I purchased my Men's Wool Runners in all black (top & sole) to serve as a dressy yet comfortable shoe. They fit this purpose perfectly. Their light weight and versatility makes them perfect as a travel shoe.They are very comfortable for long walks in town. Super lightweight, super comfy right out of the box. Some of the most comfortable shoes I've owned. Bought them for massive walking on a trip to Disney, and they passed with flying colors comfort wise. The insane comfort did translate to a bit of a loose feeling, I wouldn't wear them working out. When it poured, they soaked up the rain and got heavy and stiff and lost most of the comfort. They did dry quickly over night with airflow though. They're also very comfortable without socks, although I'd only use them like that sparingly to save on wear and smell. Unfortunately what I'm most disappointed in was I ordered black, the box said black, but I was sent some kind of light blue, and had no time to exchange because of the Disney trip. Equipped with that new insight, I bought a pair of Altra trail runners and now, Allbirds Men's Tree Runners in all black.I had been looking for months for a new approach to traditional dress shoes for the workplace (office, trade shows, etc.). I tried black New Balance shoes, ON walking shoes. They were either too stiff, or too flimsy for my now very sensitive feet as I aged. The shoe is comfortable and more compliant especially on the top than a rival brand SKxx. The lightness is good and compatible with other name brands. In other words the toes are less restrictive and breathe more freely than other polyester/nylon material tops. The only thing I am concern about is the maintenance of the cleanliness/appearance due to the absorbine nature of Smartwool. I did spray protective silicone spray to give it better protection but we will see. So far I am enjoying this new purchase.After using the shoes for 2 months from going grocery shopping and going to the malls, it worked real well. However, there are some black marks on the shoes and the light color is ironed to be stained. I would get a darker colored pair next time. Shoes still too large to wear comfortably. Purchased the shoes 3 days before going out of town for 3 weeks, so ran out of time to return within the 30 day return period. If you have a flat foot and can wear a men’s even size 10 or above with no modifications, then these shoes may work for you. If not, then don’t bother. Also, I found these 10M's to be tighter across the top of the foot with my bulky orthotics, more so than other 10Ms of different brands.I sent them back and I already saw the refund on my Credit card so that's a pro. And the customer service were very pleasant; the return process was a breeze. Another positive is that they were a nice looking, all-black shoe. I was hoping to be able to have finally found a decent looking shoe to pass as professional, without all the insignias and ugly extraneous details ie stripes etc that sneakers have, and they needed to be stretch fabric and not stiff heavy leather. A few things that I liked about the shoe without having worn it. I liked the simplistic design and lines of the shoe. They remind me of a more refined pair of topsider boat deck shoes I owned many years ago. I liked the color (blue) coupled with the white soles. The material looks rugged but breathable. I was intrigued by the type of material (bamboo) the shoe was made with. I thought these shoes could be just as easily worn in a business casual environment, taking the dog for a walk, or on vacation. Because the comfort factor was my primary reason for buying these shoes I was interested to try them on. The first thing I noticed was that the tongue of the shoe is actually connected to the shoe sidewall. There is an elastic action to the tongue relative to its sidewall when you pull the tongue upwards when sliding you foot into the footbed. I have big feet and when sliding my foot into the shoe I noticed immediately that when pulling up the tongue my toes would hit the connective parts of the tongue that affix to the sidewalls. I had to learn to not pull up so hard on the tongue to get my foot into the shoe. Once my foot was in the shoe it felt good, however, I have since learned that the shoe material is naturally elastic and doesn’t need or require that the shoe laces be tied tight. This is my first caution to other buyers. I found the compressive nature of the tongue on the top of my foot to be uncomfortable particularly when I have laced up the shoes with any tension. I don’t consider my foot to be high arched or sit tall, but I did notice a bit of discomfort after wearing the shoe for an extended period. I would compare the discomfort to when a shoe might hit your foot in a place and start to develop a hot spot. Many of the reviews I read leading up to buying this shoe left me with the impression that the sole bed and comfort of this shoe was unmatched and it would feel like walking on a cloud. While this shoe is comfortable in terms of its footbed and support, I feel as though it may suffer a bit in reality from its own reputation. This is not an uncomfortable shoe but it is also not the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. So my second caution to buyers is moderate any cloud like expectations around the comfort of the shoe. Another observation I am trying to still assess is the sensation that the material this shoe has heat wicking properties. I received this shoe in the winter and after wearing it a few times outdoors in brisk weather I felt as though my feet felt cold. Now this could be a great benefit during hot weather. My third caution to buyers is that these shoes run cold. Last, having worn these shoes for a couple of months I have noticed that the stretchable fabric on the top side of the shoe is starting to mold to the shape of my toes under the fabric. My concern here is that the spot where my big toe touches the fabric is likely to wear out first. Time will tell. Overall I find this to be an nice looking shoe that is versatile enough to be worn in multiple settings, that is comfortable but not cloud like comfortable, that it could be improved in its design of the tongue to not place so much pressure down on the top of my foot.
