The Karman is a fantastic home office chair. The key features that stand out for me are (1) super comfortable/ ergonomic, (2) compact (so it doesn’t dominate my tiny office space), and (3) adjustability and size of armrests (they do the job without getting in the way). I have the red/blue weave and the color changing feature is just super cool. I am 5’4” tall and the chair fits me well with no issues. The flexible frame is very comfortable and it provides support for me throughout my long work days (I mostly work from home).

Lovely chair conforms to movement really well and not too rigid if you wanted to sit with one foot tucked underneath you, which is a great thing since I'm using this chair as my primary work chair. So sitting in it for 8-9 hours a day you would want to be able to shift your sitting position ever so often.Would've liked a headrest option or add on, but that is minor.I guess now we just wait and see how long it will last.

I have been working from home since 2020 and was using a hand-me-down office chair a much taller former colleague gave me. Eventually, the faux or cheap leather on the chair started peeling off and I realized I was sort of perched on the edge of the chair anyway, so I started looking for something of better quality and that better fit me (I'm 5'2").After reading some articles that pointed out you spend about a third of your life in an office chair, I sort of reconciled the idea that I would have to spend around $1K on a chair. I looked at many of the usual suspects, Steelcase Leap II and Gesture and the Herman Miller Aeron. If I'd ever had a Steelcase chair before, I wasn't aware of it, though I knew I'd had Aerons at past jobs. I liked the mesh aspect of the ... If I'd ever had a Steelcase chair before, I wasn't aware of it, though I knew I'd had Aerons at past jobs. I liked the mesh aspect of the Aeron, but I also remembered them being sort of bulky and heavy.Somewhere along the way, I learned of the Steelcase Karmen. It's a newer chair so there wasn't as much info about it on the web and there wasn't really a used market for the chair, so it felt like a little bit of a gamble dropping a grand on it. But I figured I'd take the two-week trial period to feel it out and I really liked the idea that it was much lighter than the Aeron. I was also able to pick it up during the Labor Day sale and combine that with an AMEX offer, which helped bring the pretax price a little closer to that of a used Leap II from one of the major suppliers of refurbished chairs.I don't live anywhere near a Steelcase showroom, so I wasn't able to try out a chair beforehand, and I had no idea if I needed the added lumbar support. But given that there didn't seem to be a way to purchase the lumbar support after the fact, I ordered one with the chair. So far, I've just sort of left that alone on the chair and it feels fine. I did get the four-way arms and I like those a lot. I went for the most basic fabric in the most basic color (black) because it felt the most flexible. I'm a stickler for things that are easy to clean, and the mesh fits the bill there. You can basically just take a wipe to the chair and it will take care of it. No need to deal with the tough-to-clean fabric of a more traditional office chair.Despite the fact, that I'm probably on the short side for the chair (5'2"), it fits me comfortably. I can actually sit back in this one and have my feet on the ground, so no more perching on the edge for me. It's really light and easy to move. The aesthetic is fairly neutral, so it goes with just about everything and the quality is top-notch. I'm looking forward to having this chair for a long time and I would recommend it to others.

Intermix Opaque Peacock/Seagull (light green) owner. Fantastic chair for work. It’s well-built, aesthetically pleasing, and largely composed of quality materials, except for the additional fabric sewed into the mesh. The bright green/blue/white fabric easily shows an imprint of where you sit and it sticks to your clothing (I’m not sure the softness of the Opaque is worth it tbh. I wanted an intermix chair, but there was a 4 month wait period). So if you go with a light Opaque, you’ll be washing the chair once a week unless you’re fine seeing an imprint. Coming from a light mineral silver Herman Miller Aeron, this was never an issue. Maybe just get the intermix or a darker colour. Oddly the back rest doesn’t leave an imprint, just the seat. Coming from a light mineral silver Herman Miller Aeron, this was never an issue. Maybe just get the intermix or a darker colour. Oddly the back rest doesn’t leave an imprint, just the seat. Regarding lumbar support, it can be tough to find the right spot to reinforce your back, so if you’re on the fence about getting the extra lumbar support, maybe skip that feature as the chair is already quite supportive. The seat itself is on the firm side. I got used to it after a week but for those who want a "pillowy soft" bottom, this chair isn’t for you. Arm rests are good, but I find myself only using 3/4s because they don’t move fwd quite enough. Some people want them to locked in pre-defined positions (i.e. gaming chair), but I think the infinite adjustability of the armrests is rock solid - it fits your needs. The tilt/height adjustment is super simple. No instructions needed - just sit, adjust, and enjoy. Overall, this is an excellent chair despite the fabric issue and it supports me for a 10 hour work day. We’ll see how it holds up over time, but my first Steelcase chair won’t be my last!
After reading multiple reviews, I chose to buy the Karman. It arrived early and the FedEx delivery person went above and beyond to place the giant box in my garage. Loved that it was all put together and was light enough to easily carry upstairs. Instructions to adjust arms and movement were helpful, but really, the adjustments are pretty intuitive. Have been using daily for about 6 weeks and I am so very happy. Am telling everyone about my wonderful new chair!
This is one of those purchases that feels not-so-great at first given the cost, but within days feels better than great. I deliberated over many brands and products, and I’m 100% satisfied with my decision to go with the Steelcase Karman. The attention to detail is obvious, from the multiple planes of rotation for the armrests to the four levels of give for the chair’s back. And to top it off, it’s extremely breathable. If you’re moving on from a leather chair, you’ll notice the difference immediately. Definitely recommend.
I think the chair is beautiful, but was truly underwhelmed with the lower back support. If I slouch at all in this chair, it becomes extremely uncomfortable on the bottom cushion. To be honest, I am left feeling as though I spent too much on a chair that doesn't live up to the standards. With more and more high quality office chairs coming out, I do not know how the Karman will truly compare in the long run to these cheaper alternatives.
Chair looks great but is too small. I'm 6'2, 190 for reference. Seat is too stiff and uncomfortable. I was expecting much better after sitting on both cheaper and more expensive mesh chairs for years. The frame digs in to your upper middle back if you lean back far enough. Arms don't lock so they move constantly. Recline adjustments are very limiting. Very disappointed after reputable reviews online were pretty positive. Ended up returning the chair. This would be more reasonable at half the cost.
Seat does not have a tilt function and is very firm to sit on. Back brace only has 4 positions and does not have a tension setting. Arms only have a lock for up and down. The slide function on the arms can be annoying since they dont lock, if you use them to readjust sitting position or slightly push off they end up moving. The mesh on the back brace is comfortable and allows a lot of airflow. The shape of the back also fits me very well.
