Great, great, great axe from CT, well balanced and very well made head. It really holds the edge (I did have to strope it a bit). I have used it on a very dry 40 yo dead Ash tree, just to see what kind of abuse it can take. Well, that wood was so old and dry - the axe literally was bouncing off of it. However - not a single spot along the edge has chipped or rolled, or even went too dull. The sharpening is a breeze, too.Overall, I highly recommend this Axe, as well as the top notch service from Canadian Outdoor Equipment store. Thank you!

I've owned one since september this year. If I could bring only one tool with me on an expedition I would select that one. The hardened poll means you can use it as a hammer without fear of deforming the eye. The phantom bevels make it a good splitter and it hardly gets stuck in wood when you chop larger trees. Limbing with this axe is a pure moment of joy and inner peace. Easy to maintain as well and comes sharp right out of the box. I love it + it looks awesome!

Beautifully crafted and functional tool. Great for camping because it can do it all. I would prefer a slightly longer handle, but with all axes, everything is a compromise, and there’s nothing else I would change.

The Wood-Craft Pack Axe is an excellent product from CT. A much better splitter than I expected. I’d highly recommend this axe for a camp companion!
I have been using this axe for working hard wood timber since the early winter. It is a different beast than the average boys axe and popular swedish brands. It is designed as a working axe, to do a lot more than camp chores and excel at it. Hewing with this axe is not a problem, chiseling is not a problem. The hardened poll will let you hammer in nails to pull lines or make things like a simple sawhorse. I have used it for chores that I normally do with a drawknife. I am amazed at how well this thing behaves. It is a bit pricey, but you could do a lot worse for the same amount.
I've had it for a few months now and so far very pleased with it. Price is a little more than a GB but you get the hardened poll and the phantom bevels make it quite a good splitter. This axe excels as a general-purpose camp axe. Would not hesitate to buy again. Top tier quality tool.
I'm a shorter guy, and I walk a lot, so I found the 19" model to be a better choice for me, easy to one-hand swing, and light to carry. However, the 2lb head with the flat grind helps it tackle the big stuff as well. I know my axes, and everything on the Council Tool premium line really is premium. The handle is everything you'd want it to be: no varnish, perfect grain, large 3D palm swell. The head is razor sharp, and the hardened poll really comes in handy often. You get a sheath that will last as long as the axe, compared to some of the 'excuses' for sheaths that come with many of the other big names. This thing is perfect.
Great axe overall. The head is a bit heavier than expected and therefore offsets the shorter length of the handle. I would have preferred a lighter head to more balance the feel with the shorter handle. A great axe for general all around use for light to medium cutting. Came very sharp and with a solid leather snap closure cover for the cutting end of the axe. A bit over pried but a quality piece of equipment.
The Axe head i have no complaints it’s sharp works well. It’s the handle i don’t like it’s not the full 24” but well I could live with that my real dislike is the skinny handle chopping becomes unpleasant after a while. The Gransfors Skandinavian forest axe handle is a bit thicker and more pleasant to work with. And the grain in the handle is 90deg to the face of the Council Axe so it probably wont last long not a tool i will take along on a 2 week winter camping trip.In short i am disappointed and will stick to Gransfors tools.
This axe is great. And what makes it great is that it does everything you need from an axe while out in the backwoods. It chops awesome and splits surprisingly well for an axe with a rather narrow profile. And the poll is hardened so you can drive tent pegs or nails without damage. If you plan on carrying just one axe with you through the backcountry and need it to do everything, and well, this is it. It's heavy enough to provide good momentum and power but not so heavy as to be cumbersome or annoying to carry, and the length (the 24inch version anyway) provides good leverage while not being too long that it becomes awkward to pack or carry. I'm very impressed and pleased with this axe and it'll be sure to join me on all my backwoods canoe adventures.
