But I just figured Black Diamond had great customer service and would let me return it free of charge if it didn't exceed my needs. Turns out this light is pretty well built, and extremely bright, make sure to use with caution when others are around! I love how you can adjust the brightness however you want simply my holding the power button, and the 10 second powertap feature can be useful (although I don't think I'll be using it very much while skiing). My only deception was the singular battery, the description had my hooked with the interchangeable batteries but I forgot to check if it came with two batteries... and it doesn't although you can buy another ... I really like that the power tap feature goes to max for a bit and then fades back after 10 seconds to save battery. Even the level it fades to is super bright and great for most terrain, but it is nice to have the option to brighter for tricky terrain without having to worry about the battery.While I have not needed to change the battery mid run, it is super easy to switch batteries and the magnetic latch makes a satisfying click!
I thought this light might be too bulky or heavy with the extra weight of the battery. It is not! It’s great! Rides well on my head and a helmet. It is used to light up the rock for climbing or on the trail.
This headlamp is much more comfortable than the old style with the 4 double As. The brightness of the light is really impressive. I'm impressed so far.
This headlamp exceeded my expectations. I was a little hesitant about the weight, but it’s super comfy and feels great while using. I’ve used it for trail running and cycling and this thing is a beast. The medium brightness is solid, great for technical trail. The quick shot of the brighter version is great for short sections, dims back to medium brightness seamlessly. Battery pack is lighter than expected and comfortable on. Super user friendly and easy to switch out on the go. Battery life has matched what is advertised, seems to last about 6-8 hours on medium. The Distance 1500 is impressive. The beam pattern is so smooth and wide with no weird hotspots. I use this mountain biking a trail running at night without issue. The band is a little tight on my helmet but still fits on a XL Smith. It's really comfortable since the weight sits so low.

I'm used to high-end 800 lumen bicycle headlights and didn't want something barely worth using with poor battery life, so I splurged a bit on this new Distance 1500 model. Most headlamps still use outdated micro-USB charging, but this one has the newer and faster charging USB-C. Most headlamps also dim themselves automatically from their advertised brightness in a matter of minutes to save battery with the excuse that your eyes have adjusted to the darkness by then. No thanks. This one maintains constant brightness. The beam isn't so low that it shines in my dog's eyes unless I deliberately look down, and it shines so far ahead that it helps me ... Sometimes I tap the side of the light to activate the boosted 1500 lumen mode if I want to really light up the area. The red light on the battery pack in back is very bright and has two different flashing modes, a constant mode, or can simply be left off. I always keep it on to make sure drivers notice me. When the sun rises and I don't need the light anymore, I just slide it down around my neck, because it's a bit bulky to put in a pocket. I haven't needed to use the optional top strap yet.The straps fit my very large 64 cm head with a couple inches of adjustment to spare, but don't fit over my bulky XL bicycle helmet. I can wear it under the helmet, but then I can't have the helmet as far down on my forehead as I like. My only other complaint is that the front red light mode isn't bright enough to see very far ahead. The blue and green modes are a bit brighter than red, however.
It just arrived and looks fantastic upon unboxing. it feels solidly built and is not overly big. it felt comfortable. as for the instructions they are kind of confusing just like all black diamond instructions are. not really any english descriptions like you would read in an instruction manual instead more pictorial in nature. that made figuring out how to navigate between 15lm, 300lm, and 800lm difficult. but im impressed with its performance as so far. a more descriptive instruction manual would be better less pictures and more writing like a car manual. i cant what mode im in other than its ultra bright, bright, less bright and at the bottom of the dimmer (with everything in between) i would have thought that there would just be 3 modes (15lm, 300lm, and 800lm) ...
