The Digital Holster 40 camera holster bag holds a deep body pro size DSLR with attached standard zoom and can be worn on a belt or over the shoulder. A 'pop-down' zippered base allows the bag to expand to accommodate a telephoto zoom with hood reversed. It's amply padded- to provide good protection but with minimal bulk. The top flap opens away from the body to give quick unobstructed access to the camera. Stretch pockets under the lid and on the front take small accessories like cards- spare battery and lens cap. Like all Think Tank bags it has metal hardware and YKK RC Fuse zippers for long lasting durability.

According to the description, B&H states that, will hold a regular-sized DSLR such as a Canon 1D, 1Ds or Nikon D3, D4with a 70-200mm f/2.8 with itshood eitherreversed or in shooting position. It does not fit like it should in this case. B&H must not have the right description listed. I've emailed them, and once this is resolved, I would change my rating, because these appear to be very good holsters.

Purchased this primarily for a Nikon Z9 and Z24-120 lens and it fits perfectly. Also works with Z14-24 lens and anything similar. With extension down the hood can be in the shooting position. ALSO with the extension down you can fit either a Z70-200 or Z100-400 with the hood reversed and of course a Z9 attached. However...with the Z100-400 it is so snug that the lens will extend out to the 400mm position when you pull it out. I did not like the idea of forcing the zoom to extend every time I remove it. Not a problem with the 70-200 since it zooms internally. Overall, a very versatile holster with Think Tank quality.

Functional, Lightweight Holster.

I have found this holster to be a good match for a Nikon D-850 with an attached battery grip and a wide angle zoom lens. I have combined it with other Think Tank products including a belt, a shoulder strap, and a harness. Very impressed with how well the weight of gear is distributed and how quickly gear can be accessed. Very comfortable for long walks and hiking.

Great bag
14 May 2022

I have a bunch of the TTP Digital Holsters (5, 10, 20, 50), for various camera/lens combinations. Recently decided to attach the free battery grip that came with my 5D MkIV, so decided to get the 40 (didn't absolutely need it, but...). It works with the 5D + medium length lens (24-105, 16-35, 135, etc); even with my 180 Macro or 70-200 f/4 (if you drop down the extension). It fits these really well plus polarizer, spare battery, etc. I usually don't use it while actively photographing (typically preferring to use a Black Rapid strap), unless I'm expecting rain; but it works really great for protection while transporting gear in my car.

Great design which accommodates a gripped 70-200 and 24-70.
10 June 2022

I was worried that it wouldn't fit my R3 with a 70-200 2.8 as well as my 24-70, but it's great. A very clever design with the unfurling zip to accommodate different lens sizes. It could use some more pockets for a spare battery and strap so it lost a star for that. (There's a stretchable side slot for something which becomes the battery carrying-strap holder). This is my first ThinkTank (Tenba, LowePro, Tamrac so I can't judge the quality quite yet but I love the solid metal bag clips (bolt snap type) and it looks very well made. I think the strap could be wider (it feels thin with a 70-200 inside) and the strap shoulder harness feels like it could be wider too but time will tell. Overall a quality product with a very clever design.

Great for pro/gripped body w/ long lens
1 May 2013

This is my first Think Tank purchase, along with the pro belt, harness, a couple of lens changers and a strobe pouch; about $300 all in. I bought this kit for hiking, but don't plan to use all attachments each time. The holster is very well made, and easily accommodates a pro or gripped body with a long lens mounted (hood reversed), when the pop down is extended. In my case, a Canon 5D or 5DIII with grip and a 70-200 f/2.8. The included shoulder strap is a nice touch, for using the holster without the belt. The size of the holster adds substantial width to my beam when mounted at the side of my hip; fortunately, the Think Tank system makes it possible to slide the holster around to the back of the belt when immediate access is not required.

Perfect fit and function.
28 October 2016

I've used the first version of this camera holster for over six-years with excellent results. The holster has adequate storage pockets both inside and out. It holds the camera/lens perfectly, while keeping it secure (not flopping around inside the case), yet allowing quick access and easy withdrawal of the camera from the holster when worn on a belt or being carried like a shoulder bag. The new model does all this and more! The new version also has an exterior stretch pocket, perfect for holding a lens cap, cell phone or to store the strap in. Of course the real bargain, is that this is really two holsters in one! The zip expandable lens end of the case, allows for carrying the camera with a small or large lens attached! Super protection, fast access
6 March 2011

V. 2 has outside flexible pouch to hold varying shape items. Can readily Lightning Flash or Modular Pouch. Will counter balance a backpack when mounted on the chest area with the proper straps(you got to have confidence to wear it like that in public), on TT or other wide belt, with shoulder strap. Yes (). Outside zippered pouch holds 2-3 77MM filters in square cases. Holds D300s with MB-D10 with Nikkor 300mm F4 lens mounted when expanded. Best thing about buying one system is that you can configure it by borrowing from other items. Top flap inside pocket useful from flat/soft items.

Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 40 v2.0
30 August 2016

On recommendation of folks at Think Tank Photo, I ordered the Digital Holster 40 v2.0 for my Nikon D810 with RRS L-plate and 16-35 mm lens. The Think Tank folks thought I would need the 40 size bag because of the L-plate on the D810, but there was too much extra room. The Digital Holster D40 size is really for a pro camera such as the Nikon D5. My camera was swimming in it. In the end I returned the bag and will be trying the Digital Holster 20 v2.0. I gave this bag 5 stars anyway because it's really well made with well thought out features and little extras like extra pockets for small items like batteries or memory cards.

Used for the last 4/5 year to hold first a 5D III with a 24-105mm L lens and sometimes a 70-200mm lens (just unzip the lower section to increase length. Holster is just that little short to also hold the camera grip as well but I have not found one that can including back packs.. Well padded and used both just the handle as well as the strap when walking around and also work on the web belt as just hooks on which I must admit have only tried the once along with a lens case but found the total weight was pulling down somewhat and made walking uncomfortable - but that could just be my body :) Most robust but cannot say I have mistreated it in any way, but ... MoreUsed for the last 4/5 year to hold first a 5D III with a 24-105mm L lens and sometimes a 70-200mm lens (just unzip the lower section to increase length.
