This was a great purchase. I've enjoyed trying out different recipes and discovering what works best for me during the process. One important thing I've learned is the recipes provided aren't for me. You can find better recipes online. Some things to note: Of course you have to freeze the freezer bowl for full day before use, so you have to plan ahead. If you can spare the space in your freezer to always keep the bowl ready, then that's even better; you won't need to plan in advance whenever you're ready for a new batch. The ice cream is not going to magically become store bought consistency after it's churned. Whatever sticks to the sides and bottom can easily be scrapped off with a wooden spoon. Always hand wash the freezer bowl. Use a stabilizer, like dry milk powder, to prevent ice crystals. It's so very simple to use this machine, and so far I haven't had any issues with the sound being too loud. It's a good value if you can't spring for a machine with a built in compressor.

I've been using an ice creamer maker from the 80s or 90s for several summers - the kind that requires you to pack ice and salt around at metal canister. It worked and had a certain charm, but it was super noisy, a little messy, and buying the ice and salt was just one more obstacle between me and ice cream. I'd make maybe 2-3 batches each summer. I finally upgraded myself to this Cuisinart machine based on my sister's recommendation. It was affordable (I think I paid around $75), and with only one switch (off/on), it definitely keeps things simple. No ice hassle - just keep the canister in the freezer so that it's frozen when you're ready to churn. I don't get why that hole has a squiggly shape, though. It makes it harder to clean. I also worry the paddle/churner thingy will break over time. The plastic doesn't seem that sturdy. Still, for the price I am very happy. It has greatly simplified my ice cream making, so that I'm more likely to do it, which is so fun! I've already made sweet potato ice cream with candied pecans and a mocha sherbert. I highly recommend David Lebovitz's book, The Perfect Scoop, for recipes. I'm looking forward to many more batches with this handy machine.

Actually works! It's hard to believe the motor is only 50W, but it works because it's on the bottom of the machine, not the top, and it turns the bowl, not the paddle, the way it should be! I've only had it a few days, but have already used it twice to make two vegan recipes, and it does great work! The liquid freezing to the sides is normal. Also, it doesn't matter how much or little saturated fat is in the liquid you put in, it churns out smooth, creamy frozen dessert regardless. Turn it on first before pouring in the liquid, then leave it on until the batch is done.Improvements needed:1. Flip top lid to cover the center hole, to keep out house flies and keep in the cold air.2. Either redesign the freezer bucket so the frozen dessert can be stored in it ... MoreActually works! Turn it on first before pouring in the liquid, then leave it on until the batch is done.Improvements needed:1. Flip top lid to cover the center hole, to keep out house flies and keep in the cold air.2. Either redesign the freezer bucket so the frozen dessert can be stored in it while it's in the freezer, or ship this with an insulated 2 quart frozen dessert container that nests inside the freezer bucket.3. Have a high temperature capacity silicone outside wall and lip for the freezer bucket. The metal can go underneath it. This will keep hands safe when handling the frozen bucket.4. Include 100% dairy free and 100% egg free recipes. Call only for parve/pareve ingredients and brands. Also, try to stick with FairTrade, EqualExchange, or Rainforest Alliance (or equivalent) certified brands/titles.5. The motor has a very strong chemical odor at first, and it still has a high pitched grinding noise. This needs fixing and I'm tempted to send it in for repair or replacement. Also, it doesn't shut off when the batches are done, and that's a feature that's been around in ice cream machines for decades now. It needs to have that added. It shouldn't wait until it's ready to over heat before shutting off.6. This machine needs an ergonomic-handled silicone spatula shaped for getting the frozen dessert out of the bucket, unless the bucket is redesigned to store the frozen dessert. In that case, a 100% stainless steel (not painted fake "steel" ice cream scoop (no moving parts), with an ergonomic silicone handle, needs to be included with the machine.7. This only needs to churn for 20 minutes. It could easily use a high quality rechargeable battery (that won't explode), since it's only 50W. The only justification I can see for having a power cord is if the machine includes a compressor, which could go on the bottom of the machine, rather than in the back, like most of them are made today.8. This machine needs a dough paddle attachment and a whipping attachment (with 3 free-spinning whisks). It could also use a chopping blade attachment and a slicing attachment with a top-feeding chute that's just off-center. Do that and I'll have no reason to keep my old Oster Regency Kitchen Center. Put a compressor with the option to heat and not only cool, with the ability to program for all these things, and I can also get rid of my bread maker. Add options for slow cooking, and you'll replace everyone's slow cookers.

Canister stays colder much longer than anticipated.Paddle does not remove all mixture from the sides as it rotates, causing a permanent ice cream build up of about 1/16".Not a concern until you want to clean the interior of the canister. A very rigid plastic scrapper would be needed; just let the canister come to room temperature or make another batch of the same flavor.Have made no cream ice "cream", cream ice cream but have not tried the egg based cooked recipes which should be at a very high level of quality. The best I have made so far is the cream based, no egg, chocolate which was excellent.I can see using this quite often, I keep the canister in the freezer.

Great Little Ice Cream Maker

After looking at several different models of ice cream makers, I decided to purchase this one. It’s a great little machine and is so easy to use! Once you freeze the drum you simply mix and pour in your ingredients, turn it on and let it run. I used the recipe book that came with it and started out with plain vanilla. When finished it’s the consistency of soft serve ice cream of which I put in a container (after sampling of course) and left in the freezer to harden up. It was so good that I then tried the recipe for peanut butter ice cream since my grandson loves all things peanut butter. It was to die for! It took about 20-25 minutes to churn and as others have mentioned, the machine does make some noise - as do most appliances like this would. But I am totally happy with my purchase and highly recommend this one. My next batch is going to be crushed up Butterfingers into the vanilla recipe. Yum!

The Cuisinart Ice Cream maker has some features that are worth the effort to own another small appliance. The square shape of the machine makes for easy and efficient storage. The idea of putting the ingredients in the machine and letting it do all the work is a no-brainer. The inner paddle-like part is easy to clean as is the entire unit. With one turn of the dial, you can walk away - no mixing or adjusting needed. My concern was looking at the ingredients in store bought ice cream, so I wanted an alternative.Overall, the ice cream machine was a welcome addition for the whole family.

Ice Cream Freedom

I have been looking for a commercial type ice cream machine for some time now. This machine is a good match for me because you dont need the use of salt or ice. It is compact, easy to clean & store, and easy to use.I am diabetic and love to eat ice cream year around. However, it is very difficult to find a variety of ice cream flavors that are "sugar free" or "no sugar added."This icream maker allows me to do just that. I now enjoy a wide variety of my favorite flovors that are made "sugar free." I can even enjoy my favorite "icre cream sandwich" in my "sugar free" recipe.

We are happy with this ice cream machine. We find if we let it run a little longer than what the book instructs (30-35 minutes is good) the ice-cream is better "set "up. With this being said, I'm not using whole milk as the recipe states but 2% milk which I always have in the fridge. (Maybe the consistency would be better "set" with the whole milk.) I'm not sure if it will wear out the motor quicker but no issues a month in.We have successfully been playing around with flavored extracts in place of vanilla extract. The machine does put off some noise but it is not offensive to my sensitive hearing child. This replaced our ice cream (bucket) maker modal in which you have to keep adding ice and rock salt as it melts and can only be used outside. We definitely recommend!
