Pycnogenol is a natural plant extract derived from the pine bark of French maritime pine trees. It contains procyanidins, bioflavonoids and organic acids that work in synergy to rejuvenate the skin, with the aim of enhancing skin hydration and elasticity. With the ability to selectively bind to collagen and elastin, Pycnogenol protects these proteins from degradation, helping to nourish the skin from the inside out. Being a unique and powerful antioxidant, Pycnogenol scavenges for free radicals before they cause damage by oxidative stress. It can also recycle oxidized Vitamin C to restore its activity. The Ordinary Pycnogenol 5% is free of artificial colours. The formulas deep red colour is due to the high procyanidin content in Pycnogenol. Directions Apply alone or after water-based serums, before oils or heavier creams. Alternatively, mix with other treatments to enhance their antioxidant capacity. Wash hands after application and avoid product contact with fabric as it may stain.

Interesting smell, doesn’t cause breakouts

Due to its texture and finish, I only use it in the evening, but a few drops added to your daytime cream should also work, unless you have very oily skin. As for the results, I can’t really see any improvement in elasticity, but hopefully it will work as a preventative measure. Immediate results are usually more visable on older skin that tends to improve upon proper hydration. I‘m in my early 30s and find that the most impressive results come from the TO Retinol 1% (clears up any congestion, improves texture, reduces fine lines - IF used with caution and moisturizer).I have a question to TO. Can I use Resveratrol and Pycnogenol together, possibly even mix it during application? Thanks for your help.

I am only 23 going on 24 but noticed some slight wrinkling in my face (mostly forehead) and omg can I tell you how horrified I was to see signs of aging in the mirror! I also have acne but not very bad. It apparently also offers some UV protection and I am going to order some pycnogenol as a oral supplement due to its studied medical properties. Like seriously look up how versatile this stuff is, helps your circulatory system, joint pain, mental clarity, etc. Not that this skin serum will do all that, but I cant believe I had never heard of this stuff before. What a GEM! I even started making my bf use it too I love it so much

I have gone through three bottles of this stuff. I love how it makes my skin feel, somehow softer and firmer. I feel this ingredient is underrated. I love to pair it with a vitamin C serum in the mornings, and occasionally after tretinoin in the evening when I'm feeling a little dry and need a little extra nourishment. I love the glow it seems to give, which I think is due to the hue. I truly pray that this product is never discontinued. I love having it as a stand-alone product for routine flexibility. Please never take this baby away.

I'd never heard of Pycnogenol and was watching a YouTube video with Rob from Mad About Skin where he was raving about it, so thought why not give it a go? I love it! I love the colour, the texture, the smell (it's not bad at all) and it makes my skin feel soooooooo good. I am particularly drawn to its antioxidant properties and I especially love how it stimulates the body to naturally produce Hyaluronic acid (Rob discusses this in the video) so it is plumping and hydrating from the inside out, not just the outside in when I apply my HA serum. I squeeze TO HA Moisturiser into the palm of my hand, then mix about 3 drops of Pycnogenal and smooth over my face and neck. Feels wonderful. I asked my friend for some skincare advice, since I was 40 years old and still using bar soap and no lotion on my face. I know, I know. She was actually appalled but impressed with how my skin was holding up.Anyways, this was the first TO product she turned me onto.I wasn't overly impressed, but I did like the other TO products I ordered. Ended up getting Amino Acid + B5 with my second order, which is a very sticky serum. Found that I could mix it with this and IT'S AWESOME! This somehow makes the Amino Acid less sticky, but allows both to absorb better. Anyways, my skin has never looked or feel better!I use Marine Hyaluronics, then 2 drops of this with 5 drops Amino Acid, followed by a good moisturizer (w/o HA). Works wonders! Not exaggerating here, but this might be the best skincare product I’ve ever tried (and this is a high bar because imo azelaic acid is the greatest invention of all time). Jokes aside, I was honestly blown away by the change I’ve seen after only using this for a fairly short time. My skin feels super smooth and plumper and the texture has improved a lot. It’s also very hydrating. It doesn’t do as much for active breakouts and fading scars than some other products from The Ordinary (the above mentioned azelaic acid remains king for that), but I’m getting to an age where I’ve started to feel I should be doing more to prevent future wrinkles and working on skin health and hydration, and pycnogenol is simply perfect for that.I wanted to use it in the morning, but the ... MoreNot exaggerating here, but this might be the best skincare product I’ve ever tried (and this is a high bar because imo azelaic acid is the greatest invention of all time). Their best product!
15 June 2023

The first review I have written for The Ordinary, although I use many of their products.Pycnogenol 5% is the BEST product The Ordinary sells! It has changed to the texture of my skin in ways I would have never dreamed of.I am a 61-year-old woman who has used high-end skincare products for over 20 years (being a very loyal Arcona customer who started using their line in 2001). Arcona products reduced much of my early 40s rosacea. With that cleared, I had other aging issues, mainly dry skin. Over the course of 20 years, there have been other changes obviously, but overall I was happy with their products. Except as you can imagine the price.I did develop psoriasis in my late 50s on my hands and feet, but I am able to control it with medication and moisturizer. Over the course of 20 years, there have been other changes obviously, but overall I was happy with their products. Except as you can imagine the price.I did develop psoriasis in my late 50s on my hands and feet, but I am able to control it with medication and moisturizer. It never affected my facial skin, but I do have dry skin.Into my 60s, I had two major problems, lines, and enlarged pores around my nose mostly. I really thought the pores would always be an issue. It was somewhat controlled with Arcona products, but still an issue. The lines around my eyes were not helped by Arcona products. I tried other products, but I have a problem under one eye from teenage sun damage which has created a really bad bag. I've tried everything, but the damage has made it difficult to drain that bag under this eye. Even the way I sleep was a problem so I was purposely not sleeping on that side of my face to avoid anything with would collect fluid under that eye. Suffice it to say that didn't always work and caused sleeping issues. I now have a great (similar to Sleep & Glow) pillow. So first I discovered The Ordinary and started trying their products. You can guess why -- price. With Arcona running as high as 100+ productions, I was looking for reasonable alternatives. Don't get me wrong, I love Arcona as a line. But when your paying that much money and you can get the same results from someone else and save (especially for certain products like HAs, Retinols, and Vitamin C) you're willing to try it.I have tried as this point over 12 of The Ordinary products and look to buy another 5 that I haven't tried yet. I do plan to write more reviews, but I decided to start here because this is the one that will be part of my regime until they stop making it.It really is a game-changer for the issues I have. With enlarged pores, my regime has been for years an Arcona cleanser/soap, toner product and an Arcona Glycolic and Lactic Acid product. Up to a couple of months ago, my one big discovery was Arcona's Glycolic/Lactic product (Arona's Gentle Solution which wasn't one of her original items when Arcona was still alive). That was my lifesaver that I swear by. It changed everything for me as it reduced forehead lines to the point of invisibility and for years many thought I used Botox. An Arcona toner, Tabula Rasa, reduced my pores specifically around my nose. Neither product helped with eye bags, puffiness, and the sun damage I deal with. HAs, Retinols, Vitamin C, hydrators, eye creams/gels/serums did very little for the undereye area. After a while and some analysis, it became clear it was the sun damage that caused the bag under the eye to be so bad.So finally to The Ordinary: I started trying products. Specifically for the issues I needed help with. Different direct Acids, HAs, the eye serums. Some things work great, some so-so. I'll review the eye serums on those products. But let me be specific about Pycnogenol 5%. I finally decided to buy it based on a Cassandra video. I wasn't even expecting much even with her glowing review. But WOW, this stuff is the real deal.First, it has done wonders for the pores on my nose. I have a couple that are very large, to the point they never get smaller. One on the side of my nose bugged the crap out of me. Well, Pycnogenol 5% has kicked its butt. I've been using it for about two months and this pore has shrunk amazingly. I am hoping this will disappear completely soon. I cannot believe how much my pores in this area have improved. Now to the bag under my eye, there is progress. There is less damage to the area. Overall, I have fewer lines under both eyes.I am telling you Pycnogenal 5% is game-changing at least for me. I see so much improvement in my facial skin overall, I am now going to also use it on the lines on the bridge of my nose as they are getting pronounced with age. I use about four bead drops on my total face twice a day, at night and in the morning. Sometimes a couple more bead drops under my eyes if I go out either before applying something else or just alone. I've also tried it a few times with alpha arbutin for spots, but to be honest I have to be more consistent with that. I do think Pycnogenol 5% may help with those issues. My hope is that the product helps the bag under my eye to the point that it's not a daily problem. Maybe not completely to the level of my other undereye area, but as close as possible. My only complaint could be that they only offer the small bottle. but that's a quibble. As I said 4-5 small drops are all I need for my face. I agree though it would be nice to use a Niod pump instead of a dropper.I highly recommend this product and will even update this if I see more results and improvement.

This actually works.
7 February 2023

I've bought 3 bottle so far and I have to say this is one of the few skin care products I've bought that has had a noticeable and positive impact on my skin. I started to get questions and compliments about my routine after starting to use this. I prefer put it on in the PM every other night alternating between a retinol. I find that it works best after a shower when your pores are open. It works so well that I never feel the need to moisturize afterwards but I will put squalene on after on dry days. It does leave a minor tint on your face so keep that in mind if you want to put it on in the mornings. Also the reddish hue stains very badly so make sure not to drip it on anything. I wish they made a larger size. But I would have to recommend this product.

Underrated

I love this product, been part of my daily routine for almost a month. I use it in combination with 100% Cold Pressed Borage Oil and the difference in my skin is amazing. It's brighter, smoother and feels so hydrated. Dry areas have disappeared and no breakouts which can happen when I start using something new in my skincare. I have a lot of issues with products being perfumed and having unnecessary ingredients added, they cause a riot on my face. It does have a strong smell but it doesn't bother me, it's a natural, earthy smell that doesn't last long and I'd rather have that than some fragrance that's going to irritate my skin. Because it's a very dark colour I tried to mix it in with my moisturiser but found it more effective when I added it direct to my skin. I don't go overboard with the amount, a couple of drops and have had no issue with discolouration on my skin, hands or pillows. I let it settle in for at least 5 mins before I add my borage oil on top and the combo is my holy grail. I don't hear many people talking about Pycnogenol so it's a shame it's so underrated.

Wish I'd Started Using Pychnogenol 5% Sooner!
21 July 2022

I bought Pychnogenol 5% about 2 weeks ago, and I'm already noting such a difference. I have oily skin, but it has a hard time retaining moisture. Not anymore! A few drops (three) is all I need, and it leaves my skin looking and feeling amazing. The moisture *lasts.* And more than that, my skin looks plump and glossy, and the few fine lines I have are definitely minimized. It's especially noticeable around the hollows of my eyes and the tops of my cheeks. My skin has *never* looked better. After using this on my face (I mix three drops with a small dollop of Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA), I'll use the remainder on my hands, and I can't even begin to describe what a difference I've noticed there as well. I wash my hands a lot, and they also get dry very easily, even with regular moisturizing. But they look and feel so soft after I started including Pychnogenol 5%. It sounds crazy, but they look younger. Honestly wish I could dunk my whole body in this product.I'll try to do a check-in after a few months, but I needed to say how much I love and appreciate this product so far. I have sensitive skin, but I tolerate it without any issue. I don't leave reviews very often, but I felt I needed to for this. Some people complain about a smell, but I honestly don't notice anything, at least not with only three drops mixed into Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. It absorbs well, too, so I haven't had any issues with staining. If I had to pick only one Ordinary product to use for the rest of my life, it would be Pychnogenol 5%, no question. Best addition to my routine, hands down. WELL worth it for me.
