Good looking reel and it served its purpose quite well until earlier today. I was fishing for cats on the Mississippi River and got a bite, set the hook and whatever was on the line was pretty big. As I was reeling in, where the reel attaches to the rod just snapped off clean leaving the double ended portion firmly attached to the rod where it is held in place and the reel tumbling to the ground.I picked up the reel and did my best to get the fish to shore, but it was pointless since I really had no place to grab it comfortably and reel in a nice sized fish, so I cut the line and let the fish go.Really disappointed with the way things turned out and I've never had a reel do that in all the years I've been fishing, and that is some considerable time since I'm now ... MoreGood looking reel and it served its purpose quite well until earlier today. I bought this rod and reel combo about 8 months ago and for the 8 months I had it she was a beast! But the line would get tangled around the bail and tangle and cut into the bail. One day I was fishing and the bail just broke, the line had just cut threw it like hot butter. The rod on the other hand is fine, but one day after I got done fishing I put my rod in the garage and came back and some bug or worm had eaten some of them handle from my rod, no biggie. Then I noticed that my end eye had came off my rod, my fault though, I stepped on it, but I fixed it. Back to the reel, I tried to send it back to Abu Garcia but they wanted $45 to fix it, with $45 I could get 2 Black Max reels or a new combo. Reel just kind of seemed to be made of some sorta of cheep plastic. ... MoreI bought this rod and reel combo about 8 months ago and for the 8 months I had it she was a beast! I bought the size 20 of this reel at Academy and had it spooled with 6 lb mono for a spare shorty rod I have.I have caught 2 or 3 small bass using Texas rigs and 5 or 6 Speckled salt water trout using DOA shrimp with a popping cork. Fishing from the shore and a kayak, but nothing over about 1.5 lbs. It has met my expectations and I would get another.
Love this reel. One of the best reels I have used. It's set up on my bass rod. Smooth casting. No tangles. Smooth retrieve. I would highly recommend this reel to anyone that goes fishing.
Bought a 60 to have a decent rod reel setup for when I fish off the shoreline. Put 50lb spiderwire on it, casts perfectly. In two outings I have caught two nice size Atlantic sharpnose sharks, redfish, blue cats, and a couple stinky slimy green cats. Probably the best spinning reel for the money!
Just bought this combo from Wally World to replace my junky Zebco 33. I caught 5 sunfish of different sizes the first time out. It did good. However, I can't get it to stop back lashing every other cast unless I'm quick on the bail or don't cast it too hard. None of my other reels have this issue, Silvermax 40 and a Lews Xfinity. I don't know what gives because it's properly set with 8lb line. I also did notice the crank bolt loosened on me too. Overall, the rod is decent, but I can say I won't buy another low end Abu.
I got this for me and my son I taught him open face spinning reel fishing on this reel . It was a great bonding experience. On 8lb line my son caught a 12lb large mouth bass and a 9lb small mouth bass. The moment your son get hooked on fishing with you is great. It has a very smooth cast great for shore line fishing. Great for both live bait and fake baits of all type I find tube bait and weighted hooks are amazing with this reel I use it in heavy weeds and brush patches it allows you to navigate very well cuts my fight in half with bringing in line. It works best on a berkley power caster medium
Bought this as a combo. Since the reel it self in a 30 has been out of stock since the beginning. At this point im about 2 weeks in with it and it still excites me to use it. Following my tradition with Black Max casters i paired it with a 6'6" vendetta fast action mediam rod and since my color scheme is black n red just fishing or in some small tournament its perfect. Within the first few hours of buying it landed a couple bass since then its takin on several other species up to a 18lb cat out of the red river. Not one hiccup honestly almost as smooth as my orra. Outside the original round reels this has to be part of the best run of abu reels ever to come out. Both this and my caster will be my main tourney rigs this season
Spooled with 10 lb braid line , the reel is a far caster and it's lais very well the braid line . If you are on the market for a buget reel for walleye fishing no look further then here .I puted mine on a 6 ft medium light berkley lighting rod , what a great value walleye combo . Go with the smaller size , size 10 .
