Burley Transit 28 Litre Backpack For Travoy Bike Trailer

This bag deserves a review, though I ultimately returned it for another choice. At 28 liters, 2lbs 3 oz, and $150 it was larger, heavier, and pricier than most of the packs I was looking at, but it had some features I thought were amazingly useful. I’m switching from a messenger bag to a backpack, but most of the time while going from house to car or car to work site I’ll just carry it by the top loop, which is often flimsy (and probable uncomfortable) on most packs. I wouldn’t be using this as luggage, but for easily loading notebooks and work files this is a great feature. The front compartment has pockets and slots for writing instruments. While nearly all day packs are of a water resistant material, the Burley has tarpaulin on the bottom which can be wiped off – if you need to set it down on the ground or a damp bench there isn’t a damp spot when you put it back on your shoulders. The shoulder straps and sternum strap tuck into slots – would be very convenient when carrying it by the handles or putting under an airplane compartment, when the straps can get caught on things. The quality of manufacture and materials seemed very good. It is also part of an entire system, including a cart/trailer which can be pulled by a bicycle (check out the pictures at REI). It was also on sale when I bought it to try it out at home.The reason I decided to return it is that this pack is 15 inches wide and all the others are 11 – 12 inches wide. I don’t travel often (and prefer the train when possible) but when I fly this would be my carry on personal item with a laptop and book to read, which I would want to put under the seat in front of me rather than in the overhead bin, and a 15 inch width exceeded what some airlines recommend. This would be especially true when on a small commuter plane I think.I would recommend this as a daypack, bike commuter bag, and even an airplane carry on, with the caveat that it isn't the lightest of options and may not stow under a plane seat easily.

My go to bag for work commute, holds everything I need for the day with room to spare, very comfortable and appreciate the extra padding for fragile items.
