I purchased this mower after my last Toro was just going to cost too much to fix. Glad I did especially with the electric start. However, I immediately noticed a metal on metal coming either from the engine or underneath the mower itself- as if the blade was out of round or hitting the cowling. I immediately returned it to Dave's Engine and they went through it completely only to find nothing wrong. It cuts fine, I just notice this sound that appears out of normal. Jim assured me not to worry, that the mower was under warranty. Funny thing, I just received a Total Care extended coverage for the mower. Coincidence...probably. Whoever designed this should be fired. I had years a Toro with wind tunnel they shot grass out. This does not have side discharge only bag catcher. Thin blade grass is great, but I waited 2 days let grass dry and mowed in evening 93 deg. crab grab grass hold moisture and clogs up underneath. Have to bounce mower help clear it or it died on me 10 times trying to mow back yard had cutting setting in middle. You can mow it close. Not sure if it has enough horsepower might be part of problem. I never had a mower this bad to clog up. Wish I had my old mower back. Pay $550. The self-propelled part is nice when I'm moving forward, but makes it much harder to pull back while trimming under tree branches. Overall, it is more difficult to use for my particular application than a non-propelled mower would be, but the push-button start feature makes it worth the extra effort in my case. The day will come, I'm sure, when this mower will need maintenance and be hard to start, and the electric starter will be a big advantage at that time. The day will come, I'm sure, when this mower will need maintenance and be hard to start, and the electric starter will be a big advantage at that time. So far, it has started quickly and easily with the pull rope as well as with the electric starter. Also, due to the published "features" of this mower, it did not come with a side discharge chute. During the registration process, I requested the "free side discharge chute" to be mailed to me (4-6 weeks, they said), but it has not arrived yet, and for my purposes, the bagging and mulching features are a disadvantage in my case. That stuff is inconvenient and gets in my way compared to a simple side discharge.Overall, if I was purchasing this mower to take care of a small lawn, it would be absolutely perfect for that purpose. Knowing that I don't have to yank on the rope to start it makes the job much easier for me, and again, the electric start feature is the ONLY reason I purchased THIS mower.I really hope that side discharge chute shows up soon. It would have rated 5 stars if it came with the mower.Overall, for someone who wants a self-propelled mower with bagging/mulching features, this mower would be perfect. The electric start feature is worth the extra cost compared to a manual mower with pull start. Electric start should be an option on lower priced, manual (versus self-propelled) mowers as a way to appeal to older people who mow their lawns for exercise, or out of necessity due to financial factors. Walking and pushing a mower is a much easier task than yanking on that rope when the motor won't start. Most people are going to put it up at the end of the season and not think about it again until the following Spring. Condensation in a partially filled fuel tank will allow water to contaminate the fuel, and make it hard to start the first time. Electric start while sorting that out makes it well worth the extra cost.

Electric start would be great…
25 June 2023

I got a Toro because I’ve had great experience with them in the past. They always started without an issue. Granted, I haven’t had one for 5 years, but recently gained a lawn to mow. I just paid quite a bit for an optional electric start Toro model, and have only been able to use that feature the first time. All of the others I’ve had to pull start it. With shoulder and back issues, eventually this will be a problem. I’ll be calling the store tomorrow where I bought it from, since it doesn’t seem to be starting with the push start. For a nearly $600 mower, Toro isn’t holding up to their former reputation.I hope this is just a fluke, but according to the directions, it should be charging. Hopefully it’s just a minor thing, or it’s going back.

Good cut, easy to maneuver
28 May 2022

My family recently moved from NJ to MD with a job transfer. This mower replaces a 28 yr old, 36” Exmark. I purchased this mower for the self-propelled and electric start. The lawn is healthy and thick, so on the tougher side to mow and mulch with no grass clumps left on top of the grass. This mower performs so-so. The blade seems to have a convex shape to it, it is not flat, so the cutting edge is more towards the tips of the blade. Not sure if this is correct or not, I will have the dealer check this out. The mower starts on the first pull every time. The electric start button worked at delivery, but when I tried to start the mower to cut the lawn for the first time a week later, the electric start button did not work. Brought back to dealer and so far, waiting about 2 weeks for parts. The auto-drive is awesome! Turning the mower against a fence, only takes one had to get the mower moving. Very solid handle and very easy to maneuver. I have the mower height set at 2nd from the top, so the blade is a little over 3” off the ground. Overall, the mower did not “WOW” me, but does a good job cutting about 1/4 acre. Would like to have an “X” blade option for mulching, as I believe the additional cutting edges would help recut the clippings under the deck and yield a better dispersal of clippings.

My very first brand new mower
28 June 2023

As the title states its my first ever new mower. Ive always bought second hand products and fixed them just to get by. After a decade of making do I figured it was finally time to splurge on myself and went with the electric start model to boot. The very 1st 15 mins of starting and cutting were great! After that not so much. This thing lacks power. It was a dry day and while my grass was on the longer side (10 or less inches) it was by no means a jungle. The mower kept bogging down using the mulching option and by the way you have to register the product and wait 2 months+ to receive the side discharge chute in the mail. After the 2nd time bogging down the electric start blew a fuse, nice! Im not 100% on the details and I don't care to know. The purpose of buying new is to not worry about these sorts of issues. Anyway I finished the cut with the regular pull start and I'm starting to regret this purchase. Should've spent more for the Honda!

Not for short people

I bought this two months ago and I am sorry I did. #1 problem, I am 4'10" and have the handle in the lowest position. When I walk with the more on the slighest incline I have to push. It is supposed to speed up and slow down with your pace which does not do well unless you have a perfectly flat, not bumpy lawn. I can walk faster than the mower. It uses more gas than my old mower. I like the electric start, but liked the way I could control the speed myself with my old Honda mower. It is considerably lighter than my old Honda mower. I wish I had bought an electric mower. The deck where the blades are is much easier to clean than my old Honda Mower. The manual is pretty useless. There are only picture icons, no instructions on the machine itself.

I have always had a Personal Pace, and the only reason I had to purchase another one is because the self propeller engagement wouldn't work!! The rest of the old one works great, just no self propelled option! Unfortunately, I received this one (MUCH BIGGER & HEAVIER than my older one too), upon receipt of this one on June 15, 2023, I was so ecstatic to get her up and running, I let it charge for a couple of days, and whammo, there came an amazing day for mowing, so I excitedly rushed out to the garage, and she started right up with the e-start! Everything appeared to be GREAT on CONCRETE, however, when I proceeded out to my lawn to mow.... YOU GOT IT... "REAR WHEEL SELF PROPELLED DID NOT WORK!" .So, went out there approx, 30 days upon receipt of the unit, today, I thought, well perhaps I just didn't engage it properly first use, so began mowing and HEART BREAK...no "self propeller!" Now I'm here trying to contact anyone to speak with at Toro, and there IS NO WAY of "talking with Customer Service Rep's" <- this alone is TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING IN ITSELF!" Therefore, I came to the site to request a "REFUND & RETURN THIS MOWER" and then come to find out it can "NOT BE SHIPPED BACK if it has had gasoline in it which makes no sense what so ever!" How is one suppose to KNOW if the product is defective or not UNTIL IT IS USED!? Looking back now, I so wish I hadn't been so confident in Toro Products AND READ the Return Policy PRIOR TO PURCHASING, but again, I have never had a problem with ANY Toro product I've owned. The old one I have still runs great just doesn't have self propeller, but is MUCH LIGHTER than this one in review!! I'm sitting here BLOWN AWAY not knowing what to do! I got my old one out today & began using it, because again, this one in review is totally MUCH HEAVIER than my old one. Thank God no one stopped & purchased my old one I would be even much more UNHAPPY!! I'm not telling anyone what to purchase one way or another, I just had to share my experience with this particular unit, y'all do as you will. I'm disabled & that is why I have to have e-start as well as self-propeller mowers, I just do not know what to do at this point! God Bless evry-1

The electric start is great and starts every time, even the pull thing I can handle with a breeze if I dont use the electric start button. The bag and side discharger iare also so so helpful. Anyway the person I spoke to on the phone was so nice and she said it would take three weeks to get it. They sent it to me and it only took one week to get. Purchased this mower after my 10 yr old Honda mower died due to broken drive belt. Too difficult for me to repair and too expensive to take in for repair. My local hardware store (Frattallonies in New Hope) has a large assortment of Toro products. And I needed it NOW!Reasonable price and just brought it home, added oil and gas and finished my lawn.I love the electric start. Can mulch or bag. When registering I could request Toro to send a free side discharge chute but haven't seen it yet!?!?!Like the 22 inch cut. Like easy electric start. Little bit under powered on small grades. Easy to use bagging features. Cut not quite as good as Honda but ok with me. Lighter than Honda so easy to maneuver. Had previous Toros that gave me over 20 years so hopefully this will be my last mower.2 Years ago Frattallonies sold me single stage snowblower that works quite well even in heavy wet snow. It replaced a 41 year old Toro single stage.
