This is a marvellous programmable scientific calculator that you can learn to program in Casio BASIC language or the Micro Python language which has 3 basic modules. Its speed of execution is good. As a scientific calculator you can visually learn and insert how mathematics works. Financially its good at business calculations and has a spread sheet with dedicated functions . Its easy to save or import files via the Casio acting as a cool plug n play USB device to a PC. No software needed for the PC . You can play some of the games or cool utilities designed for the Casio FX-CG20 like a cool calendar scheduler and built in clock to remind you of time etc

Hey Casio, I love you. From watches, to keyboards, to calculators these guys make top notch affordable products. Fx-CG50 is 100$ while a texas instrument cost nearly twice as much, they have way more utility with multiple modes. I would recommend this and any Casio product to anyone.

I bought this to replace an aging CFX-9850GB Plus on my desk. I'm not a mathematician or anything, I just like the layout of these units since I used them a lot in school, plus the programming capability is fun. It's a really nice unit. The color screen and everything is great. Good build quality and pretty good button feel. It does all the typical graphing calculator stuff, as some cool additional add-ins if you like. Only problem is the newest OS update for the thing. (Yes it has OS updates lol). I strongly recommend you do not update to Ver. 3.80. It has a documented bug related to the menu and causes crashes. Simple enough to use. Nice colour screen, perfectly adequate size and decent quality resolution. Easier to work round than a class pad and absolutely excellent even for higher tier gcse 9 to 1 though probably not recommended for the exam room but great for classroom work. With a range of features, rechargeable batteries and a solid build, this has a good feel to it of reliability and functionality. Haven't explored it's full potential yet as I mail ly wanted a graphing calculator and so far I am very happy with the purchase. Processing speed is fast enough

Bought the version fx-CG50AU for my year 12 daughter. It turns out that AU version does not have Picture Plot, Geometry, 3D Graph. Tried to update the operating system, this does not help. Tried add-in, the option to import/export files is disabled. Not sure why those options are not automatically included in the operating system at the first place! and wonder why the AU version is different with from the generic fx-CG50 version! Please watch out, the AU version is not useful for students in Australia.
My daughter wanted a color graphing calculator. The choice was between the TI-84 Plus CE or the Casio fx-CG50. I purchased the fx-CG50. Not only was the fx-CG50 much less expensive than the TI-84 Plus CE, but the built-in natural display on the Home Screen uses textbook format so that it is easy to work with fractions and radicals. The full color screen makes it easy to recognize nested grouping symbols in expressions and analyze functions. You do not get an error message if you use the subtraction key to denote negative numbers, like on the TI-84. There is no need to learn special calculator syntax. It requires fewer keystrokes to perform some of the same tasks when analyzing functions, like finding roots or extrema, compared to the TI-84 Plus CE.
