It was easy enough to set up, transfer files from a different external drive through the front USB port, and start using it remotely and as a local network drive.

Totally fake. You will receive a 5$ band instead of a NAS asustor. It is difficult to get refund and you have to prove that it is the wrong item.

I had no problems transferring my drives from an AS602. The drives were recognized and updating the necessary names was easy

I purchased this unit since the Asustor website NAS selector page indicated that it has support for btrfs snapshots. Their product page also mentions snapshots (although it mentions them in relationship to iSCSI volumes - which at this point may or may not be true. I have no idea)I need btrfs snapshots for protection against ransomware (a very serious threat, especially since Asustor systems were targeted by the DeadBolt ransomware). I liked the idea of this product because of the advertised btrfs support and the fact that it had a 2.5 GBe port on the back (vs. Synology still being stuck at 1 GBe).But when I received the unit I quickly learned that it does not support btrfs for the internal volumes. Since that is the primary use case for this machine (vs. attaching iSCSI volumes) I had to send it back.It might be a perfectly good system as far the rest of it is concerned, but for my use case (which the website indicated was a supported use case) it was useless.I now have a Synology DS223 on order for the exact same price. I lose 2GBe but gain a faster, newer processor and btrfs support. Not to mention the more mature Synology ecosystem.B&H were very helpful in all of this.
I selected this device because of good reviews I'd seen, and thought it would be easier to use than the similar Synology. Upon setup I could not find the device on my network. After attaching it directly to the Mac, I could find it, but it could not reach the internet. Transferring files also kept stopping incomplete. Couldn't get any help from Asus without registering the device, and all the self help info. was a bunch of QR codes. I had some success skipping all the Asus software and just using the Mac Finder, but this also got hung up. If you're going to go with NAS, recommend you know your networking, and also that your primary network is wired Ethernet. Be prepared for tinkering and troubleshooting. If that's not your bag, stick with a direct attached RAID. ... MoreI selected this device because of good reviews I'd seen, and thought it would be easier to use than the similar Synology. I recently purchased this Asustor and installed two 20TB drives in RAID 1 to replace 2 RAID boxes that I was using to store large digital files. I wish I would have bought this box a year ago when I bought the 2 RAID boxes, but couldn't at the time. Installation was easy, and there are PLENTY of Youtube vids that guide you through basic and advanced setup. Since it has 3 USB 3.0 ports, I plugged in the 2 existing RAID boxes to use as backup destinations for the files I transferred to the Asustor. This box is AWESOME!!! I HIGHLY recommend it!!!
KEY POINTS:1 – VERSITALITY: USE WHATEVER SIZE HDD OR SSD, RAID 1 IS STANDARD..(RAID 0 WILL GIVE YOU FULL DISK SPACE, BUT ZERO BACKUP...YOUR CHOICE)2 – COMPATABILITY: IN-HOUSE APPS BUILT IN; PLEX, PYTHON, ETC….3 - ADAPTABILITY: SET IT TO ‘SLEEP”, OFF-PEAK PROCESSING, ETCSMALL FOOTPRINT...HARDLY NOTICABLE…VERY, VERY QUIET!
