Firstly I'd like to mention that the XPS14 with maxed specs was a very luxurious experience while I had my hands on it. (Maybe a week or two) If it weren't for the slight defect with the keyboard (it was ever so gently not flush to the surface) I would likely still have the beautiful masterpiece in my hands and lap. I'm not a review expert - I'm moreso someone who has been looking into the ultimate compact machine that balances the capabilities of studies, photo/video editing, 3d modeling, and casual gaming. (I also devoted these last 3-4 months into chat gpting every baseline angle of computers to help me dial in which computer will suit my needs) So do keep in mind, this is my subjective opinion and experience with my semi limited knowledge. _ Anyways - Let's talk ... POSITIVES - Display - VERY beautiful touch screen OLED display (wow) - Audio - very immersive once I adjusted the settings, this I will miss. (I was super satisfied using this as the speaker for my monitor) - Size - This is a very balanced size for portability. - Visual aesthetics - people will most definitely take notice of your computer as it is beautifully designed. - Performance - Overall performance was satisfying. Web browsing, the little time I spent dabbling with AI generative videos, light gaming. NEUTRALS - Keyboard - I very much enjoyed the typing experience and was not inconvenienced by the top row being swapped out with a light/touch interface. Very pleasing to the eyes. - Track Pad - a sleek design for sure but it's a little wide and tends to register my palms being placed onto it. Not necessarily ideal as I enjoy laying my palms on the laptop. - Connectivity - it comes with an adapter for hdmi & usb (I think) it looks quality as its own piece and it gets the job done, but it's definitely not ideal and tends to get twisted around after being connected. - Gaming - My gaming experience was phenomenal with games like fall guys. Even when using it to connect to my monitor. It just fell short of expectation when I attempted to play chained together on medium to low graphical settings with my brother online on the monitor. Surely connection played a slight role, but either way, this was my experience. NEGATIVES - Material - The material of the computer seemed to scratch easily. Not a big deal but I noticed some scuffs from my military wrist band. Surely this could accumulate over time. - Upgradability - RAM, GPU, CPU are all soldered to the mother board. Your only chance of upgrading your performance is an ExternalGPU. But this costs a lot of money (eGPU unit + GPU) and you'll naturally spend way more than anticipated. And will your future desired eGPU be bottlenecked by the cpu? - Price - I understand that this masterpiece is visually appealing, packs some higher end specs, and is compact for portability needs. But I found myself attempting to justify the amount of money I spent, and when I started exploring different options as I waited for my refund to upgrade to the XPS16 I realized: wow let me just build a custom pc with higher end specs, full customization, for less than what I spent on this laptop. I do decent for a living and am comfortably getting by, but it's hard to make money nowadays and I'm just unsure why anyone would sacrifice some extra bones when there are other options out there that could most definitely fulfill your needs for less money. IN SUMMARY This product is an eye catching beauty that shines in areas other than gaming. This moreso seems like it's aimed towards students/professionals that want a laptop that excels in productivity, design, editing, etc. If you have money to throw away and love the aesthetics, then go for it. Otherwise, I'd look into other alternatives. They're out there. You just have to look. (Pro tip: chat gpt you're desired specs and usage out of your future laptop and watch some videos regarding the product - I was very pro XPS14/16 despite the price and the biased negative reviews online, but once I got the product, I found truth within the reviews.)

Within minutes of light use, it's already too hot, and the fan kicks in like a jet engine. Worse still, the overheating causes the laptop to throttle down to the point where it's practically unusable. I've had it shut down on me multiple times due to overheating while doing nothing more than streaming a video. Battery Life: The battery life is laughable. I get barely an hour out of a full charge, and that's with all battery-saving features turned on. The charging time is equally absurd, taking hours to recharge fully, only for the battery to drain again almost instantly. Audio Quality: The speakers could be described as producing sound that's so tinny and distorted that listening to anything on them is a painful experience. Disastrous Updates: Each software, firmware, or BIOS update might introduce more bugs and glitches, rather than fixing existing problems. You're going to dread updates with this laptop! Btw, the updates themselves fail MULTIPLE times to begin with. Deceptive Return Policy: What a horrible and unethical company! The return policy is so riddled with fine print and loopholes that they're practically useless. Even when I tried to return the laptop I was met with A LOT OF resistance and excuses from DELL, making it nearly impossible to resolve any issues. Here is a LOOPHOLE: I accidentally marked that this laptop was for a business purchase despite getting WINDOWS HOME. They gave me the runaround to the business department who IS STILL NOT PROCESSING MY REFUND. Customer service will give you the runaround until you give up! Customer Service: The whole atrocious customer service team is OVERSEAS! It's run by a bunch of useless people. After spending hours on hold, I was finally connected to someone who clearly had no idea what they were doing. They offered no solutions, only excuses, and outright lies. When I requested a refund or replacement, they bounced me between departments until I was eventually hung up on. I had to call MULTIPLE times and each agent gave a date as to when it will be resolved. MY REFUND IS STILL NOT PROCESSED AFTER WEEKS! Final Warning: Do Not Buy This Laptop and RUN FAR AWAY FROM DELL DELL is a lousy and unethical company, and their laptops are junk. They don't care about quality or their customers, only about taking your money and leaving you with a worthless piece of garbage. Avoid this laptop and this company at all costs. They deserve to be out of business. You'll thank yourself later.

I was quite disappointed with the keyboard. Some keys are misplaced such as the A key just adjacent to the Caps lock. I often hit the Caps Lock key when writing a text with an A. I find that the illuminated strip of keys at the top of the keyboard somewhat annoying because of the faint illumination and the fact that we have to bend forward quite a lot just to see the faint keys. The delete key is very sensitive and I often deleted several files at a time. I find it annoying that there are no conventional USB plugs on the side. I know there is an adapter but I had to buy another device (a concentrator with 2 USB, 1 USB-C and 1 HDMI). When I had problems with connecting the printer, I was told by the Geek Squad at Best Buy store to bypass concentrators and plug directly a USB cable to the computer which of course would have meant again to buy a special cable. By the way, we all all kinds of trouble connecting my Xerox Printer Phaser 6180 with wifi. Still, the printer is printing very slowly and this is maddening. Finally, I find the speakers rather poor. I listen to classical music and the speakers performance is inadequate to say the least (perhaps they are good only for rap music with Bang-Bang). So, I thought I would plug in my old desk speakers with an audio plug but again there are no audio input plugs on the computer. Another annoying aspect is the touch pad. It is very easy to touch it while doing other things and delete a job. There are some features that I appreciate but those are annoying. I end up connecting a mouse and keyboard with bluetooth. So now I have a clumsy situation where I have to have a keyboard in front of the portable computer which is not at all convenient. I know that my criticisms will go nowhere but I just thought to let you know since you ask for my evaluation of the product. Serge

Nice solid, well built little laptop - ice blue colour is not very blue if you don't like blue - looks silver until you put it next to silver/grey. A good spec - New Ultra Core 7 processor with 16Gb and 1Tb is to be expected these days - this is one of few Dell laptops with 1Tb, you only end up with 900Gb after all other partitions. Nice matte screen, good resolution, bright enough indoors but doubt it would be good outdoors on sunny day but wouldn't have bought a 300nit display if I wanted to do that. Battery life is at least 5-6 hours under general use, fan is quiet unless doing installations or other intensive work but does not stay on for long. Speakers are excellent, nice bass, not tinny. Track pad not the best I've used but ok, I always prefer a separate mouse ... Track pad not the best I've used but ok, I always prefer a separate mouse anyway, don't like the gestures for right click menu and scrolling - too many fingers! Keyboard has a nice feel - used for a week now and not missing any keys - used to using a full size keyboard - not missing numpad. If you need numpad that you can always get a wireless kb and mouse combo. Only grumble - is back-lit keyboard max setting not very bright. Charger comes with USB-C connector and as laptop only has one of these you can't charge and use a USB-C device - but you could buy a dedicated charger - there is a dc port - don't know why they didn't provide a dc connector with the charger - would have been a nice touch. All-in-all a good buy - previous Dell Inspiron 17 lasted at least 7 years, so hope this one does too.
As I expected, my new XPS 13 9340 is a small, thin, lightweight, readily portable laptop, designed to handle routine productivity applications, note-taking and web browsing, with some ability to go beyond those uses at times. With that in mind, it is excellent. I bought it to replace an older XPS 13 model 9343 laptop from several years ago. That older laptop had a Core i5 CPU, 1920x1080 screen, and 8GB of RAM, running Windows 10. I had a pretty good idea of what I would be getting, allowing for a faster CPU, a higher resolution screen, more RAM and Windows 11. I got my new XPS 13 9340 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 CPU, a 3K (2880x1800) OLED touch screen, 64GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. With those options it wasn't cheap, but I don't replace my computers frequently and I bought it with potential future as well as current needs in mind. It is not designed to handle everything a desktop tower computer or a laptop with a 16" screen and multiple ports can do. It is not designed to perform heavy-duty numbers crunching with large spreadsheets, drafting large and complex documents, editing large videos, heavy-duty gaming, or using extensive external accessories -- but those aren't things one buys a 13" laptop to do. The optional OLED screen may draw more battery power and go shorter times between recharging, but I knew that and made a conscious choice to get the higher resolution screen, which turned out to be a real pleasure to use. I got lots of RAM, as there is no such thing as having too much RAM. There are just two USB-C ports and no other ports, but that goes with being small and slim. The keyboard and invisible touchpad may take a bit of getting used to, but that will come with time. This laptop will do the things I bought it to do, and I like it. Beyond personal use, I would recommend it to students carting a laptop to classes and libraries, and to business people for taking laptops to meetings or on the road, as its small size and light weight are ideal for those uses. The standard non-touch screen and 512GB of storage are probably good enough for most users, but I would strongly recommend spending some extra money to get at least 16GB of RAM.
I bought this to replace an old Inspiron 14" screen laptop that would not run Windows 11. I had an XPS laptop in the Windows 7 era so decided to pay the extra and buy this 13" one, partly to have less weight to carry about on my travels. So far, it's not bad, although I have had a few issues. Occasionally, the laptop just freezes and, whilst I can still move the mouse and open Task Manager using Ctrl+Alt+Delete, I cannot do anything on any of the open applications as the keyboard is not responsive. This usually clears after a minute or 2 but it's very frustrating having to stare at the blue spinning cursor. Task Manager tells me that Windows Explorer is using 25+% of the CPU so there should be spare processing power for the other applications, so I don't know why it ... This usually clears after a minute or 2 but it's very frustrating having to stare at the blue spinning cursor. Task Manager tells me that Windows Explorer is using 25+% of the CPU so there should be spare processing power for the other applications, so I don't know why it freezes. The applications on the task bar sometimes disappear into the overflow area (accessed by clicking the 3 dots), even though there is ample space on the task bar to show them; not sure if this is Windows 11 or the laptop but I don't get this on my Dell Inspiron desktop with a 27" Dell monitor (nor does it freeze for a couple of minutes at a time)! (Spookily, this has just happened as I was typing this; perhaps it's reading my mind!). One of the other reasons I bought the XPS model was for the aluminium case, although I think that this might just be the lid holding the screen; the bottom of the laptop feels like plastic, which is a bit disappointing as that seems likely to be the area most prone to damage through dropping etc. Overall, though, it is good enough and if the freezing issue goes away then I will be very happy with it.
Silver is BACK! The new 7450 2-in-1 is fantastic. Hinge for the screen is robust and feels "solid" - a big improvement over past 2-in-1 models. 2 x USB-C and USB-A ports means connection with old and new USB devices etc. is a lot easier. Eventually only USB-C will be there but for now older USB devices/peripherals can still be used without adaptors. A FULL HDMI port is also a nice touch. The SSD and RAM is more than ample, and the Ultra 7 processor is fast for daily business applications and web delivered content and systems. The keyboard is a big standout as the keys are a little more raised and make it a lot easier to type with - especially with larger hands and fingers. The touchpad is smooth and responsive, but I like a mouse. L/R clicking on the touchpad is ... MoreSilver is BACK! The new 7450 2-in-1 is fantastic. The keyboard is a big standout as the keys are a little more raised and make it a lot easier to type with - especially with larger hands and fingers. The touchpad is smooth and responsive, but I like a mouse. L/R clicking on the touchpad is also very easy. The screen was not as "vibrant" as I was expecting but works well and the touch screen side of things is as expected and responsive. The built-in speakers do a rather good job when in a Teams chat and video through the camera is crisp and responsive too. Battery life is exceptional - with well over 8 hours usage without need for charge with how I work. Overall weight is not to bad (as long as you are not lugging around a dock and power supply) and the chassis seems to keep it's cool pretty well with good ventilation underneath the laptop. The addition of the Copilot Icon on what was the old right Windows Key is moving forward to all that AI and accessibility. Overall a very robust and performance laptop for business and home office!
Purchased after moving away from Windows some 2+ plus years ago and literally just having to return to the Windows O/S. This is my 4th Dell after having an XPS, Alienware and G Series in the past. An expensive purchase by any means especially as I went with the OLED display, which is georgerous and the RTX graphics. So far after 4 weeks I really like the machine. The keyboard however is taking a little getting used to. My other more major gripe would be related to the graphics card. While purchased primarily for work use, I also bought for occasional gaming. At point of purchase I don't think Dell made it clear enough that the RTX 4050 card in this machine is rated at only 30w, the lowest rating for a 4050 machine currently on the market. At point of purchase I don't think Dell made it clear enough that the RTX 4050 card in this machine is rated at only 30w, the lowest rating for a 4050 machine currently on the market. I am running Cyberpunk 2077 on it (yes I am aware I could have purchased an Alienware etc for the same price, but needed the small form factor and better build quality in my view offered by the XPS models). However I am happy to report, that with the settings significantly turned down I now how this AAA title running Butterly smooth and a big plus is that with the lower wattage rating the machine barely gets warm, even when running such a title. This will hopefully add to the longevity of this not insignificant investment. Still getting used to Windows Co-Pilot. I am hoping that such a new machine will also receive all of the updates so that it qualifies as a Co-Pilot + machine what with the new Snapdragon driven machines about to enter the market. Speakers could perhaps be better and louder, but otherwise a lovely machine and solid build quality!
I use this machine for my Network/Systems Admin job and equipped it with 32GB's of memory, the Core 7 Ultra chip, and the RTX 4050 GPU. My previous machine was a 7390 XPS 13 and for comparison, the 14 is noticeably heftier and larger as one would expect. That aside, the increase in power this over the previous machine is excellent. I can run multiple VM's or containers in WSL without much hassle whatsoever. Under normal workloads it's astonishingly quiet, which tells me either the cooling is more efficient or they crammed a larger fan in this thing, but color me impressed. The 4K display option is gorgeous, the inclusion of 120hz is also very welcomed. The difference coming from the 1080p LCD panel in the XPS 13 I had is nothing short of astounding. Obviously being ... Obviously being oled, the colors and contrast are very pleasing to spend time looking at as well as the viewing angles being much improved. I love typing on this keyboard as well, I was worried as the 13 had an amazing keyboard. But after getting hands on with the 14, those worries went away and I'm very happy to say I love the typing experience, there's also basically zero flex of the deck when typing. The speakers and webcam are both great as well if you're using this for meetings. Overall, can't say enough good things about the XPS 14! A glowing recommendation for anyone thinking of replacing their 5-6 year old machine.
This is a really good machine. Fast, not too heavy, great screen, nice and sturdy build. Additionally another reason for buying Dell is that I knew it would come with a service manual, meaning that when (for example) in a few years the battery needs to be replaced it is designed to be user maintainable and comes with all the instructions necessary. I deducted a star for minor things that are not a problem as long as you know about them. The biggest disappointment was when first switching it on. That gorgeous OLED display is just horrendously over saturated. So bad it makes people look like they are suffering from extreme radiation sickness. It is just horrible and at first I could not find a way to fix it. After doing some research it turns out there is a free Dell ... MoreThis is a really good machine. After doing some research it turns out there is a free Dell app called Dell Premier Color. Download that from the store, use the calibrate function and the problem is fixed in no time. This is quick and easy when you know how. But why not deliver the machine with a decent setup in the first place. Next, the power button is part of the keyboard, conveniently located next to the Delete and Backspace keys, just waiting to be pressed by accident when editing text. This will be a problem if your previous keyboard had the delete key in this location. Previous laptops I have owned put the power button away from the keyboard to make this mistake less likely. Finally, and this is not a fault with the device, just a feature of its design. It is a powerful machine in a metal case. Consequently when it is working hard it makes a lot of heat and metal does a great job of conducting heat (much better than plastic). It has a large air intake on the underside which absolutely needs to remain unobstructed at all times. If you are used to using a laptop on your lap then two things will happen; the machine will struggle to cool itself and the metal casing will get even hotter, and you may harm yourself. I would strongly advise getting one of the many laptop desk type things that are available; that way the machine will be able to cool itself properly, you will reduce lint and dust getting into the fans, and you will not burn your legs. I would never, ever, ever place it directly on a fabric surface like a carpet, couch or bed. Overall this is a great machine and I would definitely buy it again and recommend it to anybody who wants the kind of power, performance, and high quality display that it offers. Also consider buying a Dell laptop if right to repair is important to you.
