I bought the ASUS RT-AX1800S WiFi router because I needed to replace a system that my cable company gave me that really didn't work for my needs. While I thought the system should have been pretty quick to setup - after all the routers I have gone through from my cable company easily being provisioned and setup within 5 minutes - I was surprised that this router took a bit longer to get setup. Overall though, the system is working and giving me the results I want

I bought two of these routers specifically to setup an AiMesh system at our Homestead. So far the product has worked amazingly well. If you need a whole home mesh network I would look into buying a couple of theseAlso; I am writing the review for a 90 day warranty extension but I doubt I will need it.

This wireless router was a replacement for my previous ASUS router. I used to have a repeater in my upstairs bedroom to improve the signal. I don’t need it anymore. Wireless speed and signal are better with this unit. I have a two bedroom townhouse and this single wireless router is perfect. I have no need for mesh and 4K streaming is stable at the farthest location. Don’t get an expensive mesh system buy two of these and you get mesh for half the price.

Setup seemed cumbersome. Wanted to use this as an access point for wired and wireless devices. Couldn't set it up that way.Eventually got there, but then was unable to connect to the router for settings etc. Asus tech support advised that a software bug prevents access to the router in access point mode. Connected devices to the network, but couldn't connect to the router itself.Except for that fatal flaw, seemed like a good device and good value (2 year warranty, good tech support).
This router is working great of what I bought it for, extending my RT-AX86U network with AiMesh. The trick is you have to set it up as a main router first and then access the settings to make it a node.If you don't do this first it will not be detected by your main ASUS router. I spent a lot of time trying to make it work and ended up calling ASUS customer support. After going through set up as a router I could then access the settings to make it a node. Then connecting my RT-AX86U back up as my main router it immediately could see the RT-AX1800S node and set it for AiMesh. Otherwise you will spend several frustrating hours trying to get AiMesh to work. For the short while I had it set up as a router it seemed to work great and my 40+ IOT devices connected to it ... I have used this router for about a week in my house and have enjoyed the increase in our wifi reach. Having our original router/modem combo in one corner of our first floor. I have noticed I would have dead spots on the second floor in the basement on the opposite side of the house. Wifi speeds would slow to a halt. It made it very difficult to use some of our different devices on this.Setting up the router was a little nerve racking and required some googling to double check as I was working through it. However, once I was able to get it up and running, I felt good with the work of it. My wife has noticed the speed upstairs and for her in the basement. All in all, I am happy with this router, although it took a little time to get it all set up, I was happy with ... The RT-AX1800S is a cut down version of the AX1800 (RT-AX55) with a cut down processor (dual-core vs quad-core), but beyond that they are largely similar. Neither includes any smart connect feature that directs devices to the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band, instead it will just provide both bands.Overall setup is very straightforward and connection speeds are likely better than the router-modem combo provided by any ISP.The issue, which caused me to return it, is that the antenna position strongly influenced the 5GHz signal. This was to such an extent that if they were vertical the signal would drop completely, but horizontal antennas gave a good connection (very strange). The product also suffers from being in the middle of the router value. It's more expensive than a ... The product also suffers from being in the middle of the router value. It's more expensive than a cheap $40 AC router without many advantages beyond Wifi6 and AX, but lacks features that come with just $30 more (AX3000, smart connect, easy firmware updates, etc.). I'm usually very happy with the quality of Asus products, but this one seems to be a miss.I replaced mine with a TP-Link AX55 (AX3000).
The ASUS RT-AX1800S is a solid router for most household's needs. It is also very affordable, which is a great bonus! It offers both a 2.4ghz and a 5ghz bands, which is great for homes with a lot of smart devices (they tend to require the 2.4ghz band). The signal for that band is also pretty strong, able to hit areas throughout my house without much trouble. The 5ghz does well for streaming, as long as the router is near your device. I lose connectivity pretty quickly if I am on my back porch, or if I am in a room furthest away from my router. The signal is great in the same room as the router, but it's not as practical for my needs. It also includes 4 lan ports in the back - we have several PCs and a server in our room with the router, so being able to connect all ... The connection via the ports have worked well.Overall, I think this is a good router for the price and needs for most people. It is not the best for our specific household needs, but for the price and ease of use, it remains a solid option.
Went from old Netgear router to this. No more ping drop and works great. Only reason why I’m taking away a star is because when I update the firmware via the app, it attempts to do it, but the update never gets completed and the app keeps giving me a notification to update the firmware.Seems like an app issue rather than a router issue, but since I control everything I do with the router via the app, I would love for this to be resolved.
I bought this router and upon opening the box, 1 antenna was broken, another had a hairline crack. staples refuse to take care of it, pointing me to asus warranty. when i talked to asus, they pointed me back to staples. i shouldn't be caught in the middle having bought a defective product. there's an implied warranty of merchantability and neither company is holding their end of the bargain.
