I tend to favor Vortex products over others due to the price-per-performance you almost always get when compared to the competition. I did a lot of long-term planning in choosing this specific spotting scope; the primary reasons being Vortex's lifetime warranty, the build quality of their Razor lineup, and the low weight (56.8 oz).I plan on using this spotting scope for almost any outdoors activity involving the use of firearms from here on out. My specific tripod recommendation to you is the Leofoto LS-324C Ranger Series Tripod WITH the LH-40 ball head. This tripod will set you back another ~$320. It's completely worth it given its very lightweight at 4.2 lbs, and has a high load capacity of 33.1lbs, making it great for supporting rifles as well.

Received the Razor HD 27-60x85 spotting scope and immediately put it to work. I was initially impressed with the appearance of this optic then I peeked down the eyepiece. Unlike the description of this product, I did not find a clear, crisp view nor superior image quality. The clarity of this scope does not live up to the Vortex quality that I'm accustomed to seeing. In the field, I found myself reverting back to my Vortex binoculars when trying to identify if the animal was a shooter or not. I have multiple Vortex optics (riflescopes, binoculars) that I'm extremely satisfied with, but this is not one of them. Unfortunately, I will be returning this spotting scope.

This spotting scope is solidly made. Materials and construction are very good. The focus adjustment was very tight. Optical performance was not the "wow" factor I was hoping for. The view at 100 yards was really little better than my Nikon Prostaff 3 Spotting Scope at 1/4 the price. I admit that this scope has great light gathering abilities and a higher power zoom for longer distances but overall it does not come close to my Leupold Gold Ring for clarity and field of view. The scope is good but overpriced. I should note that Vortex has a great warranty and stand solidly behind their products.

Great Scope for Birding
22 August 2022

I got this scope for birding and have been very impressed with the optics. The focus is smooth and the eye piece is comfortable with or without glasses. The Vortex warranty was also a huge selling point for me. I don't have to worry about taking the scope out in the elements or traveling with it since I know it is durable and if something crazy does happen, it will be covered. One thing to note is it does come with an Arca-Swiss base... make sure it works with your tripod, otherwise you will need an adapter!

Great optics, very clear and the focus works great. Can really fine tune the clarity. It is however heavy. If you’re going to pack it up a Mtn.

Great value
28 July 2019

The Salesman at Cabela's was helpful and patient, He set up the Vortex Razor and the Swaro. He spent at least one hour with me.I chose the Vortex. It is good enough. I have used it at the rifle range out to 500 meters and it is easy to track the vapor trail on various rifles and see the hits on target. Also it is very useful on observing mirage. It is easy to focus and it has a crisp and clear image. You can spend twice as much for a spotting scope but I do not feel that you will get an image that warrants the extra cost for what my primary use of it is.

I chose Razor over Swarovski
19 July 2023

Last year I drew the coveted Henry Mountains Deer tag (Southern Utah). I borrowed my buddy's 20-60x80 Swarovski for the hunt. When I arrived my guide and my spotter both had Vortex Razors. The guide had the "new" Razor and the spotter had the "old" Razor. Side by side in every condition imaginable, I COULD NOT TELL A DIFFERENCE between the 3 spotting scopes. Overcast, rain, blue sky, hot, 3000 yards, 500 yards, first and last light, and everything in between MY EYES could not tell a difference. This year, I just purchased a Razor and feel like I got a steal.

Nice glass! Headed to YNP to really give it a work out, but tested it locally and was able to find bison on a hill 3.25 miles away! Really clear and nice quality. This is an upgrade from another Vortex I have.Dont be afraid of buying 'open box' it was perfect and saved us money.

Razor spotting scope

Happy pleased and impressed. I just got back from a deer hunt in Idaho where I got to use my Vortex Razor HD 27 X 60 X 85 angled spotting scope. I have hardly any experience using a spotting scope. I had to read the instructions - not because I couldn't figure it out on my own but this is an expensive fine instrument and I didn't want to screw it up somehow because I was too stubborn to read the directions. So at first light I had it set up on a really nice Vanguard Alta 2330 tripod. This is not a very expensive tripod but it is well made and served as a steady base for my scope in 15-20 mile winds. It took me a little practice getting on a spot and zooming in. Everything I looked at came in very clear/sharp. The big test came when we moved and were driving down a dirt road and we spotted deer about 10000 yards away. I jumped out of the truck and put the spotting scope on the hood and tried to find the deer in the scope. I had a hard time finding the deer that I could see with my naked eye. That's me, but the wind was whipping hard and jiggling the truck and my brother was bouncing around in the seat. Finally I foud an eye ball in the brush of a different deer than I was trying to look at. I finally got on them and could see all four were does, so that saved us a long stock up a pretty steep hill side which we would have done because my 8X40 binoculars were not good enough to positively identify these deer in the very thick brush. Later that day we spotted more deer in a similar situation but this time I took the time to set up the stand and I was able to get on the deer quickly. Again they were all does but I picked out more deer in the brush than we initially spotted with the binoculars. I definitely recommend the vortex angled spotting scope. I found it quite comfortable sitting down looking through the angle scope - no neck strain like I had experienced with the straight scopes. A person needs to practice finding objects at distance and zooming in and focus because a minute can make a big difference during a hunt.

Vortex Razor Spotting Scope

Have used this scope for bench shooting numerous times. It is outstanding. Easy to use and set up and by far the best bang for the buck you can get. I have switched to Vortex scopes for rifles also after buying Leupold for years - Leupold makes a good product but Vortex is their equal if not better and a much better price in my opinion.
