Corsair K70 RGB Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (Cherry MX Red)
The keyboard is the main input peripheral used by all computers. The keyboard allows for user input and interaction with the computer. Much like many typewriters the keyboard has all the letters of the alphabet, numbers 0 – 9 and additional special operational keys, e.g. for adjusting the volume or going to your inbox directly. There are three different connection types: – USB is the most modern. You can recognize it by the rectangular connector. – PS/2 connectors are round. This type of connection is fairly commonly used by PC’s. – Bluetooth is another modern (wireless) connection method.

Its a Corsair board which is well built. This particular board only comes in the OPX switch, but I wanted the color to match the rest of my computer. I would not recommend this for a general purpose keyboard as the activation point of the switches are extremely sensitive. Personally, I am also not comfortable with the travel distance of the switches. They are shorter than I am used to. If you are into opening keyboards up and changing switches, just know this PCB is not the same as the MX Cherry versions. If you enjoy a quick board for gaming, I would recommend it (like MX silvers). However, if you rest your fingers on keys and go into games, expect accidental activations. That or a cheap used one for spare parts. Lastly, the sound profile of these new K70 pro keyboards all have a ring to them. Flick the bottom of the case and you'll hear it. Typing creates the sound. I have put sound dampening material in mine, but it still has a ring. It is coming from the metal plate. There are other options now on the market that have surpassed Corsair. They are still a very good keyboards and the RGB LEDs match up to their iCue software and really allow personalization, for those who care about that.

The longer version: Old K70 LUX vs. New K70 Pro! I have been using the Corsair K70 LUX since 2016, so as of this review, its been going strong for about 6 years. Its seen a lot of use and abuse, but as you can see from the photos, its held up both cosmetically and functionally. While I know and trust the Corsair name for many of my PC needs, my very positive experience with the K70 LUX really sparked my interest in trying out the new K70 Pro. I have used many keyboards over the years, with my 3 favorites now being the old tried and true Model M, the Logitech G15, and the Corsair K70 LUX. It also pays to note that while I tend to try out different keyboards all the time, my wife and kids are almost exclusively Razer uses, and while they too generally make good ... MoreThe longer version: Old K70 LUX vs. New K70 Pro! It also pays to note that while I tend to try out different keyboards all the time, my wife and kids are almost exclusively Razer uses, and while they too generally make good quality keyboards, none of them seemed to hold up as well of feel as good to me as this K70 LUX has, and Im not exactly gentle with them. I have always typed with a heavy hand and do far too much gaming, if there is such a thing. Now we have this new version of the K70, and while I obviously cant say if it will hold up as well as my LUX has, if it comes even close, it wouldnt be surprised. The first thing I immediately noticed about the K70 Pro is it feels almost identical to the LUX, just newer, and that makes sense. So, it was very easy for me to get used it quickly. A few other general features I like are keyboards with open designs, and while the K70 is not unique in this way, it does make it very easy to clean and maintain. Detachable cables are a huge plus in my book. Standardized keys and caps, making them easy to find and replace should the need ever arise. Lastly, the heavy duty construction. I like it when my keyboard feels substantial, not like cheap plastic or having a lot of flex. The K70s aluminum construction definitely does just that. There are some notable differences, some could argue their improvements, between the K70 RGB Pro and the older LUX. The most obvious being the Pro has a detachable USB cable, some of the buttons have been moved, and the USB pass-through port has been removed. The USB cable is also thinner and less rigid thanks to the fact it no longer has to carry extra wires, that was one of my few complaints about the LUX. The media keys are in the same position but are now raised higher off the deck to make them easier to access. The indicator lights are also now hidden behind the black plastic inset panel near the Corsair logo, making for a much cleaner design. Another notable design difference is the front of the keyboard and wrist rest. The rest is much larger than on the LUX, so it takes up more desk space, but works exactly as it should. If youre like me and either dont have the space for larger rests or just dont like them, the front part of the aluminum case is designed a bit differently as well. The LUX has an angled front end whereas the Pro is much more squared, personally, I much prefer the tapered front end design vs the squared off style if youre not going to use a rest, but thats a personal opinion. In most other respects, the Pro and LUX are nearly identical. The good build quality, aluminum deck, open design for easy cleaning and maintenance, excellent RGB back lighting, and so on. While it may take up a bit more room on your desk, moving from an older K70 to the Pro should be easy like it was for me. Overall, I can honestly say that I am pleased with the K70 Pro. Its a newer addition to a quality line of keyboards that has already earned fan. A step in the right direction in just about every aspect in my opinion. This one is an easy 5 Eggs for me.

This Corsair K70 Pro keyboard has an aluminum frame so its rock solid and the keys have the slight indent to let you know you are aligned on the keys. The Cherry MX mechanical keys have a nice springy responsiveness so when you hit the key there is no doubt its actuated. When I first started playing games on this keyboard I had to rethink some of my FPS moves because the keys would respond so fast that I would often over step my intended position. Driving got to be comical because I was oversteering by using the same techniques and pressures that I was using on the old keyboard. I can’t tell if it’s the Corsair’s AXON with Hyper processing which is supposed to be 4 times faster than other gaming keyboards or just the smooth actuation of these keys but one thing is certain this keyboard is comfortable and it responds. The only downside is that this keyboard does not have a USB pass through port nor does it have any dedicated macro buttons. My mouse and headphones are wireless so the lack of a USB port was not important to me. Using the profile Hotkey is not quite as convenient as dedicated macro buttons but it works well enough for me. Note also that this keyboard does not include FPS and MOBA textured keycap sets, all the keys have the same texture. Overall I am very happy with this keyboard which I use for gaming and work, its everything I was looking for in a keyboard. This keyboard is packed with features whether it’s for gaming or watching videos or just office work. To me the most important thing is whether the keys feel good and are easy to find without looking. When you are in the middle of a game the last thing you want to do is lose time trying to find the right key. For me the indents in the top of the keys, the keytop size and spacing just feel natural. Corsair gives you the ability to configure macros and/or reassign keys via the keyboard hardware or using the Corsair iCUE software. The hardware macros can be recorded on the fly and saved to function keys. There is a Profile Hotkey for selecting profiles and a Macro Record Indicator built into the keyboard. The software profiles are set up and controlled from within iCUE. You can set up to 50 different profiles with custom macros, actions and lighting effects. The profiles can be stored inside the keyboard’s memory so that you can quickly switch profiles without having to use the iCUE software. With the iCUE software you can configure the RGB color patterns down to the key or you can use one of the many already configured in the software. The ability to light down to the key allows you to highlight the keys you need for a specific tasks or games. You can also use the iCUE software to sync your lighting effects to other Corsair products. Corsair also includes a Windows lock key that disables the Windows key on the keyboard as well as a Tournament Switch on the back that disables all the custom profiles for competition play. The keyboard comes with a nice magnetic palm rest and like most keyboards you can adjust the height to meet your needs. Most keyboards come with media keys as does this one but Corsair ups the game by including a volume roller control, a quick turn and the volume is set. The volume roller is one of those items you never knew you needed until you get it and then it becomes a must have item. The keyboard attaches via a USB-C to USB-A six foot braided cable provided.

The Corsair K70 RGB Pro is my first Corsair product with RGB lighting - but not my first Corsair product! In fact, Corsair can blame themselves for it taking so long for me to try out their RGB - my PSU and CPU cooler have proven to be exceptionally well made and I haven't needed to replace them! Anyway, as a result I haven't used iCue before so I have now installed RGB lighting software from seemingly every major brand on my PC at some point. Physically, the K70 RGB Pro is a solid feeling keyboard with a brushed aluminum deck, PBT double-shot keys, and a pretty neat little volume roller on the upper right side (and actual media control keys below the volume roller). Build quality is very favorable vs some other major keyboard brands I have used over the last few years - in particular the PBT keys are a big upgrade from keyboards I've used that are priced much higher than this Corsair. Maybe Corsair is taking a look at the aftermarket and hobbyist keyboards because this is something so many people do to customize keyboards which come with ABS keys. My K70 RGB Pro has the MX Speed Silvers which are very clearly a "gaming" keyswitch - a reasonable amount of activation force but very minimal activation travel. I found this to be a very good balance even for regular productivity use - while it's not as pleasant to type on as a clicky "Blue" key, the Speed Silvers in the K70 RGB Pro are better than I expected for regular typing. For gaming, they are incredible! The low travel shaves time off each keypress allowing you to react very quickly in-game. Coupled with the insane polling rate (up to 8000 hz) you are getting the fastest reaction time possible out of a keyboard. I was concerned that the 8000 hz USB polling rate would be a CPU burden, but on a gaming PC with 5800H CPU the iCue software is using less CPU than a major competitor's software is for their RGB mouse mat. The RGB lighting of the K70 RGB Pro is absolutely insane and incredibly customizable. The built in effects are super cool (I suggest turning off the initial "scenes" and taking a look at the lighting tab to see some more effects) - the effects on offer are easily the best I've seen from any of the major gaming brands. For customization, you can create layers of different keys (like WASD or the numpad) which will have different lighting effects. My initial theme is using the "water color" effect as the bottom layer and the typing effect on top - when sitting there doing nothing, the water color effect plays. I might use the numpad for my audio visualizer, but I'm not sure yet - there are so many choices! Corsair certainly isn't alone in this kind of customizability, but I found iCue to be especially easy to use, and the keyboard itself must have some reasonable processing power under the hood because the per-key lighting animations seem to have a higher framerate than other keyboards I've used. It should really say something that when trying to record a video for this review, I was genuinely concerned that I needed to use 60 FPS recording to capture the effects properly - it really is impressive! Overall, definitely incredibly happy with this keyboard.
I've owned a significant number of gaming keyboards from various manufacturers over the years, and gradually moved on from them whether because the keycaps wore out, newer better technology came along, or I just liked the look or feel of something different. Because of that I was eager to get my hands on the Corsair K70 RGB Pro with the MX Speed switches. To start with, the packaging is a no frills cardboard box, it's well packaged, the keyboard itself and included wrist rest is wrapped in plastic and it has the cable. The cable is interesting though, as it's the first keyboard I've owned (that isn't wireless) that has a detachable cable. More than that, it's a USB-C to A cable, with the interface on the keyboard itself being type-c. It always makes me a little bit happy to see companies switching to type-c interfaces, so while it's not terribly critical on a wired keyboard, it's good to see it implemented across Corsair's more recent gaming accessory lineup (my recent purchase of the Corsair Dark Core RGB Pro also has a type-c interface). Now for installation and usage. Plugging it in, it just 'works' as any keyboard should. It has some built in lighting that cycles until you hit a button on the keyboard or load up the iCUE software to manage it (more on that in a minute). With each keyboard I move to, there's always a bit of time that it takes to adapt to what is different about the keyboard, whether using full size or chiclet keys, membrane, mechanical switches, type of switches and even size of the keyboard. I do have to say, moving from the slim mechanical gaming keyboard I had before this, to this keyboard has not been a smooth transition. The travel distance of the keys on this keyboard is noticeably further and takes more force to actuate than my previous keyboard. In addition, since these are linear CherryMX Speed Silver, there is no tactile bump when you actuate. Now, this isn't my first or even second keyboard with Cherry MX switches, but this switch is new to me. The keyboard has a muted thudding sound with each keystrike rather than the well know click of most mechanical keyboards, almost reminiscent of the old IBM AT keyboards that many people used back in the day (even before ps/2 for those of you that remember). Those keyboards were built to take a beating and were also mechanical because that's all they used back then. This keyboard has an equally solid build and really does feel like it'll take on the most punishing gaming sessions. Any issues I have with it currently really come down to user preference and again just that adaptation phase that any new keyboard takes, especially moving between a slim keyboard to a more full-size form factor. On the note of form factor, as I mentioned, this is a standard keyboard and it comes with the previously mentioned wrist rest. Now this wrist rest is different than any I've used in the past. First, I think this keyboard may rise off my desk a bit more than any keyboard (save for that AT keyboard I talked about), the wrist rest is really quite beefy and I needed it to feel comfortable with using the keyboard. If you rest your wristed on the desk when you type, you'll need it as well. But back to the design... It attaches to the keyboard with some very strong magnets. First I've seen of this type of design. It's build is equal to that of the keyboard itself rather than an afterthought like most wrist rests are, with a soft rubberized finish and definitely enough support. I really like it. The keys themselves are heavily textured, but it gives a good amount of traction to ensure your fingers are on the keys correctly every time. In gaming, the keyboard is responsive as expected. I've raided in WoW with it, played some Apex Legends and a bit of Overwatch, and I have found it to be precise and sensitive, though again I still am becoming accustomed to the difference from my previous keyboard. It touts itself has having 1000hz polling rate out of the box, with up to 8000hz configurable in software. I've gone ahead and cranked it to that 8000hz, and while I'm not sure if I can tell the difference between the 1000 and the 8000, it's there, so why not use it? Now for the software... The iCUE software has definitely been improved over my last experience with it, which is welcome, taking it from just a lighting management software to a fully fleshed out profile, gaming and accessory configuration management tool for all Corsair lighting and gaming devices. Here is where you'll configure your polling rate, even increase the debounce interval on the keyboard, and configure the lighting to your heart's desire. So what's not to like? Honestly? If I HAD to nitpick something, my only complaint is that the LED behind the Corsair sails at the top of the keyboard has a slightly different hue than the rest of the keyboard itself, but honestly, is that something to complain about? Really? It's not often I find a device as well built, customizable and thoughtfully laid out as this keyboard, from theCherry MX Speed Silver switches, type-c removable cable and magnetically attached wrist rest, to the crazy 8000hz polling rate, there's not much to complain about here. I would easily recommend this to anyone in the market for a truly elite gaming keyboard experience.
Corsair has been known for making some of the best accessories you can grab for your Gaming PC. Thus far, I’ve used their headsets almost exclusively for the past two years, use a desktop sized mouse pad, and have even used some of their previously released keyboards and mouse devices. The iCue software is fully featured for many of their devices, but this K70 Pro feels like a culmination of all the right features for this keyboard. In the box, you’ll find the K70 RGB Pro Keyboard, a braided premium USB C to A cable, a simple warranty card, and a wrist rest which attaches the keyboard easily using a magnetic attachment. In the box, you’ll find the K70 RGB Pro Keyboard, a braided premium USB C to A cable, a simple warranty card, and a wrist rest which attaches the keyboard easily using a magnetic attachment. You won’t necessarily need to install the iCue software right away to begin using this as a keyboard, but you’ll likely want to take advantage of profile settings, key assignments, and lighting configurations which require the use of the software. There was a quick firmware installation prompted by the iCUE software upon launch, and installed quickly. The default ripple lighting scheme used does a good job of showing off the individualized key lighting, as it waves across the keyboard. You’ll also find a toggle switch, near the USB connector to enable “Pro” mode, which allows for competition use. I don’t imagine many will take advantage of the Pro mode switch, but it’s a great addition for those who are in eSports style tournaments. Enabling pro mode makes the lighting shine Red across the entire keyboard. The keyboard is using Corsair’s “AXON” hyper processing technology, paired with speed silver keyswitches, for quick reliable response during gaming sessions. The keys themselves are easy to pull off, and just as easy to push back on. The casing is made of Aluminum, with larger rubber pads on the bottom for a nice grip on your desk, some flip out feet to add some tilt. There isn’t any flex of the keyboard when you’re using it, and the only noise you’re going to hear from this is the keys as you’re typing. There are some media keys in the upper right corner, with a responsive volume rocker, a mute button (with an indicator light), stop, skip, and play/pause buttons. On the upper left, you’ll see a profile button for toggling between profiles you’ve configured in the iCue app, a brightness toggle which dims the keys with about 5 different levels, and a lock button. There is also a 10 key on the right hand side for those that love using 10 keys for various productivity apps. If typing noise isn’t a problem, using the keyboard is satisfying, but might be a bit loud for those around you. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to enter any key presses, only requiring light presses with immediate results. You can individually set up lighting for each key with the iCue software, and can mirror the same style across your Corsair devices, and even enabled control of my Asus motherboard lighting. Holding the function key, and pressing any of the number 1-0 buttons above the QWERTY keys can cycle between lighting modes. Overall, this keyboard is pretty great! I found the key assignment profiles made it easy to customize profiles for various games, the individual key lighting made it easy to mark out my WASD and action keys for gaming, and the responsiveness of the keys were excellent throughout. If you’d like a fast responsive keyboard, want to upgrade a previous Corsair keyboard, or want that edge in gaming with various profiles, I’d say this is an easy buy recommendation. I absolutely LOVE this keyboard and would highly recommend this for anyone looking to have a reliable gaming experience. The iCUE software can be used to change the lighting effects, program macros, store profiles onboard, and even allows the ability to turn off the Windows key during gaming. The software is probably some of the best used for any gaming keyboards.
All in all, a great new keyboard that will replace my aging K70 LUX well. The K70 PRO has some really impressive features (especially for eSport competitors and aspirants) and is built to a high quality. Its a great gaming keyboard, everyday keyboard and everything in between, all the while looking gorgeous. Several reviewers mentioned some ringing from inside the case when typing hard and fast. I heard it also, although its not nearly as loud as I imagined from the review. It doesn't bother me and I don't notice it in every day use. (I'm not a super heavy touch typist.) That said, it is real and is a bit of a let down for an overall excellent piece of kit. As always the iCue software is getting continuous improvements and has lots of options for setting up the RGB. ... MoreAll in all, a great new keyboard that will replace my aging K70 LUX well. One of my favorite features is the ability to dynamically change colors according to the temperature sensors on your motherboard. Very cool. Pretty much a no brainer if you have other Corsair RGB stuff. Aside from a few minor issues this is a very nicely featured keyboard, and a worthy successor to the OG of mechanical gaming keyboards. Four eggs.
The first thing i noticed about this board was the great texture on all the keys and space bar, not grippy but not slippery. Corsair's website says this board has a two year warranty, you'll need to visit their site to get the operating manual and CUE software (to save macros, play around with led colors/effects); https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Gaming-Keyboards/RGB-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboards/K70-RGB-PRO-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/p/CH-9109414-NA#tab-downloads I could not get the QUE software to install on my preferred Win7 machine and found out after a quick chat with Corsair that QUE is only compatible with Win10. After moving this board to my Win10 machine QUE installed fine but i didn't get options to save macros/play with led colors and effects. A short while later a window popped up asking if i wanted to update the boards firmware, i updated (version v.1.2.18) and after a re-boot QUE was functioning. The QUE software is not very intuitive but there are tutorials within the software and i was able to figure features out without too much trouble. An added bonus of the QUE software is that it displays device temps/fan speeds. The font Corsair uses on this board took a bit to get used to but it was not a hard transition. I am enjoying this keyboard and turns out i prefer Cherry MX Brown switches (used on this board) over the reds I've been using for years. For anyone curious about Cherry switches and their specs; https://www.cherrymx.de/en/cherry-mx/mx-original/mx-brown.html
The K70 RGB Pro is a pretty solid keyboard, as gaming keyboards go. There are a lot of features packed in, some which I don't really use but have definite use cases. For example, there's a tournament switch which changes the backlighting and stops macros - I don't really play competitively, but if I did that would be a nice thing to have. There are some other features I definitely do use, however - I highly appreciate having dedicated media keys instead of that thing where the media keys are all stacked onto the F keys and a function key is needed to use one or the other. The palmrest on the bottom is nice to have and aesthetically pleasing, as well as practical - the fact that it's magnetic means it's very easy to take off and put away if you need to. The palmrest on the bottom is nice to have and aesthetically pleasing, as well as practical - the fact that it's magnetic means it's very easy to take off and put away if you need to. In fact, the whole keyboard is easy to disassemble for travel - the keyboard wire is actually a USB C cable that can be disconnected at both ends so you store it without breaking something. The fact that the keyboard has onboard memory seems kind of weird at first, but I do appreciate the fact that it means my lighting and macro profiles can be used without being logged into an account, *especially* when trying to play games when the internet connection is down. Hardcore gamers may like the fact that the polling rate can be adjusted, to make keypresses register as fast as possible. Again, as I don't play anything competitive, this doesn't really matter to me; however, the option is there if you need it, and is simple to access and adjust. If that's not something you're interested in, there's no need to worry about the setup process being a pain - it just kind of works out of the box. The hardest configuration I saw was actually setting up my RGB color scheme with iCUE, and that was mostly because I'm indecisive. However, it should be noted that iCUE can scale weirdly with some 4K screens. The good thing is, unlike other software that just runs off the screen, iCUE at least includes a scroll bar to be able to move through the window and see every configuration option without horrendous amounts of finagling with compatibility and DPI settings. There are some other fun little features as well. There's a Windows lock key, which while toggled disables the Windows key so accidental keypresses don't send to you to the start menu and disrupt your game. There's a profile key to cycle through your saved profiles, which is great if you connect the keyboard to a system without iCUE installed (such as a friend's computer or an Xbox). Holding the Windows lock key starts a macro recording process. The keys themselves feel very nice and seem to be high quality, and the keyboard body looks extremely good. One complaint I do have is that while the keyboard says it and iCUE are compatible with Mac, no Apple keycaps for the function keys are included and I'm not even sure if they sell them. While that may seem like a shallow complaint, I do game on a Mac from time to time and that would really be something nice to have. Additionally, considering that this is definitely a "premium" keyboard, it would be really nice if it was modular to allow the key switches to be replaced, but unless I'm missing something in the manual it doesn't appear to be. This is slightly disappointing, but not a dealbreaker. Overall, I feel like the K70 RGB Pro is definitely a solid keyboard that I would recommend, with most of the shortcomings being nitpicking.
I love this Corsair k70 low profile keyboard. I love the lights in this keyboard. There's so many different variations that you can use. It really adds to the experience if there's low light or at night time. And I use this for playing digital pinball games. I bet you didn't know that was a thing. I remember playing that back in the 70s and I loved playing pinball with my friends at the store. So I found a website that you can purchase these games. And you use the shift keys for your flippers and the control keys will nudge it. Well trust me I pound on these keys and it can take a beating. You don't have to do that in order to play these games but when I'm in the zone I accidentally do it all the time. Doesn't make the ball go any faster but of course when I'm in ... MoreI love this Corsair k70 low profile keyboard. I love the lights in this keyboard. Doesn't make the ball go any faster but of course when I'm in the zone I forget this isn't an actual pinball machine and I pound on the keys sometimes. That's why I know this keyboard can take a beating and still holds up with no problem. I have never cracked one of the keys on this. Now the old model they had a few years ago those keys cracked all the time. Not this one. They have redesigned this and this thing is sweet. And it has a control for the volume on this silver wheel at the top. And you can lock the keys with this button at the top that has a picture of a padlock so that while you're playing a game you don't accidentally hit the Windows key or something and screw up your game. I think this thing is definitely overpriced but at least you know you're going to be getting a really good keyboard that should last for a long time. It even has a USB on it for hooking something up to it like your mouse or a webcam?
