I get it. This is a controversial Apple product. Compared to many monitors, it looks crazy expensive. Compare it to 5K monitors and it still looks expensive. Pricey but nothing else comes close
18 June 2023

I was a 5k retina iMac 2017 user before and was looking to update my setup to either MacBook or Mac mini with a monitor. I looked at several monitors as I really couldn’t justify the price tag of the Studio Display at first. But really this thing is in a class of its own and no other monitor comes close to matching the overall package here. First and foremost the screen is amazing and no other monitor comes close. I’m shocked that in 2023 that not many glossy monitors are available to begin with and none that are 5k. At a bare minimum I was looking for a glossy 4K screen and I didn’t want to buy any untested brand names that are through online only sales. I really wanted to see the screens in person in a store and Studio display was the only one. Additionally I’m really happy with the build quality, the speakers are great which allows me to de-clutter my desk now and the webcam is just a bonus. Webcam is not the best, but it’ll do the job if want to declutter. I’m hoping to use this display for the next 10 years and based on all that I was able to justify the price tag and worth the price in my opinion.I do have to use it with a Window 10 work laptop however. The only limitation there is that I cannot control screen brightness which is rather annoying. Hoping a new FW update eventually will fix that Otherwise everything works perfectly.I also use it with my M1 iPad Pro and it works perfectly. So much so that I haven’t even bough a new MacBook or Mini as per my original idea. I’m actually happy with my iPad Pro + Studio display setup for now.

Superb build and quality
3 July 2024

This is my main monitor driven by a Mac Mini M1. It partners with a reliable older Dell P2715Q (4K). I went for the nano screen which is excellent at rejecting reflections at the expense of slightly less (visual) sharpness over the plain screen. This is an optical illusion as the panel is still 5k.The sound is superb with several speakers and the noise cancelling beam microphones excellent for conferencing. The centre stage feature is useful too. It's beautiful to look at and built exceptionally well - all aluminium and glass. Inside it uses an iPads electronics to enable many features - hence the cost.It will last many years and still be working long after the cheaper competition has broken. Add on Apple Care and you'll have a superb investment.

Works Perfectly with Macs. Windows PC Use Frustrating
9 January 2023

Coming from a late 2015 5K iMac, I basically knew what to expect from the Apple Studio Display. It looks good, has excellent color accuracy for my photo and video needs, has excellent build quality, and with my Macbook Pro it is basically plug and play. Perfect operation for the past few weeks with the MBP. I also have a mid-range gaming PC with a GC Titan Ridge PCI-E Thunderbolt card installed (intended for use with this monitor), and it works with webcam, speakers, and microphone, but only from a fresh boot. The Apple Studio Display will only pick up the Windows PC from fresh boot or waking from sleep. When waking from sleep, the Apple Studio Display loses the peripheral functions, despite booting with the speakers and webcam. I am 90% an Apple user, so I can deal with these minor inconveniences, as the PC will only get occasional, recreational use. The inability of this monitor to function properly with any Thunderbolt input is extremely frustrating, and pretty typical of the Apple design paradigm. Apple needs to update the firmware on this thing to make it easier to use with any Thunderbolt / USB-C display compatible device.

[Rewarded Review] DON;T BUY AT BEST BUY
10 March 2024

Don't waste your money. I bought this in late February, it was great at first. Then the display stopped working after about 3 weeks. It wouldn't display an image you could tell it was on but It wouldn't display an image. Called best buy about it and was told not their problem as its been more then 14 days. Went to apple and they told me that it would cost me $1,200 to have the main board replaced. since it had visible damage inside that looked like it had been dropped. I never dropped it and when I reached out to best buy with apples findings they pretty must said oh well. Clearly best buy does not handle expensive equipment with care. so would steer clear of buying this from best buy, as if you have a similar issue you might as well have just set $1,500 on fire.

[Rewarded Review] Great monitor, poor webcam and permanent power cab
16 February 2024

After a series of monitors that just didn’t work well with my Mac and iPad, finally bit the bullet and bought this. Voila, All my issues resolved. Devices charge properly, connect through one cable, enough usbc ports, webcam built in, resolution native and amazing. Sound is surprisingly good. Brightness and clarity very good. One gripe I have is the webcam. Expected this to be much better. Big let down relative to the steep price. Secondly, power cord not removable. May or may not be long enough for your setup. Would be so much better to have a standard plug that you could replace with longer or shorter cable for clean setup.

[Rewarded Review] Pricey, but quality display that will last YEARS

I've specifically targeted and purchased monitors that meet the specs I need for editing, and I CANNOT tell you exactly how many monitors I've gone through over even over the last 5 years, but it's maybe close to 2 per year. I've purchased the 28" & 32" versions of Sony's 4K monitors from Best Buy as well -- attempted to calibrate them, but the color just would not stick... Anyway, my birthday was the following day & Best Buy had one in stock -- so I bit the bullet and made this purchase.I had slight buyer's remorse for the first week, but it quickly faded. The display fits perfectly next to my iMac and seriously ties the aesthetic together in my office compared to having a monitor of a different brand, primarily being housed in black plastic, inconvenient controls, unmatching color profiles, having to manually adjust the monitor settings separately, etc...If you decide to get one, you'll probably laugh at the ginormous, clever yet simple, and protective packaging that this thing comes in. But I think that you'll love the quality and aesthetic of this thing. It was weirdly relieving having a monitor where I'm able to control the monitor settings via my Macs -- and more especially, having matching color profiles where both my iMac (or even my MacBook Pro M1Pro) and Studio Display have 100% matching colors on screen which speeds up my workflows. Not sure why people are complaining about the camera (I suppose it could be better this day in age, but image quality is great with the lighting I have in my office, and with Apple's Center Stage - people surprisingly trip out and give positive comments while I'm in Zoom meetings. Sound quality is fantastic and pairs very well with the homepods in the room. I ended up giving away the iMac to someone who needed a computer for college, so I now use the display solely with my MacBook Pro -- and having the USB-C/Thunderbolt4 ports comes in clutch by having the display also be a hub. Oh -- need I say that you literally just need the one Thunderbolt cable connected to the MacBook to connect the display, power the MacBook, as well as having access to whatever USB-C peripherals (I have 3 SSDs connected) you want connected. Almost forgot -- controllable Night Shift mode and even screen brightness via your Mac/keyboard -- YUUUSSSSSS!!!This display is NOT for everyone and is obviously not a necessity. However, it's a beautiful monitor that you can tell will last for well over 5+ years of monitor swapping -- so in that sense, it is worth the investment, at least for me.Lastly, if you're going to drop this amount of money on this display, just get some reassurance and get Apple Care. I purchased the $50 annual plan since it'll last until you decide to cancel it and is worth having for something like this.

[Rewarded Review] Screen is awesome but the build quality OK
14 November 2024

I bought this to replace my LG 27” 5K Mac monitor as the LG started to make some annoying squeaking sounds and would wobble back and fourth if the desk moved. My 27” iMac on the same desk did not do that. I thought this would be the monitor to go with and I was wrong. The display is stunning. Bright, accurate, and matched the iMac display. With the Studio Display next to the iMac I noticed that the monitor looked a little off. It was sitting a little lower on the left side. I checked to see if it could rotate a little like the LG but it could not. I then brought out the level and the iMac was perfectly flat while the Studio monitor was showing that the left was a little lower.
