new one!The effects held up very well considering how old the movie is. Unlike the new Dune, this is the entire movie! You barely even see a sandworm in the new move!:)
I originally saw this movie on the Big screen when it was first released. Great book to read (series too). Had bought this on DVD years ago when I started to change over from VHS. Always a weekend SciFi fest.
