Having seen this in several YouTube "great tools under $20" type videos, I was excited to see this in the store and futz with it. The flippy mechanism was neat, and I loved the heft of it. When I had some work that would require a quality scraper, and not the flimsy scraper I already had, I made the purchase.The first day, this worked well. I scraped my stuff, and all was good. However, the following use when I needed to break down several boxes, the flippy mechanism broke... cutting cardboard. Some users reported this breaking when cutting drywall, but this was **cardboard.**I'll be returning to Lowes for a refund, and suggest anyone considering this to get a knife and scraper as two separate items.

The engineering and tooling to get this product to market must have been extremely expensive." However I immediately noticed a flaw while scoring drywall during the first few days of use. The mechanism would get stuck after getting the slightest amout of dust in it. I would stop and blow it out with the compressor and even tried putting some graphite powder in the slide mechanism. I thought oh well, I'll just use it as a scraper but even that function broke while scraping silicone off tile. A small peice of metal fell out and it was all over after that. Not practical for a contractor, but maybe for a DIYer that wont get it too dirty. Back to the ol' trusty break away blade for me. I will say the ToughBuilt tool belt line, is great. I have all of them.

The Toughbuilt scraper utility knife is a great, versatile tool to add to the toolbox. So far I have used it for multiple projects around the house and it has been quite handy. It has easily outperformed my old scraper, mostly because of its size and weight; whereas other scrapers are too flimsy or awkward to hold. However, that size and weight aren't quite as helpful when using it for simple box and packaging opening. It can certainly do the job, but it is probably overkill if that's your only or primary reason for needing a utility knife. I found it incredibly useful when cutting the excess caulk around the window panes in our door, where I needed to first cut a smooth line along the edge and then scrape the caulk off the window. Not needing to constantly switch back and forth between tools was very convenient! And even with arthritic hands, switching between settings was a breeze. So far, really the only negative thing about it is that it does require a special blade, ordinary utility blades won't work in it. However, it does come with extra blades and they are solid and sharp, and seem like they will hold up well. If you are really tough on your utility knives and require frequent blade replacement, this might not be the tool to completely replace your existing utility knife, due to the higher cost of replacement blades. However, for the common household toolbox, it could easily replace an existing scraper and blade and become your go-to and it's still a solid add-on even if you don't plan to completely replace your existing tools.
