High quality product. If I was buying parmesan cheese I would probably go for pre-grated (maybe Millel). Also, I doubt if I would buy a block of any cheese costing $10. Despite this, if I wanted a seriously top quality cheese for a special occasion I would recommend this. The name tells you it is the real deal (anything called Parmesan is an attempt to imitate the genuine article) If you have the time and energy to grate your own parmesan it is worth the effort. NB: This parmesan is not too salty and smells better than the powdery cheap stuff

A beautiful cheese to finish off your meals! I first bought this when it was on a special, 3 cheeses for $12. 00. I stocked up on TD Cheeses, some I've never tried and this was one of them. Normally you would pay $10. 00 for a 250g block, made in Italy, also has a 3 health star rating. I now purchase the Woolies grated and shaved parmesan cheese, which I'm very happy with. But if I'm wanting to get my fancy pants on, this will do me fine. Grated easily, was so light and soft. And blended well into my ricotta sauce, melted like a dream into my pasta. It's a strong cheese, but does not over power your dish. Adds a lovely creamy finish with a bit of bite, this is one that I'll purchase again. Hopefully on another special, cheers all.

A bit too subtle but very nice. Great size and attractive packaging. Very hard to open from the tip though, I had to use scissors. It would be great if it came in a resealable pack. Easy to slice and grate due to being fairly soft-ish. I do like the flavour but it's just not sharp enough for me, I really like a bold, strong, zing. Not bad value for money, comparable or even cheaper to rival products. Will be keen to see if there is a stronger variety available in the range, if so would definitely give it a go.

Just discovered what this product is AFTER review! This product was packaged as a triangle. It was different to the blocks of hard cheese that I normally get and caught my eye as 'fancy'. At $10 a 250gm block it certainly was more expensive than the regular cheese I get. It was also a tad more tricky to open, a tad more tricky to cut a slice, with knife/grater and I wasn't entirely sure whether this was a 'cooking' cheese or intended for something special in the kitchen that I didn't know about. The pack gave me no idea how to use it. I also spotted that it was made in Italy. My curiosity was aroused. Aren't they like the French and experts on specialty cheeses? What am I meant to do with this to get the best out of it?Cautiously I opened the pack. There was no ... MoreJust discovered what this product is AFTER review! The pack gave me no idea how to use it. I also spotted that it was made in Italy. My curiosity was aroused. Aren't they like the French and experts on specialty cheeses? What am I meant to do with this to get the best out of it?Cautiously I opened the pack. There was no strong aroma. I decided to cut the cheese for a sandwich (this was difficult because of its shape) and sneaked a taste. No dramas! It was just cheese! The flavour was even familiar (from some cheese I'd tasted way back). Not too strong, pleasant enough. It was quite hard to cut but texture was smooth and it didn't crumble, as I've had some hard cheeses do. I sneaked a look at the nutritional information. Amazing 30gm protein content per 100gm and a disappointing 20gm saturated fat. That more than wipes out my daily intake of saturated fat (which should max out at 7 or 8 gms for the entire day for me). But hey, it's cheese. What do you expect? I only had a small bite!I'm afraid that this will take a long time to eat given how small the portions must be and how large the packet is. And I don't eat cheese everyday. But I'm not a great cheese person and I think I'll be scratching my head for how to use. I wonder does this go off? Some cheaper cheeses get mold if they are left open too long (and after that experience the kids wont eat cheese that has been open more than a few days 'just in case'!) ... so I will be struggling to use this. I plan to try this in cooking (mindful of the fat content) and perhaps with crackers. In absence of any other suggested uses I'm a bit stuck. OK google just came to my rescue.. I've got it all wrong! Oh NO!! The sandwiches have just left .... this is going to be really BAD ... NO PLEASE .. don't eat the sandwiches ... PLEASE ... I'll have to phone... oh no... this is bad ... Wikipedia tells me:"Parmigiano-Reggiano is commonly grated over pasta dishes, stirred into soups and risottos, and eaten on its own. It is often shaved or grated over other dishes like salads. Slivers and chunks of the hardest parts of the crust are sometimes simmered in soup. " and it's named after the region it is from. And wow outside Europe the name "Parmesan" has become genericised, and may denote any of a number of hard Italian-style grating cheeses, but inside Europe "Parmesan" may only be used, by law, to refer to Parmigiano-Reggiano itself. Wow... OKay, you don't eat this in sandwiches! No wonder. The triangle shape also makes sense for grating. And the HUGE fat content probably becomes okay for small shavings as a topper. It's all starting to make sense. There was no hard crust and this is shaping up as a grating cheese... how come I only find this out after writing my review?Okay my summary. 1) you definitely need to help educate customers what this cheese is, where you would use it! 2) Packaging and shape makes sense, as it is for grating, but I still think a smaller pack would persuade me to get it 'for a change' once in a while, and this would reduce the price too. I wont be buying it again because of the price and the size (don't want to risk it going off) and 3) I did not think this was great value for money, but I was comparing it to hard cheese used in sandwiches. No experience with special cheese just for grating over stuff.
Extra cheesy. I love parmesan cheese and was excited to test out a proper looking block of the stuff. I opened the package the unmistakable smell of parmesan smacks you in your smelling holes. The cheese also looks authentic with that crumbly look. I took a nibble straight from the block and it was just delicious, I could not wait to try this out on a number of dishes. So far I have tried it on a lemon chicken and rice dish (sounds a bit weird but I was following a recipe) and a pasta and potato salad. Provides a great taste to both dishes and I will be finishing with the obligatory spaghetti bolognese. I look forward to serving up and then shaving the parmesan over the dish, will take me back to my Italian travels! I think the price is fine especially since the ... MoreExtra cheesy. Highly recommended to anyone who is not lazy and does not mind grating or shaving for themself, well worth the extra effort!
The perfect pasta accompaniment!!!! This is a really lovely mature but mild with just the right amount of tang cheese. The texture is soft with a hint of crumble. As soon as I saw and smelt and tasted this cheese I knew it was perfect to go with my woolworths spinach and ricotta pasta with vegetable sauce. I sliced the cheese thinly to go on top of my dish and it was perfect melt in my mouth cheesy packets of tangy surprise. I will next try this cheese with some pepper crackers and sweet gherkins. I have a feeling it will be perfectly used in this snack too. Would definately get this cheese again now I know it exists!
Amazing! Great cheese! What a great large size of parmigiano reggiano! The first couple of tastes I had were sliced off the end, followed by a few more sliced, followed by a few more sliced for my partner and then 1 further for me. It was a great well balanced full flavoured cheese. Fresh, crumbly, sharp, and thoroughly enjoyed! It was a sad moment when I had to put it away. I used this as the final topping on some homemade Italian meatballs and boy did it compliant the meal. Good cheese, on home made sauce and meat balls never goes astray!
Smooth & Creamy But Still Bitey! This cheese was a HUGE hit with my family and I!I had read the reviews prior to trying and I approached the first bite with a tad of suspicion mixed with a bit of nerves!! Yes, over cheese!! I love cheese and I hate being disappointed when you buy ones you don't like!Needless to say, I was suitably impressed! Not only did I eat it on it's own, I grated it into a salad and tonight it is going to be used with a creamy pasta! My husband describes it as tasty cheese melded with parmesan. Me? I describe it as absolutely delicious!Price is high but it is darn well worth as you don't need a lot!
Easy to use and great value. I have in fact purchased the Thomas Dux 14 month aged and its lovely flavour very mild easy to grate just the right amount needed. If prices remain as is will defiantly repurchase. Great for making homemade pesto with fresh basil and pine nuts - yummy
Love this cheese! I'm a grate-it-myself person, and I absolutely loved the flavour and texture of this cheese. I grated it over pasta dishes like bolognese, and also added it to the breadcrumb topping of a garlic prawn bake (which was so good I ate the leftovers for dessert). It seems pricey, but the intense flavour means you don't need to use half a block in a single dish. This Reggiano will be on my shopping list when I want a good quality cheese with spectacular flavour. (Apologies to my abandoned half-used block of Parmesan - you've been superceded, matey. )
