Wow, what an utterly useless device. Where do I start....cant do anything without going through my personal cell phone. Can't add the ring app which is the only reason we got it, Alexa seems like she doesn't understand english...I literally work with tech for a living and could NOT figure this POS out. Had to add the Alexa app to my phone just to do a factory reset on the device. Seems like just a way for Amazon to get access to my phone, we are sending back before I chuck this POS out of the window. Oh, almost forgot...it's also really slow and glitchy

Bunnings took a long time sending this. Although they gave no indication it was not in stock I had to wait for weeks until more stock was available. As far as the Echo Show 8 goes, it works OK, but Alexa needs to improve a lot. It does tend to muddle some words up often. It gives inaccurate temperature readings for my area giving me readings for a area 40km away. She actually does not seem to know my suburb at all. She seems to rely on BOM for weather which is inaccurate for my area. There are many things she cannot do such as be paired to my own personal weather station on weather underground. Alexa also has trouble connecting to my fitbit often. I love the "calm my dog" which soothes my dog if Alexa hears him barking. The quizes and trivia games are entertaining. ... MoreBunnings took a long time sending this. Programming skills into her is time consuming and can be confusing. They need to work on Alexa by simply adding a function much like how a universal remote control works, or users are forced to buy new appliances such as new TVs, new stereos, new dvd players, etc...She works well with my video door bell and security cameras, but she does not work with all brands so users do need to do their research first about this.Alexa needs to be able to be given a new name decided by the owner instead of just a few optional names already predetermined in her list, as my parrot is starting to learn the name "Alexa" i'd rather name her somthing my parrot cant pronounce!

Mundane tasks have become anything but when I ask Alexa to read a standard Kindle book allowing me to multitask and rapidly get through my "To Be Read" lists. I am now part of the Smart Home revolution and never realised what l was missing!!

Nice large & clear display, the Audio is really clear & goes very loud without distortion, but Alexa still manages to misunderstand or totally ignore me some of the time. But that's down to Alexa in general and not specific devices. It integrates with other devices easily and we control our heating and lights & Ring Doorbell with it.Some minor gripes is that it doesn't always automatically display the front door ring camera when someone rings the bell. Also when you ask it to display the front door camera it displays it in a window and not full screen which you have to manually resize. Also It would be nice if you could choose different clock faces
I love this this thing. It basically just looks like a clock or ipad or photo display or all three but it comes with alexa and all her glorious usefulness. Then theres netflix, i had the ordinary no screen alexa before this and so obviously you wouldn’t be watching Netflix on it, but this is perfect for that and it’s something i do a lot so its quite important to me, it frees up my phone for whatever else while giving me a decent screen and surprisingly good audio. Another plus i think is worth mentioning is the clock, while I’m kind of irritated that i can’t make the clock display full-screen (it sits in the bottom left and takes about 1/4 of the screen space) i DO love that when I’m in a dark room trying to sleep, it dims to JUST readable, i can’t stand excessive ... MoreI love this this thing. This one uses ambient light detection very well and dims the background leaving JUST the digits visible which are lit JUST enough to make out in the dark. This alone to me is worth a LOT.
I am very excited to use the Amazon Echo - Show (2nd Generation). Alternatively, you can ask Alexa to play Amazon Music, Apple Music, or Spotify.Use Amazon Photos to turn your home screen into a digital frame and exhibit your memories. Your favorite images will appear amazing in any light thanks to the adaptive color.Amazon is not in the business of selling your personal information to outsiders, thus this feature was created to preserve your privacy. Multiple layers of privacy protections, such as a mic/camera off button and a built-in camera shutter, are included.I also got a smart plug and a whole installation design module as well.
The Amazon Echo Show 8 is a good smart home device in terms of hardware and decent in terms of software. It is a solid improvement from its Amazon predecessors. I was impressed by the packaging and it was obviously well thought out. There was minimal plastic, no foam and mostly recyclable cardboard. The handles to pull out the cardboard containing the Echo Show were clever, simple and so useful.Hardware: I really wanted a smart home device with a screen because sometimes visuals are useful when asking Alexa questions or just to see the time. The screen is sharp and clear. The physical privacy camera shutter was a surprising and helpful feature that I wish more products had (much better than using a piece of tape or a sticker over the lens as I usually do). The screen is sharp and clear. The physical privacy camera shutter was a surprising and helpful feature that I wish more products had (much better than using a piece of tape or a sticker over the lens as I usually do). The shape of the Echo Show makes it very solid and steady on flat surfaces. You can type the touch screen without having it move or tip over. The size of the screen is perfect for the kitchen as a central smart home command center. The speakers were well balanced and clear. Aside from the mismatched wire, the black version of this device is modern, clean and nice looking.Software: The Alexa/Echo software is smart but not exactly genius. There are a lot of great functions and it is a great way to get answers hands free. I found a lot of instances where Alexa couldn’t answer my question (even simple ones) or pull up mediocre results/sources. I liked that Alexa was able to translate into Cantonese and was pleasantly surprised since it is not a commonly included language. There is an issue that it takes a min for images to appear on the video chat after connecting (pixelated picture until it clears up). I am sure this will be updated on the next software update. I found set up to be pretty easy and quick after the app was downloaded on my phone. I was able to connect it to my existing smart lightning system and to add on additional smart plugs. I do find it frustrating that some smart products will not work with the Echo and some are only compatible with the Amazon Alexa system even though they could easily add the functionality into the software. This however is an industry wide issue and not specific to this device.Overall, if you are looking for an Amazon Alexa smart home device with a screen, I think the Echo Show 8 (Second Generation) is a good choice.
Before you get an Echo Show, you need to figure out how you plan to use it. Echo Show is not a tablet or a replacement for a tablet. So, if you are looking to search, browse, email, etc., get a tablet, chromebook, laptop, etc. If you want an assistant to keep you company and answer questions, pull up recipes, play music, provide weather forecasts, make hands free phone/video calls, the Echo Show will work well. The Echo Show is an Amazon product and therefore works best with Amazon services such as Amazon Music, Amazon Video, etc. There are plenty of options for music streaming including Amazon Music, Tidal, Spotify, etc. Video streaming options are limited but include popular ones such as Amazon Video, Netflix, Hulu, etc. While Youtube content can be viewed, it is ... MoreBefore you get an Echo Show, you need to figure out how you plan to use it. Not sure if other video streaming sites can also be played through the Silk brower. I tried a couple of sites and they seemed to work. So, you need to understand what the Echo Show does well to help you have an excellent experience. The Echo show is well designed and not bulky. The screen is sharp, the sound is good and loud and video calls work great. Basic setup is quite simply and easy but for additional features and customization, you need to download the Alexa app (Android version for me), and setup an Amazon account. Interestingly the black unit I have comes with an off white power cord. Would be better with a matching black power cord, IMO.I joined Zoom calls using Alexa without issues and the video and audio worked well. I have not done any content sharing but did not see any options to do it unless I missed it. I guess it is best for family/personal calls or business calls where you are not sharing/presenting content. Something quite useful was the video tracking feature which automatially keeps you in the center of the video frame. There is a mute button, a volume up and a volume down button along with a camera privacy slider at the top of the device all of which are handy. Especially the camera privacy slide which mechanically puts a physical cover on the camera. Similar to the white cord that came with black device, the camera cover is white!I tried to join a Google Meet call but ended with a redirection to the Google Play Store for app installation. The app install was for the Android phone I used to configure and customize the Echo Show and not the Echo Show 8 itself. So, I guess no Google Meet for now. Or business focused services such as Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Skype is supported but I do not use it.There are some quirks that need to be sorted out. The white power cord, the white camera privacy slider for a black device are two examples. One more is how screen can be put to sleep. I asked Alexa to shut off the screen and it worked fine. I next hit the mute button to prevent sounds from waking the screen but the physical act of pressing the mute button activated the screen! And now since I have muted the device, I cannot tell it to shut off the screen!! For now, I use the Night/Do Not Disturb mode to shut off the screen. The speakers on the Echo Show 8 are good. They put out sound that is rich and loud with a good amount of base. The speakers are behind the screen and so placement of the device matters. Putting it against a wall would make it sound louder/better/different than placing it in an open area.As I shared before, know what you want and how you will use it before you buy it. Know that Echo Show is designed to be operated primarily by voice (aka Alexa commands). The user interface could be improved by quite a bit to make it more intuitive. Adding more flexibility and support for other applications and service would make this even better and get me to give it a higher star rating. This is the only reason for the three stars. Overall, a good quality device for specific needs.

We enjoy listening to our favorite music and checking the day’s forecast and traffic before heading out the door! We often ask Alexa to set timers and reminders to help keep us on track with our commitments, tasks and activities. We also ordered an Amazon Smart Plug and we’re now turning our first light on and off remotely by speaking to our Echo Show or just tapping into our Alexa app on our Smart phone. Love this thing! Probably going to have to get more smart plugs. :)This Amazon Show has so many features we’re having a blast incorporating them into our everyday life and getting closer to having a Smart Home! Great product from Amazon!!
this is the best device, I brought it as I wanted a good speaker with a screen and this is just awesome. The device once updated is very snappy and everything works as you'd expect, the sound is great, and it gets loud. the build quality is Solid and it looks nice.the screen is really good to display photos, (like modern photoframe) but not great to watch content on, it's just a cheap tablet screen but what can you expect.the only other thing is that if you don't tell the device very specificlly to turn the screen off, it will just stay on forever. I hope being on so much doesn't burn it out.but other than that it's a great device and for the money you pay it'll be hard to beat.
