I have tried everything. Started with over 4 hours on the phone with Bell. Separating the internet 2.4 and 5, ordering and placing 4 Bell pods around my house. Still didn't work. Next came the mesh extender.. worked for maybe 2 days but with so many people at home it would just not workTHEN !!I ordered the ASUS CT8. ZenWifi. I first tried it with the Router only without the second extender. My internet speeds in all parts of my house were better than I have ever had before. I hooked up the second one and tried outside on our patio where we have never received ANY reception in the past. When I checked the speed on our outside patio it was just as fast as indoors.I would not hesitate to recommend this product. It really is amazing

I have had several routers over the years and had nothing but problems with them. After many reviews and searches I decided on the Asus ZenWifi /AC Mesh system. I was simply amazed at how easy the setup was and how user friendly the Asus app was. We have several computers and many smart devices that are used every day and the system is working flawlessly. I am having performance like I had only dreamed possible. I would highly recommend this system to anyone looking for a new system or upgrading an old one. One of the best purchases I have ever made.

Easy install. Great coverage.

Can enable guest WiFi by voice command- IPTV-friendly- small and lightweight power adapter cube with velcro cable ties- very decent value for what you get In terms of features and performance- 2 year warrantyCONS:- too many settings can make be problematic through user error- app looks amazing visually but feels unfinished; some settings don’t seem to work as intended Or at all, like disabling the dedicated wireless backhaul doesn’t disable it- wireless backhaul can be slow if routers are more than 15 feet apart and if there is more than one wall between the two nodes- app controls all routers as if they were one, so you can’t change settings on individual routers in the systemREVIEW:Spoiler alert... I am absolutely in love with this system. I was at first unsure about the whole “mesh WiFi ” idea, and I had tried a couple of systems that didn’t live up to my expectations and was about to go back to my trusty AirPort Extreme when I happened to come across the ASUS ZenWiFi CT8 whole-home mesh wifi system. Now I will admit it was purely the design of these things that I fell in love with first, followed by its impressive list of features and some pretty impressive specifications.Just looking at the box this system comes in, you just know you’re getting a quality item inside. The box itself is simply gorgeous... I’d actually be sad to throw it away. Inside, I was greeted by two identical routers, well-protected in form-fitted egg crate packaging. Interestingly there was no manual included, and none could be found online either, although the interface is familiar if you know Asus routers and their awesome User-friendly firmware. The power adapters are very small and light, and resemble iPad chargers. The Velcro strap that’s on the power cable to keep it tidy is a nice touch. These routers are gorgeous. I really love the look of the sleek black finish with the brushed-metal texture. Picking one of the units up, I was impressed with the weight of it. Shining a light inside the vents I could see some substantial metal heatsinks inside, which gives the product some good heft. And the silicone base covers the entire bottom of the unit, keeping it firmly in place and safe from sliding or tipping over. The air vents are attractive and well-designed for maximum air flow to keep these powerful routers cool.Setting up the system was very straightforward and only took about 10 minutes to get fully up and running. You have the option to set the system up either through a web browser interface, or the Asus Router App with your iOS or Android device. I tried both methods and although they look slightly different visually, both methods accomplished the same result. Basically they’ve made the setup process almost automatic, only prompting you to enter a user name and password and an SSID.I appreciated that they’ve included option to split my WiFi network into three SSIDs so I can control which devices connect to my 2.4ghz band and which would be better served by the faster 5ghz bands.Once everything was all set, I was stunned at the speeds of the wireless backhaul. When I tried a speed test with the units about 20 feet apart I reached speeds of around 350Mbps which I thought was quite impressive. But I have Ethernet cables running throughout the home so I was able to connect them hard wired to get the full speed I pay for from my ISP which is 600mbps. I get this speed all over my house and yard and I love that my phone signal never gets dropped as I move from one point to another. The aiMesh roaming capabilities are impressive and seems to work flawlessly, almost always keeping me on the closest node giving me the best experience possible. Even with around 35 devices on my network, both wired and wireless, I just can’t seem to trip up this system at all. I even tried streaming high definition AND 4K video on every display in the house simultaneously - 11 video streams - and still couldn’t break the ZenWiFi. It didn’t even buffer the videos at all, and there was no degradation or skipping of the picture whatsoever. I was very impressed with this system’s overall performance.I actually loved this system so much that I felt confident enough to purchase the wifi 6 version of the ZenWiFi to extend my coverage and capabilities even more.Who is this system for?I think this system would be perfect for homeowners or small business owners who are looking for a truly set-it-and-forget-it Home Networking experience while still having the advanced configuration options power users need. It’s also a great system for those who need the flexibility to add to their system as their WiFi requirements grow. And if you’re looking for a mesh WiFi system that delivers your true maximum internet speed pretty consistently, then this system is for you. (Mine is 600mbps and I often get 650 on WiFi.) And since you are getting two identical powerful routers in one box, you’re getting excellent value for your money as well. I think ASUS has hit it out of the park with the ZenWiFi system. And with the two year warranty, I expect these to provide years of trouble-free WiFi.I hope you enjoyed my review and found it helpful!

Excellent product
23 June 2021

My house is long and narrow, over four levels, so the wifi signal wasn't great. Once I bought this ASUS, it's problem solved! Set up was easy. We could run multiple video conferences and games simultaneously. Better yet, I found out my 2007 house has phone lines wired using Cat 5E cabling so it was easy to terminate with RJ45 connectors. Now the cable modem and NAS drives live in the basement, and I use ethernet as wired backhaul for both ASUS. (Those ports on the routers are very useful.) That has improved the performance even more. The ASUS app is easy to use with plenty of functions for monitoring and control. I read lots of product reviews and they all recommended the ASUS. I'm very impressed.

Finally...provides coverage where others did not

My apartment is long with many obstacles, and all previous wifi solutions (single routers and wifi extenders) never achieved enough signal strength to provide high throughput from one end to the other. To even get close to the LAN transfer speeds I wanted, I had resorted to powerline networking which had its own problems. Mesh wifi gave me hope, but I held out until the price dropped and features went up. I bought this Asus CT8 2-pack because of positive reviews and its dedicated 5GHz backhaul channel that does not compromise router-to-device speeds. And it works: This is the first wifi system that covers all the areas of my home that were formerly notorious dead spots for reception, with speeds that meet or beat what powerline could do. And it works: This is the first wifi system that covers all the areas of my home that were formerly notorious dead spots for reception, with speeds that meet or beat what powerline could do. I was able to disconnect multiple powerline devices, bridges, and switches and free up their power outlets, because just these two Asus units cover it all now with fast pure wifi. I have been using home wifi routers of various brands for 20 years , so for me this was extremely easy to set up, even though it was my first wifi mesh system. I manage it either through a web browser on my Mac, or using the Asus Router app for iOS. Of course, the web browser admin pages provide the most options, but the apps are useful for simple monitoring of network and device status. I cannot say whether this is the best mesh system, because it is the only mesh system that I've used. But for me it is proof that a well-designed mesh system is superior to the router-only or wifi-extender solutions of the past. Nothing else I've used has been this good or this fast!

Great Mesh Router
24 July 2024

I bought a CT9 2-pack to replace an older Orbi mesh router. I really liked the Orbi, but felt they are a bit over-priced, so thought I would give ASUS a try. A breeze to setup. Smaller than I thought, which is good. I also like that it came in black, which blends in a bit better. So far, no problems reaching all parts of my 3 floor house with tons of devices attached. Happy with my decision!

Although my house isn't large, the layout is not helpful to a typical WiFi layout. I had a typical Verizon Gateway WiFi router in the basement where all the network connections are made and an access point on the other end of the house. This gave pretty good coverage but often moving from one side of the house to the other caused a drop in coverage since the connected WiFi boxes didn't do a clean handoff and would cause a device to freeze. More devices on the network caused more issues. I had looked at a few of the solutions and noticed that the Asus ZenWiFi AC had a few really nice features. More devices on the network caused more issues. I had looked at a few of the solutions and noticed that the Asus ZenWiFi AC had a few really nice features. The main one was multiple hardwire WAN ports and the ability to hardwire the back haul. I built the house 20+ years ago and had the foresight to add LAN connections to the bedrooms so the ability to use one of these connections for going back to the main router and leaving the wireless signal for devices was great. Also the additional WAN ports allowed me to hardwire up to 3 devices directly to the satellite and this would act as a 1GB switch; perfect. The 3rd thing I liked was that the 2 boxes were identical meaning that the brains of the units were the same so the satellite unit has the same router processing as the main router unit. Because I have Verizon FiOS there is a need to keep the original Verizon supplied router for the TV to work. This is a simple fix by making the main Asus box an access point and just plugging it into the FIOS router. This simple connection method allows all my wireless devices to seamlessly connect to any hardwired machine. Overall I couldn't be happier. I got really strong signals across the house, upload and download speed tests on my phone show connections close to the actual hardwired speeds, and setup is simple. I've had this unit for about 3 weeks and no problems at all.

[Rewarded Review] Solid Router with Foolproof Setup Process

Two things about this router, first one is its foolproof setup. I plugged them in, set one on my desk, the main router in its place. The thing is I didn't quite get the power fully connected, it was loose. The power came off partway through the setup. The unit needed to restart. I thought I'd need to reset to factory and begin again. Much to my pleasant surprise, the setup program just waited for it to return and finished without errors.
