It got dofter the longer I ran it. I was starting to regret my purchase but decided to wait til I'd made more ice cream in it to really judge it. I'm so glad I waited - it makes GREAT ice cream! Comes out as soft serve but I put it in the chest freezer for awhile and it's hard. The soft serve way is ok to eat - frozen quite a lot actually - especially around the sides. I now know why the first batch wouldn't get hard enough - I'd only had the bowls in the chest freezer 6 hours and that was from delivery temp., room temp. and hot water dish washing temp. Now it's at least 5 days in between the times I make a batch and it gets as hard, if not harder, than my freezer makes I have to use ice and rock salt with. And without all that mess! Since then I've used the sweetened condensed milk recipe and it's soft enough to dip right out of the chest freezer - but it's very sweet. Today I used a recipe that calls for a pudding package (small,) an egg (cooked custard before freezing), and Splenda sugar blend, and it turned out great. We were buying Blue Bell and now we have homemade that tastes as good a Blue Bell for a lot less than Blue Bell costs. I'm so glad I purchased this! I had a Cuisinart frozen dessert maker years ago and loved it, but found I wasn't using it enough for the space it was taking up in my freezer. Things have changed, so I bought this new one. I made fresh strawberry ice cream first, which took a little more prep time. I also made it earlier in the day and put it into an airtight container in the freezer. The next time, I decided two hours before I wanted it that I would make vanilla to go with fresh strawberries and pound cake slices. I stirred up the sugar, half and half, and vanilla in a large measuring cup and put it in the refrigerator until after dinner. I set up the machine, poured in the mixture, and in 15 minutes had lovely ice cream. I’ve also experimented with Guar Gum as a stabilizer and am pleased with a scant 1/8 teaspoon in the simple vanilla recipe. I find that the chocolate, strawberry and custard recipes do not need a stabilizer. A rubber spatula is great to scrape out the frozen mix from the bowl…but offer a plastic spoon for the last remaining bits for the cook’s helper treat.

Great machine with just one little quirk ...

Sent as a gift, this is an ice cream maker that is amazingly easy to use. Maybe, because it's truly idiot proof, I have only one complaint, but it's an annoyance that really irritates. It overflows.I make a batch of ice cream, set a timer (running it for more than 30 minutes almost guarantees a mess), and walk away. Except Life happens. If I take longer than the 30 recommended minutes to get back to the machine, I can go ahead and get the wet towels together. I can already plan out my pre-dessert schedule. Sticky mix will be all over the simple machine and my counters. Now, if I make it back before the overflow, there's still a mess to clean up. The paddle is corners that hold soft, fresh mix in such a way that, after 5 batches, I can't figure out how to gently ... MoreSent as a gift, this is an ice cream maker that is amazingly easy to use. The paddle is corners that hold soft, fresh mix in such a way that, after 5 batches, I can't figure out how to gently scrape the ice cream off the paddle without wearing or dripping a good amount of it. The mix gets into the sleeve of the machine, and even if caught at that perfect point, will freeze there, at the top pf the paddle, just waiting to melt on the counter. While this machine is beautiful in it's simplicity and is excellent to clean (I have a lot of practice.), the simple lines and clean (pun intended) and spare style hide a wonderful machine. If your dinners are better scheduled than mine, or you have more creative ways of dealing with the clean-up afterwards.

Great, tasty treats and family fun!
27 January 2023

This is a great addition to my adventures in the kitchen. A friend of mine recommended this Ice cream/sorbet maker. She made sorbet for me from the recipe book that's enclosed. it came out great and I had to get one! I purchased it right away and I've had it two weeks and have made two different types of sorbets, mixed berry, and lemon. I also made a strawberry ice cream. With just the four ingredients it's a wonderful, healthy treat. It's been a family adventure as we each have made tasty treats. It's a great item and a great purchase, and it was on sale!

I have had this Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker for about a month. It is such a nice-looking appliance, it sits on my kitchen cabinet all the time. I am on a low-carb diet and missed ice cream as a dessert. Now I can have fresh, sugar-free ice cream in as little as 30 minutes. The machine comes with a bowl that needs to be frozen for at least 24 hours before you make your first batch of ice cream. It also comes with a detailed recipe book with recipes that can easily be converted to sugar-free. Most recipes can be put together in as little as 10 minutes, poured into the mixer and you have soft-serve ice cream in 15-20 minutes or if you like your ice cream harder, just spoon into freezer containers and freeze. Cleanup is easy and when the bowl is clean, just put it back into the freezer. The motor is not noisy, and clean-up is simple. The paddle and clear cover can be hand-washed in warm, soapy water and hand-dried. I do not put any of the parts in my dishwasher, but that's just me.The only downside is that you should not use any metal utensils on the inside of the frozen bowl. Silicone or rubber spatulas only. As I live alone, the Cuisinart makes just the right amount of ice cream for me to last several day. If you are making it for a crowd, you might need to make multiple batches.

Learning Curve - Takes a long time to freeze
10 May 2023

Got this machine as a birthday present and was so excited to use it. We stuck the bowl in the freezer for over 24 hours and followed the instructions for use. Unfortunately, we ended up with liquid after churning. Tried again the next day, same thing. Could not figure out what we were doing wrong. We decided to freeze the bowl for a solid 3-4 days to see if that changed things. Finally it worked! The ice cream was creamy and tasty, it's just a bummer that we have to plan so far in advance for it. I couldn't find any reviews where people had a similar issue. Our freezer is standard so not sure why it would take extra long.

Loving Our New Cuisinart ICE-21P1 Ice Cream Maker

This ice cream maker is just one step difference from the older "freeze-the-tub-then-handcrank-the mix-unti-it-freezes" process. But that's huge step in this case. Makes a terrific result, whether you stop at the end of 20 minutes of auto-mixing for a soft-serve version, or freeze it for a couple of hours or more for a more typical ice cream result. The simple butter pecan ice cream recipe in the manual produced a result better than any store-bought version I've ever tried. If you don't want to spend several hundred dollars for a compressor ice-cream maker, this is is the one to get. Looking forward to making frozen yogurt and sorbet too! Really happy with our choice!

Make a perfect size batch of ice cream FAST!
5 February 2023

Making ice cream at home is no longer a chore. Ingredients are simple, and very little prep is needed. Ice cream really does churn in 15 to 20 minutes, and the amount this makes is perfect for my husband and I to have during the week. When I was a kid making ice cream was kind of a production, so never was interested in making my own until I got this item as a work anniversary gift. Now we'll probably never buy ice cream again! I like that the parts are easy to clean as well. The machine also comes with a recipe book with multiple recipes, which I also like. I hate buying a gadget and then having to find my own recipes. Thanks for a great appliance!
