DeWalt DWST08165 Tough System 2.0 Tool Box

These are great! The fact that they are water proof puts them in a total different category from standard tool boxes. I’ve boughten a set before with the rolling box at the bottom and believe me it makes all the difference moving heavy parts around. I really like that I can keep different projects in different boxes which can be stacked together or separate. I only wish is that Home Depot kept wider range of them to see what fits well with what.

I have been using these sets previously for about 3-4 years now and have been quite happy with their quality. But this set I just recently purchased shows signs of the quality diminishing. For instance, the main latches are loose and wiggle quite a bit while unlatched. They seem OK while latched. The lids on some seem to be curved and seem that they won't help seal and protect your investment as in your tools. The small top box has an issue with one of the side quick latches that doesn't always want to latch securely to my small parts organizers. I have to verify each time I connect something to the top. Shallow tray seems a little bit flexible but is OK and serves its purpose. Not watertight

This is a terrible product. If you want to have your tools textured with rust, then by all means purchase this tool box system. Left this toolbox out in the rain and when I opened it up there was standing water in the bottom. I have left this box in my truck and just the dew overnight got into the toolbox with the vent closed and ended up rusting the tools because I didn’t check on them for a couple days. Would not recommend, definitely a very frustrating experience

Toughsystem 2.0 auto-latch

Auto-latch broke when placing boxes together!! I purchased the Toughsystem 2.0 as I assumed it was going to be an upgrade. Sadly I was mistaken. The rolling tool box took a step backwards. If you open the box with water/overnight condensation on the lid it rolls directly into the compartment. Unlike the original Toughsystem rolling tool box, when you opened the lid it tilted back away from the box, allowing the water to disperse away from the compartment. I’m not sure whom is engineering these systems but perhaps they are loading them with light linen and only rolling around smooth parking lots in fair weather. Or perhaps it’s Dewalt’s (Black & Decker) plan!! Allow the water in and the tools/batteries won’t be covered by warranty for water damage and contractors ... MoreAuto-latch broke when placing boxes together!! I like the new design overall, I don’t want to come off as anti-Dewalt, it just alarms me that the auto-latching mechanism broke from attaching the other tool box. Perhaps it was a bad latch or perhaps bad design, lack of reinforcement. Either way it concerns me. What will happen when when of my workers (or myself) knocks them over or drops them when rolling across a job site? And if this has never happened to you that just means your time is coming!!! With thousands of dollars in just tools, batteries, chargers (not counting blades, discs, and so on) it does concern me. Hopefully Dewalt (Black & Decker) will have a positive response for me. After all I am a loyal customer and have not abandoned ship unlike a few employees and other contractors I sub that have jumped on the Milwaukee wagon.

Worth the money.

Also: looks "fancy"...)- strong latches, the box really feels securely closed when latched- very easy to stack multiple boxes (just align one box on top of another and they "click" together)- includes two large-ish, removable, deep parts organizers, each with two removable dividers (so: each organizer can be configured to have from 1-3 compartments, and one or both can be removed from the box)- metal rods serve as lid hinge pins (I wish they were more heavy-duty, but they seem pretty good)- handles have a VERY heavy duty feel- one handle on the "front" - like a suitcase handle - and one on each sides for two-handed or two-man carrying- handles fold down when not in useCons:- already mentioned: the lid-water getting inside the case when opening the case- the latches connecting one box to another (the "stacking" latches) are plastic and do NOT seem robust (unlike the latches that secure the lid) - I would NOT recommend frequent stacking and unstacking of boxes, if it is possible to avoid that. If you DO frequently stack and unstack, be gentle with those latches!- as of yet no Toughsystem 2.0 drawers, which (if high quality) would be a HUGE convenience, especially helping to eliminate the need to stack and unstack boxes- Toughsystem 2.0 full sized parts organizer not yet available (but will be available in Q2 2022).- The lid only opens up about 90 degrees. It can have a tendency to "fall forward" when you are in the toolbox, especially if the box is sitting at an angle (like when its sitting on uneven or sloped ground). You really get a feel for how tough this box is when the lid smacks you in the head! - I wish it had a "lock in open position" feature, as is commonly the case with large metal toolboxes.Note: I have received three of these from Home Depot (best price) that have two pieces (one from each front bottom outside corner of the box) that fall out of the tool box. The result of poor quality control, I think. These small pieces seem to be mere surface fillers. They glue in easily (and tightly) and so little harm done, but of course they shouldn't be falling out of a brand new tool box.OVERALL: not perfect, but a great, tough, stack-able toolbox for the price

There are some things I like and some I dislike. The latches on the front are satisfying to close and seem very durable. The latches on the lid are autolocking which is nice but not as good as I would have expected. They can be tricky to latch properly and provide a connection to other boxes that is a bit loose. The latches seem reasonably durable. I like how the boxes come with removable bins. The bins seem quite versatile. They have lids and have removable dividers depending on my needs. I like how the lid on the box has a detent or similar feature to ensure the lid does not fall down. The built in feature for labeling your box is extremely nice and will help with box organization. The side handles are awesome and arguably one of the best features since you can lock the boxes onto the wall rack and DS Carrier. They are also nice for when you don't want to carry the box like a briefcase. I like that the boxes are backwards compatible with the previous iterations of Tough System. I would say you are getting roughly 90% backwards compatibility which is great. While the box isn't perfect I would 100% recommend it to anyone wanting tool storage. It is tough enough to withstand quite a bit of abuse and the modularity adds value that a user may not receive from lower priced tool storage options.

They are beefier and more easy to latch and unlatch while retaining the latching strength. Tough system 2 size is slightly larger and is welcomed. Original had the under lid small parts trays that pulled down and although I guess they would have their place in some circumstances, I found taking them out to gain more space was preferred. Tough system 2 lacks these and this improves the space in the toolbox to accommodate power tools easier. The bins with lids that come with the tough system 2 are very nice. They seem very secure for smaller parts. The possibilities would great to personalize the toolbox even more for your desired effect. This is not a downfall of the product, just a suggestion for dewalt. The new stacking latches are awesome. Very easy to connect another box and even easier to unlatch from another box. The old style on original was sometimes hard to unlatch when connected to another box. Water resistant gasket seems of good quality and is a slightly improved design over the original. Handle feels very comfortable in the hand even with a lot of weight in the box. The overall construction of the box, like the original is very sturdy. I seriously doubt the strength of this box will ever be an issue. The only complaint I have is now I want to replace my other original tough boxes to this new style. It’s that much better! And that’s saying something because the original boxes have treated me very well through the years. Highly recommend the purchase of one of these!

I have had this toolbox for about 3 weeks now. It is part of Dewalts Toughsystem 2.0 line up so it works great on top of the cart products. I personally store my impact driver and hammer drill. All on the XR platform. They all fit easily in the box along with a selection of screws in the 2 (I only use 1) provided holders that come inside the box.This is not large enough to store my circular saws, but I could also fit my cordless jigsaw and sander in there as well, but it gets pretty crammed at that point. You might want to put something in to keep your tools from shifting around too much, but if you are like me I generally have 3-5 bit sets and some other related things in the box as well so they pretty much keep things from flying around.The 2 storage ... MoreI have had this toolbox for about 3 weeks now. They can be removed if you need more tool space. They are very deep and basically go to the bottom of the box. I only use 1 in my day to day and it holds around 2 lbs of screws in each of the 3 compartments. You can remove the dividers as well for larger item storage.The toolbox itself is very sturdy, but also quite heavy. The handle and snaps are very strong and feel like they will last longer forever. The entire box lid has a very heavy duty rubber around the seal so you won't have any issue with water getting in if you throw it in the back of your truck. If I had to carry this around a job site all day it would be too heavy for me personally, but that is not its focus. It is meant to be used with the Toughsystem carts so you don't have to heave on it all the time. Mine with all my tools is roughly 40 lbs.This is definitely one of the best boxes I own and I feel pretty secure storing my higher end drills and such in it. If I get some bigger boxes down the line I may end up transferring this into hand tools only, but for now this the perfect box to store my drills that didn't have a case.I put a couple of my fit testing photos below I hope this helps with your purchase decisions to see if it fits your needs.

I understand this is a storage system, however this particular box can be used as stand alone toolbox and is a good way to get into Dewalt's storage system.Things I like• Heavy duty but light weight a the same time. For reference. I am specifically reviewing the small case of TS 2.0. I already own 6 TStak Boxes, 7 TS 1.0 boxes and now 1 TS 2.0 Box. I am a FT remodeling contractor & use my tools & boxes everyday on multiple job sites. TS 2.0 Pros- Virtually everything has been updated / upgraded from version 1.0. From the metal latches, to system modularity & especially the new patented 1-touch side-latches. Everything has been well thought out and equally well executed. I especially appreciate the new Pre-cut foam inserts and removable tray options which add a whole new dimension of customization & storage flexibilty to the system. I always use foam (really like my tools organized & kept looking new) & cutting your own can be quite tedious from large sheets. While I haven't ... MoreFor reference. Lastly the extra storage advertised requires the use of the new DS carrier, the small box seems about the same size as previous and depending on your situation the inc. storage containers may or may not be usable. All in all, I'd give this box a 4.5 out of 5. Just hope the continue to innovate and expand the storage solutions available with the new 2.0 line of boxes
