Beware of "Sale prices." No Replacement options.

At least they paid for the return! It's disappointing as my NAS has been running great with four 8TB Red Pros for three years with no problems. Just be beware that if you're buying a drive that's on sale and If it's DOA, you'll only get a refund and you'll have to order a replacement at a higher price. Don't understand why WD won't offer the options of refund or replacement as most companies do. They lost my sale due to no exchange options.

Third one bought. With Plus 14tb being priced similarly (discounts excluded), it is a no-brainer since Pro comes with 5 vs 3 year warranty. We dont use it in a NAS, rather as JBOD disks for Plex and thus far zero complaints. Hopefully that trend continues. And prices of larger drives drop, lol. Great service from Galaxus, also zero complaints. Recommended.EDIT: Finally managed to register them with WD and 2 out of 3 show only 3 years of warranty. All were bought within a span of 6 months. Clearing it up with WD at the moment, surely it is a glitch on their end since I have a few Red Plus' bought in 2023 and WD website displays warranty until 2028 which is clearly wrong since Red Plus comes with 3 year warranty Thought maybe WD changed policies, but Galaxus stil ... MoreThird one bought. WD DRIVES ARE MY FAV

I’ve been buying and using Western Digital Drives since the 90s and they are STILL running. Bought (4) 3TB Drives about 10 years back and wanted to build a new NAS to replace them. I wanted to get a couple more but the Black Friday sale ended so I’ll wait for now. Only been about a month but they are running great 👍🏽 it’s crazy to think when I was a kid in the late 90s that the largest drives were about 1GB to 3GB and now 20 years later we have single drives that are well over 6,000x larger. I’ve used 100s of hard drives over the years for myself, friends, family and customers and Western Digital are the most reliable IMO. It’s even better being able to order straight from the source. Only thing that bothers me about these drives is they don’t have all the screw holes on the bottom like my old 3TB drives and my old Quit Case Trays they sit on only line up with 2 of the screw holes. Something to consider. Other than that working good, much quicker, pretty quiet and tons of storage, I should be good for another decade 😉

WD60EFAX - a huge disappointment
3 December 2022

I purchased the Red 6TB drive as a replacement drive for by 5-bay Drobo connected to our home Mac server, and used for storing Time Machine backups for our 5 computers. The Drobo has only WD Red drives purchased over the past years, gradually swapping in larger Red drives as old ones fail or I needed increased storage space. This is probably at least the 10th Red drive I have swapped in to our Drobo. As soon as I swapped in this drive I noticed it wasn't as usual. The Drobo would unmount and re-mount repeatedly during the RAID rebuild phase. When it was done rebuilding I tested it out by running a Time Machine backup, which should do an incremental change to a sparse bundle file. When it was done rebuilding I tested it out by running a Time Machine backup, which should do an incremental change to a sparse bundle file. I noticed that the entire sparsebundle file (1.7TB) was reduced to zero bytes and the backup software prompted to perform a "first backup", i.e. the historical changes were lost. I then noticed that this was the case also for all backup sets for the four other computers in our home. I now realize that the Red drive I purchased uses SMR instead of CMR and that these new Red drives don't appear to be suitable at all for our purpose. I can see that this information is on the website but how can WD make such a significant change to a product line and keep its name? Apparently, the Red is now named Red Plus but that was not obvious at all. I cannot believe how the good people at WD could allow this to happen. This is probably a decent standalone drive but it should not have been allowed to drag the Red (NAS/RAID) product line in the dirt. I am devastated, sad and angry with myself for trusting the product name so deeply that I didn't do research. And I am angry with WD for betraying that trust.

This is most of the time, since the system is only accessed once each night to receive backup copies from our main server.
