Thought we'd spend more money and get a better unit. For a $1000 unit it is reasonable to expect it to last 5 years. After about 18 months it began to move in circles so contacted Zodiac support. Zodiac said that the motor had died so we could replace motor (at about $300). It was very unlikely to be a dead motor as the unit still worked just didn't move properly. Had it looked at by someone (not associated with Zodiac) and the gears were worn on one side (makes more sense than dead motor). Contacted zodiac vic again to purchase new gears. Drove 2.5 hours to pick up only to be told they do not sell retail. Wasted 5 hours. New gears ordered from Sydney and installed but now the unit works for a few seconds then red info led flashes and unit turns off. Inner steel shaft has rusted after less than 6 months of use. I thoroughly rinse the cleaner in fresh water after each use. Is being returned under warranty. I've included a photo to illustrate in my review below. As a cleaner of small debris and leaves it works well. I have the micro filter for dust but it still doesn't do a great job of that. You can actually see the water get cloudy as the cleaner runs over an area of dust and fine sand and these particles pass right through the cleaner and are recirculated around the pool. Were it not for the main shaft rusting i'd probably give 3 to 4 stars.

Just drop the unit in the water and off you go, have a drink and watch it at work for you. Very simple easy to use, keeps the waste on board in its own easy to open and empty bin. Cleaning the pool with normal vacuum placed the waste inside my pool cartridge filter meaning weekly cleaning - not a problem any more. Has a thin 12? metre x 10mm cable connecting it to control box - not a huge vacuum hose like creepy crawly ones - you do need power near your pool for the control box, ie your pool pump area.,,and the box is waterproof but not weather proof - so best to keep it under cover when not in use. The only one negative review i found was complaining about its weight when removing from pool. Yes I have tried most of them, changed pumps a few times and really got sick of replacing them every 2 - 3 years. the original failures were much shorter than 2- 3 years as I left the units in the pool all the time. You should take then out when you are adding chemicals and then they will last longer with minor parts replacements. I finally reached my frustration limit and decided to invest in a robot pool cleaner. The research took several years a few more suction cleaners. I finally noticed a few good reviews appearing for the Zodiac CX20. The pricing was far more reasonable than some of the other solutions I was considering and as the first born had moved out of home I decided I needed to moderate the investment amount and purchase the CX-20. I live on acreage and get some debris blown in with the strong Queensland breezes, however my biggest challenge is the mess the wild ducks make of the pool when the swim and get out. There is some biological need to poop multiple times whenever they are in my pool. Last season we averaged 8 ducks in the pool at any given hour of the daylight and thats a lot of poop. The best thing about the CX20 is it picks up just about anything in the pool and non of it is cycled through the filter. Just marvellous. The leaf box stays much cleaner, the filter stays very much cleaner and the pool is much cleaner. There is no issue with the unit not running if the hose or the lid come out as the CX20 doesn't use the suction - bonus. It is very easy to clean which I do religiously after every clean. It gets up the walls of my fibreglass pool consistently and even manages the stairs sometime. I take it out after every clean and empty the basket and clean the unit. I have had it for around 12 months and there is not visible signs of wear on the moving parts. Do you self a favour and have a closer look at this marvel.
I was a bit hesitant with this purchase as it was a lot cheaper than other robotic cleaners, but I have used the Zodiac cx20 a couple of times and it has done exactly what it was advertised to do. We have a concrete in-ground pool and the cleaner cleans the floor and walls up to the waterline. After a couple of hours the pool's surfaces are all very clean. A couple of minor points: The 1st time used the cleaner did get stuck on a small outward curved step. One push and it was on it's merry way. This did not happen on the 2nd run. The 2nd time used there was a small 1 metre floor section that it missed, but it didn't get stuck on the step. (I'm sure if I left it in a bit longer it would have cleaned that section). I have a 10M x 5M concrete, marble sheen pool, coated with 2 pack epoxy resin.The pool is underneath a 35 Metre, neighbor's gumtree, joy.The Zodiac CX20 Pool Cleaner works as well as the Maytronics Dolphin X 30 it replaced and for a much cheaper price.It is great for leaves, gumnuts, small sticks and general dirt.The Dolphin lasted just over three years before it stopped which was way too soon for a $2,400 unit.It will be interesting to see how long this one lasts.
