It does, for the most part, spare you the hassle of vacuuming before moping, even when you have pets (we have 2 dogs, and one is a HEAVY shedder). It does remove 98% of small debris and hair (avoid large debris) and mops hard floors very well except for caked-in blotches. In fairness, that can be expected from ANY mop. I've tried may different things, including steam mops and spray mops -- but while they all do pick up some dirt, they also push it into the grout. I have been using a Hoover Floor Mate which at least sucks the dirt off the floor. But everything I've tried still leaves a light grey grunge on the tile.I had hoped the HydroSteam would solve the problem. In January, I slipped and fell in a patch of mud outside my home. Breaking my ankle in three places and dislocating it as well, left me in a wheelchair. I am without the use of my right leg, as during the healing it is non-weight bearing.That said, I had to get up and do something in the house as I was having some issues with sitting all day, doing nothing. Trying to not get sucked into the now viral âotherâ wet dry vacuum, I chose a name I knew and trusted in the Bissell Crosswave Hydrosteam. Iâm beyond pleased with this wet dry vacuum! Why? My floors are clean - weâre talking white paper towel clean! Not only are they clean but they now stay clean longer because it actually sucked up the dirty water instead of pushing it around to clean again a couple days later. I mop on a schedule. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I use the Bissell Crosswave Hydrosteam in three different zones of my home. This saves me a lot of running back and forth to empty the dirty water container and fill the clean water bottle. I also like the cord more than I thought I would because I never have to worry about its charge lasting until the end of my clean. The cord is heavy duty and quite long so I only end up moving it once or twice depending on where Iâm cleaning. I do not clean with cleaners that have strong smells due to an asthmatic family member in my home. Instead, I fill my cleaner water bottle with mostly warm water, half the cleaner amount of concentrated food grade hydrogen peroxide, and one tiny DROP of dish soap. It leaves no streaks or bubbly soap residue. Also, I only use the steam function on my tile floors. Again, I donât think steaming would be wise with my engineered hardwood floors but the regular mop function is perfect. One of the top features of the Crosswave Hydrosteam for me is the self cleaning feature. I have experienced no issues of smell mentioned in other reviews and I believe itâs because of how I clean it. After mopping, I rinse out the dirty water container and then fill my clean water bottle with warm water and a small amount of the concentrated hydrogen peroxide. I run the clean cycle through twice and empty the dirty water container. If the water is dirty, I lift the vacuum off the tray, reattach the dirty water container and run it twice more which is only about thirty seconds each cycle. By this time, my dirty water container contains clean water (I would repeat if it didnât). I then rinse out the container and filter, empty the clean water bottle, remove the brush cover and rinse it and then put them on a towel to dry for the day. Next, I pull out the now mostly dry brush (from spinning), inspect it for any debris, and put it in the round holder on the tray to continue drying. I then wipe down the vacuum of any debris and Iâm done. This takes maybe five minutes. With the spin mop, I was also cleaning the bucket and mop head and if I dared to put the mop head in the washer it never failed that someone would come along before I could retrieve it, do a load of laundry (I have almost grown children) and throw that mop head in the dryer making it almost useless. Troubleshooting: One note about removing the brush cover. The brush cover must go back on a certain way or the steam function will not work. First the front with the arrows must be placed down into position and then pushed back over the top of the brush until it clicks into place. If your Hydrosteam is not steaming, check the brush cover. Sometimes the vacuum will make that high pitched sound if I lift it up or push it too far out in front of me and the suction leaves the floor. This sound usually means that your dirty water container is full but it will also do this if it loses suction. The way to reset it is to turn it off and unplug it. In this case, itâs user error so it doesnât bother me. I highly recommend this vacuum and am so pleased with my clean floors. This chore is still one of the worst but at least I have the satisfaction of clean floors when Iâm finished.
This is my second crosswave not because anything was wrong but because my adult kids borrowed my first and kept it! With a dog, frequent guests and a house that is near a busy street our floors need an occasional deeper clean in addition to regular cleanings and this is just the product for it. While it doesn't compare with hiring a professional company, it does QUITE an amazing job.I love that it is lightweight enough for me to handle and relatively compact. I wish the stand had spots for all of the attachments/rollers but ended up buying a storage box to hold the solutions, extra rollers and extra filters. It's not recommended but hasn't failed me yet!I purchased the cordless one for a small vacation home but in hindsight love the corded one because the cord is long enough that you don't find yourself having to plug and unplug constantly and you aren't ever waiting for a charge.While I am writing this review because I read reviews before purchasing items, I am also entering a #sweepstakes Don't let that dissuade you, this is a worthy purchase!
We bought this steamer as a replacement for another Bissell steamer that we can no longer get supplies for (SteamBoost, I believe it was called) We have so far mostly used in our bedroom in the basement, as we have two huskies there as well. Having rainy weather lately has allowed us to see how it really works.First off, make sure you sweep the floor. It takes about 30 seconds for it to start steaming when that option is selected. Pretty reasonable time.Cleaning is pretty simple. Hold the trigger down to release the steam and cleaner. The spin brush scrubs the floor and vacuums up the excess into the dirty water container. The first time I used it on the cleaner only option, it picked up a bit. When I used it on the steamer option for the first time, it sucked up soooooo much dirt. The bottom of the dirty water collected looked very dirty, and in fact has about a 1\4 of dirt in the bottom. It also collected dog hair I missed.The dirty water container is easy to empty. There is a separate plastic tray you can pull out and clean that collects the solid items. The container is also very easy to clean up. It's very open, so all you need is hot water and down the drain it goes.You should also clean the roller after each use. They have a special cleaner that is included with the unit, which should last you about 3-4 uses. Before you empty the dirty water, you will want to run this cycle, so you only need to empty the dirty water once. Just pour the cleaner in the tray, set the steamer in the tray, then press the button, and in about 30 seconds, you will have a clean roller. There is also a slot on the tray you put the roller to dry after this cycle is completed. The roller comes out easily.So far, this has been a great addition to our cleaning tools. We have a Spinwave that is used on a separate floor, and they can use the same solution, which is very convenient. This Crosswave does it's job and gets my floors cleaned.
I donât love it but I donât hate it. First off it took a while to get it to start working, I did everything the instructions said to set it up but it wouldnât spray the liquid when I held the button. I tried brushing any particles that could be in the way from the 2 little holes but nothing. After a while of continuing to try using it and holding down the button, it finally started spraying all of a sudden. I have no idea what it was that didnât work before.A very annoying aspect of this machine is that sometimes it doesnât pick the water back up so it leaves my floors very wet, even after I stop dispensing the solution, it continues and doesnât suck it back up. Also I bought this to save time and energy rather than sweeping then mopping but actually this takes just as long or longer because of all the adjustments you have to make while using it and it works best when you move it slowly across your floor. Honestly I wanted to return it but I went past the return date by a week, so itâs too late for me.
