You literally just plug this into a USB port, connect to an amplifier, or plug in the cans and voila! The thing just works. It's surprisingly small, but gives a punch to your music that's hard to believe. MP3 and WAV files sound like vinyl. Flac files.. you're there! I've had it for 2 weeks, it is broken in with about 100 hrs. and yes, burn in DOES make a differrence. Simple, but does the job absolutely perfectly. I've paired mine with an Yamaha AX497 amplifier, ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 speakers and have zero complaints! My Sennheiser HD 25 headphones sound great through it also with volume to spare.
