Honestly....I adore this stuff. It's so perfect for not only kids who are practicing but it really is a brilliant replacement for standard air dry or polymer clay when making crafts. I use it for cosplay armor and props. It is a tiny bit more fragile to be dented but only because it is light weight

I love the small packets so for a classroom so that each student gets an equal-sized piece. Model magic is a great starter clay or practice clay-an excellent product but a little expensive.#sweepstakes

I was very disappointed in this clay. When I got the clay out of the packaging, it was hard, stiff, and almost completely dried up. I had to add a lot of water to get it back to a normal consistency. Once I added enough water, it was a fairly good clay. I have purchased model magic from other stores and it has been a lot better than this.

I used it to make lightweight donuts for tree ornaments. It is porous but nothing that modge podge couldn't fix. I used white dough, painted with acrylics, sealed with M.P. and then frosted from there. It's perfect for a lightweight ornament. I will say it's better to paint after than to tint with washable marker. My macaroons bled even after sealed with M.P.. Going to try to tint it with alcohol inks next time to see if that stops the bleeding.
Crayola Model magic is a great alternative to real clay. This product is a great way to introduce students to clay and in an economical way. Model magic is easy for younger students to work with and does not require an oven or Kiln to set it. (air dry). Once dried this product can be painted, or colored with marker. The option of small 1 oz packages makes it easy to give each student the exact same amount without any preparation on the teachers end.-Air drying-Easy clean up- Can be colored- paint or marker- great for introduction to clay- good price for amount of productUsed for projects such as: Day of the dead skeletons/skulls, snowman in a "snowglobe", flowers, etc
Please do not buy this for projects. Last weekend we bought 3 packages of brown and 2 packages of cream for my son to make a model of Andy Griffith for a school project that is due the end of the month. He made it last weekend. We went to check on it today and found that it had cracked and is falling off. We are now out of $25 and he has to redo his project.
I bought this before Christmas to replace the base of a Santa figurine that had accidentally broken. I simply took it out of the package, and shaped it very simply to look like the Santa was standing in snow. Seemed simple enough, right? I followed the directions on the package (which seemed pretty basic), but the clay never fully dried. I gave it over 72 hours (just taking into account the longest possible drying time) and it still hadn't dried fully. Well, Santa was put away yesterday, and the base still wasn't fully hardened like it was supposed to be. I'm sure this product might be great for very small crafts. But I wouldn't suggest using it for a modeling clay as the package implies.
If you are one of those teachers who does not have access to a kiln Model Magic is a great alternative. My students have made coil pots, plaques, African Masks as well as beads and embellishments. If the project takes two sessions the project can be place in a plastic ziplock bag and it will remain pliable for the next day. The finished project can be left out to dry out in two or three days depending on its thickness. Watercolor paint adds great color to Model Magic. Buy it it in the big 8 ounce bags and you'll start thinking big ideas as well.
*Please read my previous review "IT"S NOT CLAY".I had to write an update review because I received such wonderful customer service. I didn't even try to return the Model magic after it didn't work out with the project we did, but I got reimbursed anyway! I just checked my email one day (about a week after I wrote my review) and Blick had sent me a message saying that they were reimbursing me for my Model Magic purchase. WOW! Now that is customer service! It doesn't get any better than that. We'll definitely be Blick customers from now on. Thanks Blick! We appreciate your courtesy, and we'll be ordering from you in the future. ***As I said before the Model Magic is a good product, just not for projects you would use traditional clay for, but I had to give a 5 star ... More*Please read my previous review "IT"S NOT CLAY".I had to write an update review because I received such wonderful customer service. The kids created donuts out of this clay. It is rather sticky out of the package so I couldn't divide the colors in advance into kits per student as one piece would stick to the next. For the same reason, mistakes cannot be undone easily. However it is exceptionally soft and easy for youngsters to use. It blends beautifully, and sparks loads of creativity. The outer layer dried hard enough but inside stayed soft, which had some kids squishing it the next day (thinking it was dry already), often breaking the sculpture... Everyone though had a blast creating....
