Best virtual assistant if you’re an apple fan! I’ve had and tried amazons Alexa and googles Home and when I say that both of those were the worst that I’ve ever used I mean it! Both of them have a deaf fit where you can scream at the top of your lungs for them and they will never turn on but the video ur watching is at 2 volume and it says hey David and it goes off. The only good thing about both of those were the apps the user interface was nice and the customizability was really nice. But what good are those if the thing can’t hear you half the time. This HomePod not only is it loud the sound quality is beautiful but it can hear you ALWAYS you can whisper you can yell you can even be downstairs and it upstairs and it will HEAR YOU. This HomePod not only is it loud the sound quality is beautiful but it can hear you ALWAYS you can whisper you can yell you can even be downstairs and it upstairs and it will HEAR YOU. It is extremely responsive to your questions to your demands to turning on and off smart devices. It is and should be the center of your home the base station because it works so well! And not only that but it is also very aesthetically pleasing it’s not terrible to look at whatsoever. It has nice features like if you have audio on your phone playing u can either just go to ur control center and put it on it, or my favorite way just walk up to it and hold ur phone above it and it connects instantly to your audio. I also really love how when you are playing audio on it and you get it’s attention it just lowers the audio while still playing it, it’s just a nice touch and seems seamless. It’s definitely the best virtual assistant around and should be your number one pick.

As a pair thye're plenty effective for TV and movies and sound fine for casual music listening. You get more bang for the buck in those product categories anyway. The intercom feature is neat but I live alone so pretty useless for me. for a bit of sound here and there I'd very much recommend these. As a primary device for truly listening I feel you'd be selling yourself and your music producers short. As a bedroom, kitchen, laundry, and maybe bathroom sound device it's a nice product. I'd have a pair in the bedroom and kitchen and singles in the laundry and bathroom. Firmware updating was uninformative and difficult to know what was happening. Once it had completed the udate the speakers worked nicely and reliably. I do recommend these (over the bigger version) for price, ease of placement, and fair enough quality.
On my first day after getting this device configured, which was not entirely smooth because of the need to deactivate Advanced Data Protection from my iCloud account (which I was aware of this issue, but it's been a year and I would hope they could figure out a better solution than turning that feature off and back on after the HomePod is added to my account), I was enjoying the device for the few things that I tested out. The sound quality was good, it could hear me from across the room, and it could access my phone's shortcuts (which is something the Apple TV is not able to do). The sound quality was good, it could hear me from across the room, and it could access my phone's shortcuts (which is something the Apple TV is not able to do). Since then, however, I've been growing less and less fond of the device behavior of Apple's smart speaker; and now I've gone from intending to get a second or third one to possibly removing this device from my home. Why has my opinion changed so drastically after only a few weeks of using this device? HomeKit. I have numerous smart devices connected to my network from lights, to Apple TVs, to AC units, and I've had the same experience with controlling them on all my devices up until now. The HomePod for whatever reason cannot seem to interact with my home in the same way. The first thing I noticed was with my kitchen light, which like most of my smart lights is derived from a smart switch instead of a smart bulb. And because of that, I have the device set as a Switch in my home with the name "kitchen lights" and have had no issues with that configuration. The HomePod mini, however, continues to tell me "The lamp is not responding, check the home app for more details." I could change the name to be more obscure but then I have to remember what I named each room's light because I soon realized they all* were experiencing this same issue when attempting to be controlled by the HomePod Mini. The solution turned out to be that I had to change these device from being identified as switches to being configured as lights, which is not a major inconvenience but it does seem to be a little peculiar since these lights are in fact smart switches. I didn't care too much though since they all do control lights, it seemed like a minor concession to make for the HomePod to recognize the device properly. Soon after resolving one problem with the way this device controlled my home, I quickly discovered another. With all my devices now updated from switches to lights, I attempted to activate a scene which I had named "light it up" and (as the name suggests) it is programmed to turn on every light in my house. And while this scene worked on every other device, and still worked on all other devices, my HomePod would now only turn on the light in my kitchen when given the scene name for turning on all the lights in the house. And I tested with a few other scene names which resulted in this same behavior. I did finally find a phrase that I was satisfied with as a name for this scene which didn't activate just the lights in the kitchen, but I'm essentially having to reprogram my entire house because of the way the HomePod interacts with HomeKit. All in all, it's been more frustrating than I expected, and solving one issue only seemed to result in another being caused. The HomeKit experience on HomePod is not the same as every other Apple Device you may be using, it's worse.
I had the homePod for a couple months and unfortunately it wasn't for me. I feel that for the price it simply does not compare to a amazon alexa or google home. It really does way less than what any of those two can do and on top of that they are both cheaper. Before this I had a google home mini that I received for free and it did much more than what the homepod could do. After I gave away my homePod I got an alexa and to this day have it and I can say the same. My biggest issue with the homepod was the fact that it really felt incapable of doing things a assistant usually should be able to do without the requirement of using your iphone. Whenever I would try to ask it a fairly simple question that it could pull from the web easily like an alexa or google home ... MoreI had the homePod for a couple months and unfortunately it wasn't for me. My biggest issue with the homepod was the fact that it really felt incapable of doing things a assistant usually should be able to do without the requirement of using your iphone. Whenever I would try to ask it a fairly simple question that it could pull from the web easily like an alexa or google home could it would always say something like "I found some results, would you like me to send them to your phone?" And yeah that is a great feature to have if I wanted to see the results on my phone but If I wanted that I really would've just picked up my phone and asked siri on there. It may just be my personal preference but I like it when the assistant can read out loud results for the question you ask them. Not force me to grab my phone to see them. I don't know if apple designed it like this on purpose or if there are people out there who prefer it to function like that but I don't really like it. It was the main reason I got rid of it. It really felt like it couldn't do anything I wanted it to. I know some people have a apple eco system that this device probably works very well to sync everything up together but if you plan on buying this thinking it's apple's version of the alexa I would suggest you take a good look at it or try it out first. It did not meet my expectations very well. I don't want to totally bash this thing, I do believe it is a good device for certain things and that there are probably good reasons to buy this device apple probably would've discontinued it if there wasn't. Since then I've gotten myself into ring security which was bought by amazon so I got kinda forced into the amazon eco system which Is why I bought an alexa. Overall the device has it's pros and cons like every other device but this one in particular has room for improvement. I would buy an alexa over this. (I gave it to my brother and I'm not sure what he thinks of it but I'll add some pictures of it.)
Long-time Apple user, love all of their products, but totally disappointed in this one. The parental controls on this are completely obtuse and inadequate. There is no option to filter content on the device itself (filtering has to be done through the primary user's account, which creates another problem--see below). I spoke with Apple customer support for over an hour about the issue and they confirmed the issues I describe below.I purchased two of these for my young children. We subscribe to Apple Music's family plan and they each have an iCloud account, so that I can manage the parental controls. We subscribe to Apple Music's family plan and they each have an iCloud account, so that I can manage the parental controls. What Apple doesn't tell you about the HomePod Mini is that the primary user of this HomePod Mini must have *their own* iPhone or iPad to set it up--my kids don't have these. I assumed I could set it up for them, but this is not the case, which Apple Customer Support confirmed. When I attempted to set it up for them, it automatically associated my iCloud account with the HomePod. The software appears to let you change this in the settings by signing out, and then signing in another user. This seems to almost work, but for whatever reason, the parental controls of the primary user (not my kids' accounts) still apply. So once I had my son signed in on the HomePod Mini, it recommended his music, but without any filters at all.I wasn't pleased with Apple playing the N-word on Christmas Eve for my 9 year old. Even when following Apple's own parental control structure and staying in their "ecosystem," we are unable to avoid this garbage for our kids. Apple seems to think the correct solution is that I buy each of my young kids a thousand dollar iPhone. Apple needs to think about how their products affect families and do better.
This is an absolutely wonderful and surprisingly powerful little speaker! It’s also absolutely packed with awesome features and it works so effortlessly and seamlessly with any Apple device. Setup literally takes less than 2 minutes; just hold your device near it and it’ll automatically register it. It also has the ability to control your entire smart home with Siri, as well as the ability to do all other features Siri can do. I absolutely love the cool colors they come in, and I also love that you can pair two of these together in one room to make a set of stereo speakers. It’s roughly the size of a softball, but it has the power and sound of a speaker triple it’s size. It also has 360° audio as well as the ability to play music in spatial audio from Apple Music. ... MoreThis is an absolutely wonderful and surprisingly powerful little speaker! And the price of it makes it an absolute bargain, making it very easy to have one for the entire family in each of their bedrooms, which also allows you to fully utilize the intercom function of HomePods, which is a super cool feature that works exactly like it sounds, acting as intercoms throughout the whole house to each speaker or to only certain speakers you choose, and you’re able to use this feature from your phone to communicate with someone at home on their HomePod. These are the absolute coolest smart speakers that also offer excellent sound quality and beautiful aesthetics and work flawlessly with Apple products, so it’s especially great for those who already have and own Apple products, but it’s also great for those without any Apple products as well.
